Dear Astroboy,

I just read your posts now. Riveting as usual. Its fantastic that you are taking the time and energy to share your knowledge with us on this forum again.

I have a few questions. If the horoscopes match well but you are not really attracted to the guy, the chemistry isn't great but he is a nice enough and adores you, is it wise to ignore the attraction factor on the basis of the matching horoscopes? Is it possible to tell how much attraction potential there is between a couple by matching horoscopes?

Also how important is matching charts with relation to kuja dosha? If one person has kuja dosha the other person doesn’t, but otherwise the horoscopes match well is it ok to ignore kuja dosha?

Many Thanks

Selfish act is it not ??? Let us take the example of C, our stereo type Disc Jockey and A, our budding Lobotomist ( Refer previous post ). There was no chemistry between the two, ( As per her ) and yet she used him just because he was nice enough and adored her . Now tell me . Is that Good Karma ?? Not according to me .

As far as gauging attraction potential goes, I will answer that at the end of this post . Let me list out the parameters used to match horoscopes first , We shall discuss that with a example .

DHV,
If you want to know what true love and bonding means then watch the Movie Apocalypto. Only one man can come up with such beautifully depicted violence . Mel Gibson himself . If there ever was a man I admire in my life, In the field of cinema, It is him . I love the way he shows blood and flesh in all it's glory . What can you expect when Kuja is in the 6th in his own house , with Shani and Rahu ( Debilitated ) and Kuja debilitated in the Navamsha ?? ( That was Mel Gibson's chart. He directed Apocalypto ) I just adore the man .

BTW,

My 5 favorite movies,

Passion of the christ
Apocalypto
Hannibal rising
hannibal
se7ven

Pirates of the Caribbean ( all time fav )

Best regards

Yoni Koota

Yoni is the Sanskrit word for female genitalia, the source of all life. Its counterpart is the lingam (as interpreted by some), the phallus.

Stars are allotted 'Yonis' of animals. Each star is having certain animal force associated with it.the Nakshatras in order possess the sexual organs and sexual habits of the following creatures

They are:

Aswini - Horse / Male
Bharani - Elephant / male
Kritika - Goat / female
Rohini - Snake / male
Mrigasira - Snake/ Female
Ardra - Dog / Male
Punarvasu - Cat / female
Pushya - Goat / goat
Aslesha - Cat / male
Magha - Rat / male
Poorvaphalguni - Rat / female
Uttaraphalguni - Bull / male
Hasta - Buffalo / female
Chitra - Tiger / male
Swati - Buffalo / male
Visakha - Tiger / female
Anuradha - Deer/ Female
Jyehsta - Deer / Male
Moola - Dog / female
Poorvashadha - Monkey / male
Uttarashadha - Mongoose / female
Sravana - Monkey / female
Dhanshita - Lion / female
Satabisha - Horse / female
Poorvabhadrapada - Lion / male
Uttarabhadrapada - Cow / female
Revati - Elephant / female

Yonis of bride and bridegroom should not be inimical to each other. 4 points are awarded if the yonis are the same, 3 if they are friendly, 2 if they are neutral, 1 if they are inimical and no points if the yonis are highly inimical. Cow and tiger, elephant and lion, horse and buffalo, dog and deer, rat and cat, goat and monkey, snake and mongoose are declared enemies to each other.

Let me make this easier,

natural enemies.

1. Cat (Ashlesha and Punarvasu) and Rat (Magha and Purva Phalguni)
2. Cow (Uttara Phalguni and Uttra Bhadrapada) and Tiger( Vishakha and Chitra)
3. Serpent (Rohini and Mrigshira) and Mongoose( Uttara Ashadha)
4. Horse ( Ashwini and Shatabhisha) and Buffalo (Swati and Hasta)
6. Dog (Mula and Ardra) and Hare (Jyeshtha and Anuradha)
6. Monkey (Purva Ashadha and Shravani) and Sheep (Pushya and Kritika)

A point to Note, Mongoose (whose birthstar is Uttara Ashadha) has no ideal sexual partner. Such person has to compromise on his sexual happiness

(In some regions in the South, especially in the State of Kerala, the sex (male or female) of the yonis are given more importance than the relationship between the animals. However, in the Guna Milan system selected here, this factor is ignored.)

There fore, Yoni Koota shows sexual and biological compatibility , Mutual joy , Mutual sexual attraction and love .

Some points to note,

This classification is mainly used to assess the sexual compatibility . Common sense suggests that a Rat would not be happy married to a cat or a deer to a lion or tiger. Some one born with the Moon in say Bharani obviously will not literally possess the sexual organ of a Elephant but should he chose to marry a Rat it may seem that way.

on a cautionary note, though Yoni is often mistakenly taken as a measure of size , it actually evaluates the more fundermental nature and degree of satisfaction and bonding one gets from a sexual contact. Good Yoni compatibility suggests that the couple will be aligned for sexual congress even if challenges occur in that process at times . Two horoscopes with a misaligned Yoni Koota may imply that , all though the partners enjoy "good sex" , the satisfaction from the act will be found lacking .

Please note once again, A man born in say Ashwini Nakshatra need not necessarily possess the equipment of a horse and the others need not think that the man is like Lexington steele .( His yoni is of a Goat .) But if this Ashwini Nakshatra man were to end up in the sack with a Poorvaphalguni woman, she might end being overwhelmed mentally and end up feeling that she has indeed been satiated by a horse .

A major point to note

As per Muhurtha Chintamani

The similarities and adjustability the mental habits and attitudes, sexual joy, and mutal attraction with sex is known from this Koota . Muhurtha Chintamani has also Included Abhijit Nakshatra and the number of Nakshatras to be counted are 28 instead of the normal 27 . Abhijit has been given the yoni of a Mangoose

Astroboy,

Excellent exposition as usual. The Moon denotes the thinking mind and the yoni kuta from the nakshatra of the moon would certainly point towards ones attitude or temperament towards intimacy. But ones true physical or sexual nature is often beyond the grasp or control of the thinking mind. I think the real physical nature and hence compatibility should be assessed from the nakshatra of the lagna. After all it is the tanur bhava, the body and the body often reacts without any thinking. What say you?

Graha Maitri Koota

Relationship between the lords of the Rasis is analysed in Graha Maitri Koota. Relationships between planets are graded as Friend, Neutral and Enemy. ( No coumpound and temporary friendship's to be considered. Only Natural friendships to be considered )If Lords of both the bride and the bridegroom are the same or friendly to each other a maximum of five points are given. No points are given if they are inimical to each other. 1 to 4 points are appropriately
awarded for other combinations of relationships.

This is a very important Koota as it indicates the psychological factors of compatibility between the couple.

Good day to you Swamy Cool Ji ,

I agree completely . Yes you are right . It would certainly pay rich dividends to match a horoscope from the Lagna ( Too ) . As far as yoni goes, Like I said, its nothing to do with size , Its got to do with temperment and the satisfaction one gets after sex or even during sex , and that is recorded in the mind at the end of the day . So matching Yoni from the moon is also valid . But I also agree that we might be able to focus better if we use the lagna as a matching point . I do have softwares that can assess the horoscope from not only the lagna but also from all the other planets . But I have not used it yet because tradition does not allow us to make such drastic changes in methods. However I still use the Papasmya to assess the relative positions of Mars , saturn , Sun , Rahu and ketu from the lagna, chandra and shukra, to get a fair idea of the synastry . I also use synastry as another method to assess compatibility .

Another point I want to make , There are 3 main considerations for matching charts . the first consideration is to assess the strength and the malefic contents of the 7th and the 8th house along with the 2nd and the 4th house, Then assess the Longevity, the mental health of both partners, and finally Factors indicating if there is more than one marriage.

The second is off course the examination of the Koota and the Pourtham agreements

Then finally the synastry where the relative placements between the girls planets and the boys planets should be checked .

It is another matter that by the time we assess all the 3 considerations, the probability of the charts matching will be reduced to 2 percent . :)

On a lighter note, instead of banging our heads with all this , I feel this is a better option : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpYfGm2r ... re=related :D

Gana Koota

The stars are divided into three groups namely Deva, Manushya (Nara) and Asura (Rakshasa). There are diverse opinions on the acceptable combinations of Ganas. It is accepted by all that ideally, A Deva girl can marry a Deva boy and a Manushya girl can marry a Deva or Manushya boy, and an Asura girl can marry an Asura girl. In Tamil Nadu regions many astrologers accept a combination of Deva girl and Manushya boy as "Madhyama" or average combination. In Kerala, many astrologers consider Manushya girl and Asura boy as "Madhyama". The soft ware I use has accepted the recommendations of "Muhurtha Chintamani" with minor modfications and settled on the following chart

for awarding points
Girl / Boy Points

Deva / Deva 6
Manushya 5
Asura 1

Manushya / Deva 5
Manushya 6
Asura 1

Asura / Deva 0
Manushaya 0
Asura 6

Gana Koota is believed to have an important bearing on the compatibility of temperament and character of the couple. Gana evaluates a couples general Sukha by classifing them into 3 catogories as stated above . A sort of natural Rappot exists between people from the same Gana who can adept to one and another more readily that people of different Ganas . Just as people from different cultural backgrounds and ethnic groups are not always able to build bridges into each other's worlds , people with different Gansa often have a challenging time when they marry . Note that these classifications measure compatibility only , Not innate character .

Bhakoota

Bhakoota (Rasi Koota) is judged by the mutual position of the moon signs of the girl and boy. According to "Muhurtha Chintamani", mutual position of Janma Rasis in 6/8, 5/9 or 2/12 is considered malefic and no points are given. Otherwise, full 7 points are awarded.

There are considerable differences of opinion on this topic. Some astrologers consider that if boy's rasi is farther than six from the girls Rasi, malefic effects are nullified. Also, if the Lords of the Rasis are the same or friendly to each other, the malefic effects are cancelled.

Since a weighted point system is followed and many compensating factors get their own points, a strict approach to 'Bhakoota' is used by me without taking into consideration any redeming factors, as per Muhurtha Chintamani .

According to Muhurtha Chintamani, if the moon's of the boy and the girl are in a mutual 6th and the 8th house its is a giver of death ( of the relationship / not partner's life necessarily ) if it is in the 2nd and the 12th it will cause poverty and if is in the 5th and the 9th house it will cause loss of progeny . The rest are considered auspicious

According to "Jyoti Prakasha" if the janma rashi of the bride is in the 5th house from that of the bridgroom it will be inauspicious but it will auspicious if it is in the 9th house

Note ,
Though Bhakoota deals with only the moon's placements , Synastry deals with the four cornerstones and also the rest of the planets placement in relation to the boys chart . I personally follow the Kerala system of matching horoscopes along with the synastry and and pay less attention to the Guna milan system .

Before I start of with the 8th Koota, I would like to turn to Ayurvedic Psychology and the natures of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, the three Doshas. These are the forces that influence personality by influencing Physiology. when two members of a couple belong to the same category of dosha there is a greater tendency to re- enforce one another's limitations ( Dosha = Mistakes, Faults )

Diversity of dosha is more likely to promote the kind of diverse behaviour that will encourage these sorts of limitations to be minimised .

As long as Vata pitta and kapha remain in balance with one another physical and mental health is likely to be good . When these go out of balance the system is likely to lose it's own balance.

For the record the dosha natures of the graha's are

Sun and Mars - Pitta
Ketu - Pitta
Guru - Kapha
Shani - vata
Rahu - Vata
Chandra and shukra - both Kapha and Vata Grahas
Budha - Can be any of the 3 doshas or a mixture of all 3

Traits of a Predominent Vata type

vata individuals are easily excited. Indeed, they are alert and quick to act without much thinking. They may give a wrong answer but with great confidence. They have good imagination and enjoy daydreaming. Vata individuals are loving people but may love someone out of fear or loneliness. Fears of darkness, heights and enclosed spaces are not uncommon. Because of a tendency to change, vata people may often move furniture or residence to keep from feeling bored. They do not like sitting idle, and seek constant action. Due to their active nature, they make good money but spend it on trifles and have difficulty saving.

They show fear and anxiety, sensitive high strung react quickly to changes, they are exceptionally changable and resist regularity in their lives because their active minds demand constant stimulation. When their energy is high they can be the life of a party, only to burn out quickly. Some times they crave solitude but sometimes demand attention . They make friends easily but it is often shortlived . they have a good potential for detachment . They find it difficult to concentrate and often fail to complete the project they start .

Vata types recognise the need for self development but are rarely consistent with any program . They can become fanatic followers of a cult or far out doctorines, But even their fanatisicism is impermanent and they quickly and for little reason switch allegiance to a completely new set of ideas . Their faith often arises from insecurity .

Dear Reader,
The chart matching is certainly is not of any help in judging as to whether the couple has a peaceful married life, If you are interested in knowing why it is so , you can have all details in my BOOK , ' Your Stars and Married life, A Panoram' published by Sagar Publications 72, Ved Mnasion. Dear Dahiya,
that's an interesting comment.
I requested you to elaborate a bit on another thread also.

I see your point.....The problem with the chart-matching concept is that it is unverifiable:

1) Those who did not match the chart and whose marriage failed.......how to verify their marriage would have succeeded if the chart was matched :(

2) Those who did not match the chart and their marriage succeeded.....what's the need to verify the chart?

3) Those who matched the chart and yet their marriage failed..what to say about them :o

and finally chart matching is anti-thesis to the concept of "some part of life is pre-destined"...and who you get maried to is defnitely the predestined part...that's why marriages are made in heaven.

That is why it would be interesting to hear your view in this a bit more in detail.

Dear Astroboy

I asked ,
"If the horoscopes match well but you are not really attracted to the guy, the chemistry isn't great but he is a nice enough and adores you, is it wise to ignore the attraction factor on the basis of the matching horoscopes? "

to which you replied
"Selfish act is it not ??? Let us take the example of C, our stereo type Disc Jockey and A, our budding Lobotomist ( Refer previous post ). There was no chemistry between the two, ( As per her ) and yet she used him just because he was nice enough and adored her . Now tell me . Is that Good Karma ?? Not according to me"

You are right, it selfish. But it’s hard when the type of men you are attracted to are charmers that are not exactly “marriage material” and not the committing type. There are times when you think well maybe chemistry is over-rated and I should just settle for this “nice boy” my parents approve of whose horoscope apparently matches mines. Yet at the back of your mind you know something is missing. He doesn't exactly rock your world.

As of yet I haven’t been able to go through with it. Once you have been with someone you are really attracted to, anything less than that is pale by comparison. Maybe it has something to do with my strong Kuja dosha (mars is in the 8th house aspecting Saturn lord of my 7th house) that draws me towards the wrong kind of men. I have told this guy to see other people but no matter what I do or say he waits for me. However I am unable to commit to him.

You are going a great job with this thread. I will wait until you finish your posts on matching charts and read what you have to say first before I ask you any more questions.

And I will watch Apocalypto since you recommend it. The other films I have already seen. I agree, they are good, if not a little macabre. Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favourites too :) , along with "The Notebook" and "Pretty Women".

Best wishes

Pitta types,

Pitta people have excellent abilities for learning, understanding and concentrating. They are highly disciplined, can be excellent leaders and are blessed with wisdom. Pitta individuals never yield an inch from their principles, which sometimes leads them to fanaticism. They can be judgmental, critical and perfectionistic, and tend to become angry easily. They love noble professions and often make large amounts of money to spend on luxurious items. They like perfume and jewelry. Overall, the pitta constitution is endowed with moderate strength, much material knowledge, wealth and a medium span of life.

Pitta types are strong and forceful in their dealings they are dedicated to the practical side of life when permitted they are domineering , inherently couragious and believe in fair play , and in a good mood exude exuberance , but when angry can be cruel and hurtful. They make friends easily especially if they percieve that such friends will be of use to them . They are accutely intelligent and tend to be impatient with anyone with anyone whose intelligence is not equally acute. Their innate arrogance of cleverness can make them intolerant.

Pitta types are dedicated to their own self development, which sometimes become a sort of ego expansion. their opinions are strongly heald and can fall into fanaticism. They tend to stick to thier fanatic ideas if they calculate that such a course would benefit them . Cult leaders and their lieutenants are usually Pitta types.

Pitta people plan methodically and efficiently and enjoy implementing ideas dreamed up by more theoretical types . they love to engineer ideas into practical use and have little direct interest in the day to day details of running a project .

Pitta types usually remember easily and forget with difficulty. A slighted Pitta type will explode into a rage and will continue to smoulder long long after the fire is burned out .

Kapha Types,

Kapha people are blessed with a deep, stable faith, with love and compassion, and a calm, steady mind. They have good memory, a deep melodious voice and a monotonous pattern of speech. A kapha person makes and saves money. An unbalanced kapha suffers from greed, attachment, possessiveness, and laziness. All in all, the healthy kapha individual is endowed with excellent strength, knowledge, peace, love, and longevity, due to a strong constitution.

Kapha people tend to have diseases related to the water principle, such as the flu, sinus congestion, and other ailments involving excess mucus. Sluggishness, excess weight, diabetes, water retention, and headaches are also common. Kapha tends to get aggravated as the moon gets full and during the winter and early spring, when the weather is heavy, wet, cloudy, and cold.

Kapha types are Predominently quiet, steady, serious, sorts who enjoy pleasures of home and family . they have patience, fortitude, and humility. In excess this trait may engender passivity attachment possessiveness and greed . they have stable personalities they study each subject caustiously before committing themselves . once committed to a course of action they will see it through stubbornly . They make friends slowly and with deliberation but once established lasts for long .

Innate self satisfaction makes kapha types less motivated for self development . they do not make good fanatics. they are more compassionate than the others . they are more maternal because of the strong earth element . They often think with their emotions. They are renowned neither for theorizing nor engineering .

They need to be told more than once before a idea can sink in, But once they have learned it , Its for life . It takes a good deal to irritate a Kapha type , But once angered they never forget a slight . They enjoy somethings to the extent of digging themselves into a ruts . They always have money saved for that rainey day and can veer towards miserly ness . they sometimes indulge in emotional spending .

Why I explained the three types Doshas is for you people to understand the role of chemistry and the planets in the quality of a relationship. Nadis ( Channels ) are classified into 3 groups namely Adi nadi , anthya nadi Madhya nadi . These groups are also called Kapha Pitta and Vata nadies respectively .

The logic of Nadi Kuta is that the nakshatra of the females moon must belong to a different group if they have to have score any points .If the stars of the girl and boy belong
to different Nadis, full 8 points are given. If they belong to the same Nadi, no points are given. Note that this Koota gets 8 points , The highest points out of the 8 parameters. This is why I say that Chemistry between two couples must be in agreement for a successful relationship.

It is no suprise that Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston got 8 points in the nadi Koota. It is also a big suprise that Angelina and brad pitt get no points in the Nadi Koota . However Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie manage to score well with their Graha Mithri, Bakoota, and Gana kootas. Balancing the scales. It is no big suprise that they are yet to get married .

Conclusion,

If every relationship was Pre destined and was because of past runanubhandana, Then there would be no need to match the horoscopes because we would be sitting ducks to our "Dhridha karma " all we had to do was just be puppets at the hands of destiny and perform the role destined for us and later just drift towards our graves . But we all know that we have what is called as the "Free will" component . We perform new karmas and create new Runanubhandanas which might create pleasure or pain in this life or the next . No one can deny that Free will to create new karmas and runas exist . We do not know if our companion is a Runa from the past or not . No one can say for sure that the spouse of the present was indeed the spouse from the last life.

The "Free will " component allotted to us gives us a opportunity to create new Runanubhandana's in this life time . With whom we create new Runas, How we create them, for how long we create them is all left to our free will . Yes our "inherent nature" will be a driving force no doubt , But largly we have a fair amount of control on matters of relationship never the less. Matching Horoscopes let's us decide who we want to create a new Runaubhandana with . It allows us to chose a partner who can compliment each other by measuring compatibility . compability can highlight the strength and weaknesses of a relationship and highlight the areas where specific effort has to be put to make the relationship a fullfilling one .

while many astrologers swear by this system another school of thought maintains that the system does not "work". Such blanket denunciation is of course as inaccurate as any blanket testomonial to the invariable validity of any of jyotisha's principles . No principle of Jyotisha "works" for everyone all the time , but all its principles work for some people some of the time.

One reason why this system may not work at times is that they are traditionally measured exclusively from the Moon which is the desire body. Though in the past the Moon's position was paramount in Jyotish, it hase been superseded in Kali yuga by the Ascendent, from which we read the physical realities of a individual and their world. I feel that we have to match the horoscopes from both the Moon and the lagna . To draw a fine line , from shukra too . Though this goes against the very tradition of astrology there is no harm in trying out this method . Robert Svoboda and Hart De Fouw, both towering personalities in their own right, also subscribe to this policy .

I have tried this policy on some horoscopes and come to the conclusion that the seed of attraction , which is generally mostly Physical arises from the lagna's and their respective Nakshatras while the emotional and mental chemistry is tied to the moon. Desires can be seen from Shukra and if shukra are in a good position , It is my opinion that a marriage and a relationship can tide may a crisis which may come in the way .

Prince charles, Though married to what people considered to be one of the most elegant and beautiful woman in the world still had a secret fancy for Camilla whose face was the butt of many jokes. Nothing can explain why a man would be facinated with a woman whose face has been described as similar to that of a horse, while being married to a beautiful woman. Such questions can be answered only Via astrology . When assessed from the lagna, Camilla scores a high 28 compared to Diana's 19 . This could be one of the reasons why Charles had his eye on Camilla even when he was married to Diana.

Even if we don't go so far as to match a horoscope on the keeping lagna and shukra as a base, The porutham system which is Kerala and Tamilnadu based will suffice to get a good look at what can be expected out of a relationship.

Another point to note . It is a must to look at the 2nd, 4th, 7th, and the 8th house of both the girl and the boy before a conclusion can be drawn . I have seen cases where a couple having a good relationship and a high score in the Compatability test split up because of the Inherent weakness of the Girls 8th house and the boys 7th house . Like I said before,
" There are 3 main considerations for matching charts . the first consideration is to assess the strength and the malefic contents of the 7th and the 8th house along with the 2nd and the 4th house, Then assess the Longevity, the mental health of both partners, and finally Factors indicating if there is more than one marriage.
The second is off course the examination of the Koota and the Pourtham agreements
Then finally the synastry where the relative placements between the girls planets and the boys planets should be checked ."

Thanks and best regard's to all .

Deepak ji, A very informative post, must have taken a lot of hard work. As far as mutual attraction is concerned I have observed that mutual position of 1-7 axis between lagna, Moon and Sun also plays an important role. Many a times I have seen that Lagana of one is at 1-7 axis of her Moon and Sun of Her is at 1-7 axis of His Moon, and vice versa, and both are very strongly attracted to each other, and same way the relation of lagna, Moon and Sun[ 1-7 axis] regards anu

Astroboy,

Totally brilliant. But you left out Vedha, Mahendra and Stri Deergha. I'd really like to have your take on Vedha and Mahendra. :)
