MYTH OR FACT :
The 13th Nakshatra from the Moon is one of the best in the chart. It confers coronation.
It can give a lot of blessings in the chart, overcoming a lot of afflictions.
My Yogi Point which lies on my Ascendant, the Nakshatra Pushya, is also the 13th Nakshatra from the Moon.

MYTH OR FACT :
For any Nakshatra we already know there is the lord and there is the deity.
The deity play an important part in the understanding of the nature of the Nakshatra and the lord determine's the Nakshatra's fortune to a certain extent (the other fortune is again determined by the deity).
Now how about the birth of the deity found in the Nakshatra. Rahu for example gets born in Rohini (where sun becomes mighty and Moon owns (lords) it although Brahma is the deity).
And Jupiter gets born in Poorva Phalguni.
Well the Nakshatra where a planet is borned (including the Charya Planets of Rahu and Ketu), adds to the nature of the deity of the Nakshatra and the fortune of the lord of the Nakshatra.
So don't forget which planet is borned in which Nakshatra.
Anybody know the rest?

Please note JHora has calculated my Karana wrongly.
Being the 2nd half of Panchami (Tithi), my Karana is actually Baava and not Kaulavas.
Baava is credited with having a Brahmin personality.
Thanks.

MYTH OR FACT :
The pada where a certain planet gets maximum exaltation also needs our special attention in chart analysis. Planets placed in that pada get imbued with the nature of the planet concerned who has maximum exaltation. Here the effects does not affect the lord or the deity of the Nakshatra. It affects more on planets placed in that pada including the planet that gets maximum exaltation there.
1st pada of Pushya - Jupiter (my Ascendant is here)
2nd pada of Dhanista - Mars (my Moon is here)
3rd pada of Ashwini - Sun (just on the edge of the 3rd pada)
2nd pada of Krittika - Moon
2nd pada of Chitra - Mercury
4th pada of Revati - Venus
4th pada of Swathi - Saturn (just on the edge of the 4th pada)
Ketu gets exalted in Scorpio. The last pada of Vishaka ruled by the Sun should be Ketu's favourite place (note here we are talking about the lord of the Nakshatra CAUSING Ketu's favourite pada in Scorpio, the other way round the EFFECT of this pada of Vishaka on the Nakshatra's lord or deity does not come into picture, only affects planets (other than Ketu or Ketu itself) placed there).
Rahu gets exalted in Taurus. Rahu has an affinity with Rohini because the deity of Rohini is Brahma and BOTH Rahu and Brahma has something to do with creation. Which of the 4 padas has Rahu maximum affinity with? Should be the 2nd pada where Rahu gets Vargottam and gets doubly exalted.

One prominent astrologer in his webpage assign Rohini as Rahu's birthplace, because his theory was that Sun and Moon gets on well with Rahu (unlike the opinion of other astrologers) which is true actually.......earlier on we had a post which states that Sun+Rahu and Moon+Ketu IF NOT AFFLICTED, produces certain kind of great personalities......but then Moon has affinity with Rahu too since Moon is the general significator for all the Nakshatras.....in fact some would say Rahu is synonymous with the Moon and Mercury.
So Rohini being a place where where the lord is the Moon, so both Sun and Moon are well placed here. Rahu thus should also do well here in Rohini.
The person forgot about two things :
(1) Being well placed in a Nakshatra and being born in a Nakshatra are two different things.
(2) Rahu's reason of being well placed in Rohini has more to do with the deity Brahma, rather than its close affinity with the lights. In fact Rahu is enemy of the lights, unless certain beneficial conditions apply as was stated earlier.

MYTH OR FACT :
Back to retrogade of planets again.
We have talked about retrogade planets turning into its Vedhak planet, retrogade of natural benefics in a non-Dusthana and Dusthana, retrogade of natural malefics in a non-Dusthana and non-Dusthana, retrogade of a functional malefic, retrogade of a functional benefic, retrogade planets as being strong and retrogade ofplanets being well placed or not well placed in signs.
Few more concepts to add to your repertoire of Vedic knowledge :
(1). This is a weak point but can be taken into account. Sarvanth Chintamani has praised the retrogade of natural benefics while denigrating the retrogade of natural malefics. The effects can be clearly felt during the dashas of the planets concerned. For example, Venus retrogade gives the native much honour from the ruler. He gets vehicles fitted with excellent music systems, fine clothes and ornaments and ruling powers.
(2) Retrogade because it is as if in its previous sign, means the as placements in signs are concerned, the planet can get worse or better. Also note the direction towards maximum exaltation point may suddenly reverse and vice versa.
Retrogade planets may also intensify the goodness of a subha kartari yoga or the badness of a paap karatari yoga. (You can picture yourself, the two planets at the side now has one of them (the right hand side planet) breathing down on the native's neck on the house that is sandwiched between the two planets concerned).
(3) Retrogade planets may cause health issue. Even lagna lords in kendras when they go retrogade, cannot protect the native.
(4) For retrogade planets in Prasna and Tithi Pravesha (annual) charts, they cause further complications.

(5) Planets that are retrogade during transit often has an affinity with the same planet that is retrogade in the natal chart. Usually during the period of the transit retrogade, some decision is shelfed or the outcome is uncertain or a particular activity is re-done until the retrogade transit of the planet rights itself ie. turn direct again. And only then the event would reach its final logical conclusion.

MYTH OR FACT :
Nadi Astrology has its own own set of Nadi karakas, similar in respect to Naisargike Karakas by Parasara.
But the siginfications there are a slight difference.
4th to Ketu rules Sadhana
1st to Jupiter rules morality (this is weak because the house where Jupiter is placed is weak unlike Saturn which is why most people lack moral fibre)
7th to Mars rules spouse for a wife
3rd to Moon rules travel
5th to Saturn rules education or intuition connected to work etc.

MYTH OR FACT :
I have already mentioned the 13th Nakshatra from the Moon. That is based on the Special Tara concept.
Another classification based on Paresh Desai from his Guru tradition, is the Suryaat Nakshatra Bindu and the Chandra Nakshatra Bindu. The articles on these (there were actually 4, the other 2 being general introduction and examples) were published in the early editions of Saptarishis Magazine and I have introduced them to this forum when I first joined.
(At that time I was so confused between these two systems and the normal Tara which also comes with the Special Tara - the ones which most astrologers normally used).
Readers who are interested can read the articles from Paresh Desai. Not all the articles are extracted out by the way. You may to read the volume containing the article.
Here I give you those Nakshatras which I am involved by virtue of having planets placed there.
Suryaat Nakshatra Bindu
-----------------------------
4th Nakshatra from the Sun - Ketu
It stands for Prestige and Honour.
In my chart, my Moon is placed there.
Chandra Nakshatra Bindu
-----------------------------
27th Nakshatra from the Moon - Abhishek
It stands for Public Honour.
In my chart, my Saturn and Ketu are placed there.

MYTH OR FACT :
Earlier on we say that aspects by planets themselves play a more important role than aspects by signs (this include sign aspects where there is a planet tenated in the sign(s) aspecting each other).
Environment (sings) is important but more crucial is the will of the individual (planets).
But when we talk about dispositorships, then dispositorship by sign is important than dispositorship by Nakshatra (the latter again denoting individual effort) because the environment can make or break the individual effort. Disposiorship has connotations of control......so the planet controlling the nevironment (ruling the sign) has a trump card. Yet dispositorship by Nakshatra is important too when it comes to delineating specific issues like a planet disposited by another planet through Nakshatra has more affinity with that planet than with the planet who who disposits it by sign.
Vedic Astrology has certain nuances which only if one is experienced with the study of it, can one understand the underlying principles.

MYTH OR FACT :
Sometimes the concept of Maraka and enemy to the Significator is more powerful than the concept of Dusthana. Why?
Because Dusthana comes with some savings graces like Vipareet Raja Yoga and certain benefics do well in certain Dusthanas, and even Mars does well in the 6th and Saturn in the 8th if not afflicted and with good aspects from benefics.
The concept of Maraka and being enemy to the significator of the house can cause denial, although there may not be difficulties. If Dusthana adds in its effects, difficulties or hang-ups additionally would occur.
If a planet is Maraka to the houses it rules (the houses where it is natural ruler0 from where it is placed in a chart, and if it is enemy to the significator to the house where it is placed at the same time, denial is the result for significations of the houses where it is the natural ruler.
Examples :
Venus in the 1st is enemy to the Sun. Venus is also placed in a house Maraka to the 7th where it is natural ruler. Denial of mate is the result. Venus being 12th to the 2nd house whee it is the natural ruler, gives the person some prosperity nevertheless.
Sun in the 11th although placed Maraka to the 5th where it is the natural ruler, but it is friendly to Jupiter, the significator of the 11th. Same with Sun in the 6th where Mars is the significator, even though the 6th is the Maraka to the 5th where Sun is the natural ruler. Sun does not do too badly in the 6th Dusthana from the Lagna though some health problems may arise.
Saturn in the 1st is also bad. It is maraka to the 12th where Saturn is the natural ruler and Saturn is also enemy to the Sun, the significator of the 1st. Saturn is also placed in a Dusthana position to the 8th, another house where it is the natural ruler. So Saturn placed here, the person has a personality which does not know how to ride with the waves (12th signifies that) causing personal tension. Chronic health problems may also arise, the 1st being 6th to the 8th.
Moon in the 10th is actually not so bad, because although placed in a Maraka, Mercury is friendly to the Moon. Same with Moon in the 5th where the Sun is friendly to him.

In the Saturn example above, some resistant to disease is developed, because of the concept of Vipareet Raja Yoga, since 1st is the 6th to the 8th.

MYTH OR FACT :
If you look carefully at the natal chart, the 2nd-8th axis and the 6th-12th axis are the only axes where the dusthanas occur (forget about the 3rd) and they are actually EVEN and NON-ANGULAR (unlike 4th-10th axis) houses. This means they are weak and their fate is determined by combing with an odd house.
That is why Philadeepika said that if a planet rules the a Dusthana and a non-Dusthana, and if the planet is placed in the non-Dusthana which it rules in its own sign, the rulership of the Dusthana is effectively annulled.
This reverses my earlier stand about the fact that if the above configuration exists, the Dusthana houses effect would still be felt but in a good way. Sometimes on reflection, it would reveal the folly of one's original turn of mind.

MYTH OR FACT :
The Air Houses as we mentioned are the 11th to a Dharma House and we have analysed last time what means.
But the Air Houses also is the Bhavat Bhavam of a Moksha and a Karma House. This means an Air Huse is important because it is a bridge between spirituality and materiality. Themselves they also show our progress in society at large.
Like the D-10, the D-3 (Traditional Parasara), D-7 and D-11 (B V Rama's version) have no higher octaves equivalent. They are important of the aforesaid mentioned factors in the previous paragraph. Normally it is better to have Mercury, Venus and Saturn as the trinal lords. Also the SAME set of lords (whether Jupiter or Venus camp) for all three charts, shows life would progress much smoother for the individual. In addition,
D3 shows the way we overcome obstacles to make the first move (3rd is the 8th of the 8th), spirituality issues, how we take steps to expand our earnings (2nd of the 2nd) and our vocation affinity through learning being 6th to the 10th (unlike the Navamsa we shows our talents and abilities). The 5th and 9th lords of D3 shows the positive aspects of all the aforesaid mentioned attributes. Preferably they should have contact with the 5th and 9th lords of the D7 as from D3, the next progression (future state) would be the D7.

D7 shows a mixture of our karma (10th of the 10th) and a mixture of our happiness and clarity of mind (4th of the 4th). In addition, it shows our action towards the world, how we keep our obstacles at bay while we engage in our social lives, our personality, business, how healthy we are (1st is the 7th of the 7th) and in general the manifestation of our balance of our behaviour in public (7th is the 6thof the 2nd).
The 5th and 9th lords in D7 show how we we deal our adversaries effectively while maintaining co-operation with them and how we garner support form others into action. In addition, they show the positive attributes of all the aforesaid mentioned attributes in the previous paragraph.
Preferably, they should have contacts with the 5th and 9th lords of D11, the next progression for the 7th house since 11th house is the 5th of the 7th house.
D11 shows whether we can maintain our gains and riches against all obstacles (11th is the 6th of the 6th) or against all unforseen natural forces (11th is the 12th of the 12th). It also shows freedom from diseases, bondages and how gains multiply manifoled eg. exchange between the 9th and the 11th in the D-11.
The 5th and 9th lords should have contact with the 5th and 9th lords of the D3, to show how we can evolve our niche and branch to our niches using the gains that we already have.
To be continued.................

Take the 5th house as the Ascendant for the D3, D7 and D9 for more revealing and spectacular results.
In my Progressed D3 of Scorpio Ascendant, Moon and Mercury in Virgo in the 11th house and Mercury being the final dispositor of the whole chart. Moon is my 9th lord in D1 and Mecury conjuncting it, is the 5th lord in D7. There is thus a progression from the D3 to the D7 since there is a link between the 9th lord in D3 with the 5th lord in D7.
In my Progressed D7 of Taurus Ascendant, there is an exchange between Mercury and Jupiter in the 11th and 2nd house respectively. Venus is also with Mercury and Mercury gets Neecha Bhanga. Mercury is my 5th lord. Venus in 11th and Jupiter in 2nd clears all doshas according to Nadi Astrology. Venus is the 9th lord in D11 (B V Raman version call Ekadasamsa). There is thus a link between the 5th lord in D7 with the 9th lord in D11. There is thus a progression from D7 to the D11.
In my Progressed D11 of Virgo Ascendant, there is a three-way exchange between 2nd, 5th and 9th Bhavas. Thus there is the maintenance of prosperity. Venus has a link with the Moon in the 5th house. Venus is the 9th lord in D11 and Moon is the 9th lord in D4. There is thus a progression from D11 back to D3.

MYTH OR FACT :
Now let's look at D5. Again there is no higher octave counterpart. D5 shows in a spectacular way how past life credits get you place in a good position.
Take the Progressed D5 with the 5th house as the Ascendant.
My Progressed D5 has a Virgo Ascendant. It is a functional benefic for a Virgo Ascendant and it goes to the 5h in Capricorn. Saturn disposits it and Saturn sits on the 7th with Venus. In turn, the dispositor of the 7th where Saturn sits, is Jupiter which goes to the 10th.
It shows past life credits spilling into the houses of authority, profession and the public.
