MYTH OR FACT :
The Navamsa Chart is the one you look to to see whether good karma is generated in this current life.
Whatever your circumstances, if this chart is strong, you will work out your penance in this current life successfully, and good karma would abound as a result.
ANSWER
----------
The Navamsa Chart is nothing more than the expansion of the 9th house. So the above statements are true.

MYTH OR FACT :
The Navamsa Chart and the Saptamsa Chart has the dubious reputation of giving as much recognition to the house which is placed 11th to the primary karya house of the respective chart.
Navamsa - the 7th for spouse although 9th is the priamry karya house standing for dharma
Saptamsa - the 5th for children although 7th is the primary karya house stanidng for all 7th house matters
Waht is the reason?
ANSWER
----------
7th and 9th houses are the places where BOTH the karaka and the natural ruler is one and the same planet and it is a natural benefic ie. Venus and Jupiter respectively.
Thus the 11th to the house, like the 7th is the 11th to the 9th and the 5th is the 11th to the 7th are considered auspicious UNLIKE THE USUAL DICTUM THAT 11TH TO A HOUSE IS MALEFIC.
Thus ancient sages have placed emphases on these houses (only the highly evolved ones have this consciousness in mind, the lesser ones are looking at spouse and children issues per se in the light of mundane queries) and in the sprit of divinity, these houses also happend to stand for the spouse and kids respectively.
Thus the reason behind this anomaly.

MYTH OR FACT :
The Lagna of your respective divisional chart shows YOUR VIEWS for that particular corresponding Bhava in the Rasi Chart. It also shows whatever that corresponding Bhava represents in the Rasi Chart like 9th house for father, 10th house for father, 7th house for spouse, 3rd house for brother, 2nd house for money, 4th house for fixed assets etc.
THEREFORE :
(1) The Lagna of the respective divisional chart shows YOUR VIEWS as well any person or thing associated with that chart.
(2) Same with the primary karya house of that divisional chart. But it is less powerful EXCEPT FOR D-10 where the corresponding 10th house is more powerful than the Lagna.
(3) The Lagna of D-7 DOES NOT show children. You have to use the 11th to the primary karya house of D-7 instead which is the 5th house. And the reason why we use D-7 besides the earlier reason given of the karaka and natural ruler being a natural benefic Venus for the 7th house and hence the 11th to it is NOT MALEFIC, is that WE ARE NOT AUTOMATICALLY BORN WITH CHILDREN. We only GAIN CHILDREN as life progresses. So to the 5th house we look under D-7.
(4) The Lagna of D-9 DOES show spouse because the Lagna is the 7th of the 7th which is the house we look to for spouse in D-9. Now 7th again is the 11th to the 9th and besides the earlier reason given of the karaka and natural ruler being a natural benefic Jupiter for the 9th house and thence the 11th to it is NOT MALEFIC (although 7th in itself is malefic), is that WE ARE NOT AUTOMATICALLY BORN WITH A WIFE. We only GAIN WIFE as life progresses. So to the 7th house we look under D-9.
The above clarifies the concerns of a lot of readers as to what the Lagna of a divisional chart represents and the various exceptions to the rule.

Hopefully reader now understands why we look at the 5th in D-7 for children and the 7th in D-9 for spouse.
FIRSTLY because to emphasise the gains concept. For example if we use D-7 for wife instead of D-9 then the gains concept (gaining a wife during one's lifetime) is not emphasised enough.
SECONDLY because children and spouse (not the sexual aspect) give us good gains especially spiritual wise and to emphasise that, we use D-9 for spouse (instead of D-7 although D-7 still plays a part), and D-7 for children (instead of D-5 although D-5 still plays a part - yes,it is stated in classics that D-5 can be used for children). In these charts ie. the D-9 and the D-7, the primary karya houses have natural benefics as the natural ruler and the karaka.

MYTH OR FACT :
Navamsa represents the God portion of us.
Hence EVERY DIVISIONAL CHART has also its own corresponding Navamsa. For example D-4 that represents fixed assets and vehicles also has a corresponding Navmasa. It is as if God has decreed a certain portion of himself in handling your affairs pertaining to the 4th house.
All these God portions add up to the overall God portion in us.
So use these little Navamsa charts to add clarity and insight to the affairs covered by that paritcular respective divisional chart.

For a vargothama lagna in D7, an own house retrograde planet in 5th in D7 ( It is the 5th lord in D1) good or bad?
How does a retrograde planet change the scenario ?

MYTH OR FACT :
From the posts just posted, we can come to the following corollary.
3rd, 7th and 11th houses (the AIR houses) have a dharmic quality in them in the following way :
(1) Any gains to them is represented by a dharmic house, so it becomes infuse with dharma.
(2) Any gains in dharma in the dharmic houses (1st, 5th or 9th) is through the AIR houses.
(3) Therefore we need relationships and people in order to increase our quotient of dharma.
(4) But we should not be too much attached to them because Air Houses, as time progresses, the dharma quotient in them would be lowered in the sense that they would be used up.

Hi Ashtalakshmi
In that same post, it was mentioned about the counting of signs (direction depending odd or even) to determine the sex of the child as well as the status ie. 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. Planets also determine the sex of the child.
As for retrogade, if I remember correctly, it changes the picture of the above according to the post but I cannot be sure. Mabye you can post your question in that thread.

MYTH OR FACT :
Rahu does not do well in the 9th. But its aspect to the 9th is welcomed.
ANSWER
----------
True.
Rahu's natural houses are the 11th and the 3rd.
Now 2nd to the 11th is the 12th where Jupiter is the natural ruler. 2nd to the 3rd is the 4th where Moon is the natural ruler. Jupiter and the Moon are the karakas and backup karakas of the 9th respectively.
2nd to a House A supports house A.
Thus Rahu is best if has some linkage to the 9th although it should not be situated in the 9th.

However, Rahu (alone, but conjuncting planet is another matter) well placed by sign mitigate the above to a large extent since it is a node and takes on the attributes of the sign it is in (or you can read it as Nakshatra).
Rahu is Maraka Kana Stanth in the 9th because the basic attributes of Jupiter and the Moon (the karaka and backup karaka of the 9th) are at odds with Rahu even though they do well together under many conditions (past posts have discussed about this).

MYTH OR FACT :
The Earth Houses are quite good because they are the EXPANSION of the corresponding Dharmic House.
Eg. 2nd is the expansion of the 9th, 10th is the expansion of the 5th and the dubious one 6th is the expansion of the 1st which we would be talking about.
(I know, I know, I did mention 2nd is not such a good house but remember in the past post I mention 2nd house is good in that everyone aspire to it, but once you are there, it can drag you down - refer to my past post).
Now we know the 1st lord is only a functional benefic for the Aires, Cancer, Leo, Virgo and Aquarius Ascendant from a past post by Elipsis.
Hence the 6th lord for these ascendants are good - let's say we take away Cancer because the lord of the 6th for Cancer is already atrinal lord.
That leaves Aires, Leo Virgo and Aquarius whose lord of the 6th is quite good even though it is functionally malefic for them (except for Virgo where the 6th lord is functionally neutural ruled by Saturn together with the 5th house and since this dictum also applies for the Virgo Ascendant, the 6th lord becomes slightly above average).

MYTH OR FACT :
We now come to the those Ascendant Lords where they are functionally malefic or functionally neutral.
For these Ascendants we sieve out those where the 6th lord is friendly to the Ascendant Lord. For these Ascendants, the 6th lord can be considered functionally malefic but MUCH MINIMIZED FOR THE MALEFICITY.
These Ascendants are :
Pisces, Taurus, Scorpio (leaving aside Cancer and Capricorn - see below).
The 6th lord is friendly to Lagna Lord. R V Ramanan has discussed this concept in a separate post of his.
Cancer and Capricorn has 6th lord being a trinal lord as well.
Gemini and Libra has the 6th lord which is neither an enemy nor a friend to the Lagna Lord.
That LEAVES only for the Sagittarius Ascendant whose 6th lord is a full fledge malefic.

An Announcement :
I just realise you can shift the Lagna to the next sign in JHora.
So one shift the Lagna ALL THE WAY to the 5th house as the Ascendant.
The Arudha Padas would then show at the place when we take 5th house as the Ascendant.
Eg. in my case the A9 shifts to the 3rd house together with A7.
I think this fits in more with my character as well as showing my fortune in writing.
Note Arduha Padas are normally read from the D-1 and D-60. Other Arudha Padas are read on a case by case basis as needed like in D-9 for spouse.

Oops....but note the shifting of the Lagna by Jhora is only good for the Rasi and not good for the other divisional charts.
This is because JHora although can shift to the next sign step by step (or the previous sign step by step), the degree point of the Lagna changes, which affects the overall composition of the divisional charts ie. the planets all change places as a result of thechange of the degree point ofthe Lagna of D-1.
Thus use this feature of JHora to see where the Arudhas fall to for the D-1 only.
Thanks.

MYTH OR FACT :
I have mentioned Shani is not a dharmic planet and that is why for a Virgo or Gemini Ascendant, even though Shani is ruling the 5th and 9th house respectively, it is only a neutral.
But yet Aquarius Ascendant, Shani is functionally benefic.
Besides the reasons given earlier, the main reason is that when Shani holds the lordship of a trie and kendra (of which the Lagna is both), it is in mutual kendra to the natural house of Libra (the 7th house). Libra is the sign when Saturn makes sure that the Dharma the person received is properly apportioned to him based on his karma, both present and past. Saturn becomes a very good functional benefic.
Same with Taurus and Libra Ascendants.
And of course for the latter two, the Lagna Lord Venus is a great friend of Saturn.

You may say, Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, the 4th house, and Mars in Capricorn, the 10th house, so why this concept does notapply to them?
For example, Jupiter ruling the 6th and 9th is functional benefic for a Cancer Ascendant, so why there is no need for Jupiter to rule a kendra? Same with Mars for a Pisces Ascendant where it rules both 2nd and 9th house, it is a auspcious functional benefic, why no need for Mars to rule a kendra?
The following are the reasons all relating to the fact that Saturn is strong when it has some influence over the kendra as counted from the Lagna :
(1) Saturn is strong where it sits. Therefore the kendras mutual to where it sits is strong. This shows Saturn has affinity with kendras whether fromitself or from Lagna.
(2) Because Saturn is strong when it has ties with the kendra counted from the Lagna, its exaltation sign Libra which is related to the 7th house will correspondly get strong and pulls Saturn up with it.
Then why Nadi Astrology takes Jupiter as the Ascendant instead of Saturn? The secret is that of all the kendras to the Lagna, Saturn is least strong when placed in the Lagna even though Saturn is strong wherever it is placed. And Jupiter happens to be the strongest in the Lagna. And Jupiter represents life. Hence Nadi Astrology takes Jupiter as the Ascendant rather than Saturn.

Now the thing is the Capricorn Ascendant satsifies the above conditions. Why is Saturn still neutural as a functional lord of the 1st house?
This is because the 1st house trinal effects are LESS THAN the 5th or the 9th. As a result if a NON-MOOLATRIKONA SIGN OF A NON-GREAT BENEFIC (IE. JUPITER OR VENUS BEING THE GREAT BENEFIC) WERE TO SIT ON THE 1ST HOUSE, LIKE SCORPIO FOR MARS AND CAPRICORN FOR SATURN, IT WOULD STILL SUFFER FROM SOME SORT OF KENDRAPATHI DOSA.
Thus the Capricorn Ascendant still has a functionally neutral 1st lord notwithstanding Saturn is ruling a kendra and a trine ie. the Lagna itself.
