Explorings,

Thanks for this very helpful post!

Please also mention the order in which these have to be recited - especially Durga Saptashati has to be recited properly and with great care.

Have you experienced diminishing or complete subduing of problems because of Rahu mahadasha after reciting these?

Dear Saindhavi,

Thanks for the clarification on Rahu and Goddess Saraswathi. You are very right about the diversity and freedom offered in Hinduism. As they say, it is not a religion but a way of life and I guess that is the beauty of it.

Warm regards

More on Durga Saptashati -

Here is a link, from where you can download a PDF of this text with verses in Devanagari and Hindi translation, published by Gita Press, Gorakhpur -

http://www.4shared.com/document/48cm_ga ... -Hind.html

Now, while reciting it, one should follow the proper nyasa and preliminary recitation of verses etc, as given in the beginning of the PDF (see "Patha-Vidhi").

This should be followed by Devi Kavacham, Argala Stotram, Kilakam, Vedic Ratrisuktam, Tantric Ratrisuktam, Devi-Atharvashirsha, Navarna and Saptashati-Nyasa (all of these precede the 1st chapter in the PDF).

Finally, one chapter each day should be recited in sequence - thus, ch1 on 1st day, ch2 on 2nd day and so on, followed by "Ya Devi Sarva Bhuteshu..." (See pp. 110-115 in PDF, verse beginning with "Namo Devyai Mahadevyai...")and the Rig Vedic Devi Suktam everyday (See video links for both above).

Durga-Bija mantra - "Om Aim Hrim Klim Chamundayai Vichchai" should be recited in the beginning and end of the each chapter recitation.

In the end of each chapter, Kshama Prarthana should be done (see p. 214 of the PDF), followed by any prayer for Durga (Bhavani Ashtakam by Adi Shankaracharaya is a good choice - see video link above).

this cycle can be repeated continuously.

Note - Durga Saptashati's any single chapter should not be recited in isolation as it can cause harm.

Explorings,

I hope you are following this procedure while reciting the Devi Mahatmya (also called Durga Saptashati).

Meemu,

Thanks.

Siddha Kunjika Stotram:

Lord Shiva himself has touted this auspicious mantra as the "Ultimate Stotram" to invoke/please his consort.

Na Kavacham Na Argala Stotram Kilkam Na Rahasyaam,

Na Suktam Naapi Va Dhyanam Na Nyaaso Na Vaarchanam.

Kunjika Paath Matrren Durga Paatham Phalam Labheta.

-Lord Shiva

Translation in English: Neither the Devi Kavacham, nor the Argala, nor Kilak, not even the Suktams, nor the dhyanam - none of these can come close to the Siddha Kunjika Stotram to conferring the true meaning and benefit of the Chandi. Such is the power of this stotram that if it is done by the uninitiated there is every possibility that it will boomerang on the performer.

(Link: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=12115#p93365)

Note:
To the best of my understanding, Siddha Kunjika Stotram is Siddha by it self and does not require Nyasa/initiation. However, it is said Kunjika Stotram is never chanted without performing the Chandi Homam, as it contains very powerful Beejaksharas, which have a definite influence on human lives. I personally recite/hear it during Ashtami/Navami transition.

This is an excellent site for slokas/stotras: http://www.prapatti.com

They have a really good collection and provide slokas/stotras in Devnagiri, English, Kannada, Malyalam, Tamil, Telugu. They also have a good quality "mp3 audio" for most of the slokas.

Special Mahalakhsmi Pooja on Fridays: (especially for: newly married, marital bliss, appeasing venus, improving finances, and over all well-being of children and family)

1. In the evening, light a lamp with two cotton wicks in front of the Goddess idol, offer fruits, and recite mahalakshmi ashtotaram stotram especially the names. Recite the names of the Goddess 11 times (In Sanskrit document this coincides with stanza 10 to 25)

Jagadoddharana by MS Subbulakshmi. Simply divine, I was blown away when I first heard it. Looks to be a very rare and old clip. From the B/W days of DD.

Dev ji, the song sounds like sanskrit. I have never heard of it. Who wrote Jagadoddharana btw??

Enjoy :D

Dear Swamycool:

Thank you for that though I have heard it several times before

It is in kannada written by the great Purandaradasar who has written around 2 lakhs kritis.
He was actually a money lender before who used to go after money but then got transformed into devotee of Lord Krishna and his songs are eternal. This is one of the many famous songs.
There are others like Venkatachalanilayam, Ramamantravajapiso, Innu daya bharate, Yake nirdayanadiyo to name a few.

MS is a special soul in the music field. She forgets herself when she sings and sings only for the Lord, not for money, fame etcYou cant find a more humble soul with such fame She also donated all her money to the handicapped, orphans, old age home etc. Even when people have money, one should have the willingess to donate and she had it in her. So she is so special and you must have heard her Vishnu Saharanamam as well. She popularised Annamachar Kritis as well and one by Rajaji Kuraionrum illai was also popularised by her. Astroboy is very fond of that song.

It has excellent meaning and is on Lord Venkatesha. The Bhakta says, I dont need anything, I am satisfied and you and Goddess Lakshmi are always there to protect me.

Believe me, if one listens to such songs of MSSubbalakshmi, which are dipped in the Bhakti rasa, one would forget all worries permanently. Only thing they have to make this a habit.

Dev ji and Ramanan ji,

Thanks for the name of the author of Jagadoddharana. :D Heard it for the first time, as this great soul is not well known in North or East India, maybe because he wrote only in Kannada.

Fully agree with Dev ji on MS Amma. As a matter of fact I am making a collection and would put up things as they come by. :D

For those having difficulties in begetting a progeny or facing difficulties in pregnancy, etc. recite this mantra 108 times daily or as many times as possible, while worshiping Bal Krishna statue (Krishna as a child idol)

The santana gopala mantra posted by explorings ji starts with Devakisuda, meaning Devaki's son. IMO, It should be Devakisuta and not Devakisuda. If it is so, i caution all from reciting mantras in wrong way. Please check the correctness of spellings and the right way of reciting any mantra.
