Thanks much for taking the time to reply. My Saturn MD runs until 2014 - so I'm confused by the statement that I'm going through Dasa change - Will my Mercury Dasa be any better than my Saturn Dasa - JHora shows that Mercury's Kashtaphala is more than Saturn's and my Mercury is in Gandanta. Please shed some clarity to my confusions.

Can say a quite afflicted chart in terms of marital happiness and relationships. Here are my observation on your chart first:
1. You are born on Sukla Saptami tithi, lorded by Saturn. Saturn is placed in dusthana. Tithi lord placed in dusthana indicates sufferings in relationships, and in 6th house it indicates separation too. Saturn is with Moon and is not aspected by any benefic giving rise to Parivrajya yoga, though it will not be a full Parivrajya yoga as it not in kendra but in dusthana. So this yoga will not give name and fame through Parivrajya yoga but it will make you lose the fortunes and get detached with materialistic happiness.
2. Both the jala tattva planets are either with Saturn or under the aspect of Rahu (both Saturn and Rahu are Vayu tattva planets). From Lalitha Upakhyanam, we learn that Vayu has a way of drying up jala, thus leading to absence of physical desires or incapacity to fulfill those desires. I am quite sure that this is one of the main reason to spoil the marital relationship. I will suggest you to work on this.
3. More to say, your 7th lord and Venus has 2/12 relationship. This indicates causing a complete mismatch in circumstances between you and your partner. Also Mars and Rahu both are aspecting Venus indicating that both of you will have a wrong attitude/phobia, which causes fear of rejection, anger etc. Venus is with Ketu and Ketu has a tendency to weaken Rajas tattva planets. Therefore, both the most benefic planets Venus and Jupiter are weak in your chart as Jupiter is in Marana Karaka Sthana.
4. UL has Jupiter in it. Normally having Jupiter in UL is very good as it will give a very spiritual and knowledgeable partner. But in this case, Jupiter is in marana karaka sthana and is terribly afflicted with the aspect of Rahu and Saturn. Jupiter being in curse in a female's chart is very bad for marital bliss as Jupiter is the karaka for marriage in a female chart.
5. Now badhakesha Ketu is aspected by Mars and Rahu, indicating wrath of the deity. As Mars is aspecting badhakesha, hence disputes/bad management of worship/image in past births is the reason for this wrath. Also Mars is associated with badhakesha indicating Preta Badhaka too.
6. A9 conjoined with Rahu in badhaka house indicated early demise of your father too.

Hello Rajatji.

One question I had here was whether you are considering the balance of the vayu, jala etc elements in the person as a stand-alone entity, or specifically for the 7th house? With regard to the 7th house, it is in vayu [ again!], but has agni grah Kuja in it. Is this to be considered only when considering 7th?

Here are my observations on your husband's chart:
1. Rahu, Mars and Ketu are in kendra. Three or more benefics in kendra give rise to Sarpa yoga. As no benefic is aspecting is involved in this Sarpa yoga, its bit difficult to be broken. Still i will suggest him to have faith in God and chant "Aastikam Munirajam Namo Namah" and "Om namo bhagavate balabhadraya".
2. UL lord is Venus and is under terrible affliction of malefic Rahu and Saturn. This indicates problems with the partner in marital life. 2nd from UL has Jupiter. Hence i can say that this marriage will not break and it will continue. Though separation might be there for some period.
3. 7th lord and Venus have 6/8 relationship which is quite inauspicious and causes complete mismatch of circumstances between both of you.
4. Badhakesha Mars is in Lagna conjoined with Rahu. Its wrath of deity. This indicates that an idol of Camundi/Bhadrakali has been mutilated. Since Rahu is associated, its dirt which have made the idol impure. I will suggest to install a fresh idol of Camundi/Bhadrakali in a temple.
5. Rahu is associated with Badhakesha in Lagna and neither Jupiter nor Sun conjoin badhakesha, hence the inferior serpents are causing problems. But Rahu is aspecting Sun, hence i can say serpents are beneficial and intent good in long term. I will suggest to sprinkle milk (Tarpana) over the abode of serpents or over an image of the Snake God (Nagaraja/Vasuki) in a temple. Also offer small eggs of gold or silver to any shivlinga on Jyestha Krsna Tritiya every year, which is his Janma tithi too.
6. Atmakaraka Moon is in gandanta. This is very inauspicious and indicates that soul is not clear about the goal of the birth. I will suggest to chant Ista Devata Mantra. For Ista Devata Mantra, please contact your Diksha Guru. I refrain giving Ista Devata Mantra.
7. Saturn, Venus and Ketu all are conjoined in Swamsa. What a great Tapasavi yoga it is!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will suggest to discuss this with his Diksha guru. Its a rajayoga. Make it activated.

I decided to match your horoscopes because of your statement ,

The reason I'm writing this today is after much efforts to make my marriage work for 12 years, I feel defeated and lost my hope that I can make it work anymore. We have brought nothing but pain to each other in this union (my in-laws checked for horoscope compatilibity and said they matched, my mom refused to check as she didn't believe in it - can't blame her after she lost her husband to cancer after 10 years of marriage which was fixed after a horoscope match).

I used the traditional method which is used in Kerala to match the charts . And it does indeed match . But like I have said before on this forum, it is absolutely necessary that both parties match the charts . If you look at your husbands chart you will find every malefic in the house hammering the 7th house . The fact that the marriage lasted for so long is because the boys astrologer saw the damage in the boys chart and did what he could best . Had it not been you, He would have got seperated / Divorced a long while back . His navamsha is a nightmare to say the least . We dont have the right time , but I believe his navamsha lagna to be Kumbha . Even if its Meena there is nothing much to write home about . The boys parents were smart , chart matching ensured that the marriage lasted for 10-11 years at least . .

Now had your side of the family showed his horoscope to a astrologer , I can only speculate that he would have looked out for your interest and might have rejected the proposal . We shall never know . .

In your horoscope , Shani and Moon are together in Ardra This causes a Shani kranti . The moon is completely in control of Shani . I honestly feel that there is good compatibility and synastry between the two of you . But like Rajat ji explained beautifully , Shani induces detachment to the mind . Some times you say to your self " What the **** am I doing in this marriage . Marriage is not for me " The next day you say "@#$% it , this is what I want , let me try and make this marriage work ". This push pull situation combined with your husbands sheer disintrest in meeting you half way has made a mess of every thing .

Look at what Rajat ji has said ,

The excellent synastry , and good matching score will ensure that seperation if at all attempted will be a extremely painful affair . Trust me , you will want him back in no time . I can stake my reputation on this . there is a song written by Craig David titled " You dont miss the water till the well run's dry " That is a apt line in your case . I suggest that you give this same relationship one more chance . Start with a new clean slate . Swallow your demons ( Easier said than done .... I know ) and forge ahead . Astrolearner ji , get this idea out that you are the reason he is sick, or that the marriage is the cause for his sick ness . One simple dictum , "The lagna lord in association with the 6th and the 8th lord gives rise to chronic illness" . To make matters worse ... in your husbands case , the lagna lord is with his arc enemy the Sun who is the 8th lord . He has to fall sick . You are not responsible that is his fate. You cannot claim credit for it . Let me make that clear .

It definitely puts my mind to rest in that context - Also you and Rajatji have said that separation is not in the charts - so I can get back to thinking (again) as to how to make this work I've been reading "Greatness of Saturn" for the past 6 months or so after your recommendation elsewhere in this forum. Now that I'm 36, I'm waiting for Saturnji to be satisfied with the lessons he has taught me
