I too used to think that way and wore 2 Gomeds (one Ceylonese and one Orissan) in Jupiter Mahadasha on an astrologer's advice for a few years (I wrote in the beginning of this thread that I didn't get a proper astrological advice during Rahu Mahadasha). But I noticed that my minor Rahu periods still gave me the same effects of my colleagues back-stabbing me, wrong decisions, wrong kinds of people coming in my life etc.

Hence, one has to keep on checking the movement of associated planets and keep on wearing and taking off the gems accordingly. Since it's not always possible to keep on doing this exercise and one can make a mistake, I feel that unless one is a good astrologer, one should not wear especially the gems related to Rahu-Ketu and Saturn, even if these planets are benefic in the person's chart.

Having found this, I took off my Gomeds and have decided never to wear them. I feel it's better to recite Mantras and do charity than to wear gems for these 3 planets. I am reciting the relevant hymns now and I see that while Rahu sill tries to harm me, I manage to escape unscathed out of his mayajaal (trap).

I had one more question - You had mentioned that you got the Durga Honam done even when you were close to the end of your Ra MD. Did you do it personally or did you pay on any site to get it done?

I was thinking abt getting it done but I am not sure when I will be in India next or where to get it done. I am a bit skeptical to pay online for the pooja. Any thoughts?

I found a priest in India to to do it for me. I was in India, so I could do this.

I too don't trust online pujas. It's best not to go via them.

If you can get in touch with the Bengali or Mithila community in the US, most probably they can connect you with a priest in the US who can do it for you, since Durga Saptashati is very popular with them. Many Bengali and Maithil Brahmans know how to do it, even if they are not priests by profession.

Another option is to ask your family in India to get it done in your name.

I have been experiencing Rahu MD for the past 8 1/2 years , in this period there are lot of obstacles in my career, ups and down and family feuds and lot of travel. so as a short experiencing hard time.Rahu is in 12th position for me and my ascendant is Taurus and kethu in 6th position 12th house lord is in 9th position(Exalted Mars).

My question is I heard If the first part of Rahu MD is Bad, then the Second half) of Rahu MD will be better.Is It true?

Now iam working in a small company and i also joined as a sleeping partner in my friends company (abroad).

Interesting musings- though I haven't read all the posts but I thought, since I have some free time and also since I just passed through my Rahu Mahadasha, I may be eligible to share some experiences:
1) My birth details : 29th August 1974, 19:10 hours, Ambarnath (Maharashtra)
2) I had a road accident towards the end period of my Rahu Mahadasha on July 14th 2009 which I have recovered though the marks are still there on my right leg both ankles. Very very slight pain is still there at times.(This is for referring to the accuracy of my birth details for the keen astrologers).
3) I must say that my Rahu Mahadasha had been a topsy-turvy ride- extreme highs and lows. While my education had been brilliant ( as high as distinction in the 10th grade and ever since then first class till my MSC & then MBA from premium institutes in India and traveled abroad on scholarships and also my first job was abroad but always came back to India) but professional life has been unstable. I assess that when it came to dealing with people- that's when I was unstable. For example: what I achieved in my studies - it's only when I gave self-effort. But when it came to interacting and managing people like in an office environment, I didn't do well, unfortunately.
People call me proud and egoistic but I think of myself as sensitive and intelligent and I can very well see the negative in a person faster than the common man. I have never thought bad of any people. Yes, people have back stabbed me..more than often..and the best of 'few' friends..sometimes even my family and relatives.
4) I love my parents..my father is an intelligent man and so is my mother- a very wonderful woman but they too have sometimes left me when I needed them the most. Though I still love them. That's an extreme sad part.
5) I loved a girl back in my college- but she didn't. Left me hurt and wondering why not- I am good looking, intelligent, loving, understanding and could have made her feel secure and would have never betrayed her. I will never betray anyone...but people have.
6) I enjoyed good health in Rahu Mahadasha. Bright features actually and good communication skills.
7) Now that I am in Jupiter Mahadasha, things are getting worse..I lost my job in July end this year...and feeling rather sad. ISN'T IT STRANGE THAT MY ACCIDENT DATE AND TWO YEARS LATER MY JOB-LOSS DATE ARE SAME - 14TH JULY?? Don't know.

P.S.: I must add, I am not overtly religious Hindu- I respect traditions but don't follow them strictly. Though I am vegetarian (being a Bengali it's tough to be a veggie~!) and I pray every night before I hit bed! Though I wear a Gomed, Neelam and diamond since my parents insisted. I am not interested in yagyas and other pujas to get rid of 'kaal-sarps 'sade-sathi' & the likes. Whatever is written in the horoscope or destiny, will happen. And more than that, I (try to) believe in myself. All I know is that I am a good human being and that's all I care!

take off Gomed and Neelam (blue sapphire) - they will bring more trouble from Rahu and Saturn.

Emerald 4.5 carats set in gold will suit you the best. Even if you don' wear emerald, do take off Gomed and blue sapphire.

In this chart, Mercury is combust at 2 degrees from Sun in 3rd house and Mars is in 8th, not with Moon. Res of he chart is the same.

Jupiter is in transition zone at 29.04 degrees, which is not good.

Mars in 8h gives you a Mangala Dosha.

you are running Rahu Mahadasha and Rahu-Mercury at the moment. Combust Mercury will make his period troublesome. But your Lagna lord Venus is good.

Oh Saindhavi ji, I am sorry to miss telling you about the gems that I am wearing. I will take them off. I will try to wear an emerald. Do I take Neelam and Gomed off any day and anytime or are there any particular days and time for those?

I must tell you about 3 incidents why I decided to wear them after my parents insistence:
1) During the second half of 2001, my final-2nd year MBA exams, my father was not keeping well and was hospitalized. It was then I wore the Neelam. Then what happened, I don't know whether it was because of Neelam or otherwise - my father got well, I scored a first class in my MBA finals and got my US and UK Visa with scholarship and chose to go to US for further studies. While in US, I got my first job offer in Feb-March 2002 and went for that as I thought I had studied enough- or I would surely get spectacles and become bald!
2) I wore Gomed in 2009-2010 when I visited Calcutta as the astrologers there said this will help office colleagues stop troubling me and the back-stabbing will stop because of Rahu. But the cold currents at work continued really.
3) As I said, I also wear a diamond for my Venus, from early 2010 and it has given me good results so far with relationships but heartburns still continue- though less!
Do I continue wearing diamond?

+) May I please ask: I am confused - are gems worn for strong planets to enhance them or for weak planets to minimize their negative effects?

Your doing well may be related to Gochar or some other minor Dasha operating at that time. But in the long run, blue sapphire is likely to give trouble. I can't vouchsafe its benefic effect, because Saturn aspects your Sun.

Gomed is certainly harmful for you because your Rahu is malefic and Gomed is enhancing its power. For all you know, your Jupiter Mahadasha may be going badly because of Gomed and blue sapphire.

Gems should be worn for benefic planets who are well-placed but are weak, or if other malefics are creating trouble, then a gem for a benefic planet which is strong and is well-placed should be worn.

Hello Saindhavi ji, I have just taken off both gomed (left hand middle finger) and neelam (right hand middle finger).
So, right now I am only wearing diamond on my right hand little finger.
Is Pukhraj (for Jupiter) also good for me to wear besides Emerald for Mercury?
You didn't tell me about continuing to wear diamond and the reasons for the same.

Diamond is ok, since it's for Venus.

yellow Sapphire and Emerald are opposite gems, so you should wear only one at a time. For you, emerald is better than yellow sapphire. In any case, during Jupiter Mahadasha its effect will be stronger than that of Mercury. So, yellow sapphire is not needed at the moment.

As I have pointed out earlier, yours is a classical case of KSY where all planets and ascendant are trapped between Rahu-Ketu on top of it you are undergoing Ra MD.

You start with Ra-Sun dasha on Dec 10. Sun is currently conjunct with Rahu and leaves Scorpio on Dec 17. Things should improve from June 2012, effects will be seen from mid-Jan onwards.

Have you done Kal Sarpa Shanti? If not get it done. Ra MD is particularly problematic if you have KSY. Till you get it done, light lemon lamps and also do shiva abhishek with sugarcane juice and honey.

Mars is in Leo for 6 months, though it has benefic aspect of Jupiter, currently Jupiter is vakri till Dec 26, 2011 and will be move out from Aries in May 2012. Virgo ascendants need to take care of their health particularly those who have natal Mars in 12th till Dec 2011 and again from May-June 2012. Malefic dasha may add to the problems.
