Devji

of late i have started to wonder if remedies can be learnt from books. the main reason is lack of comprehensive books. secondly, i feel this should be learnt from an experienced astrologer to grasp its nuances.

Kandhan:

I agree with you. May be all the famous astroexperts around the world should sit together, meet at a place and arrive at some common points on these.

In some cases, I too give remedies based on the weakness of the particular planet. This is based on what I have read, have heard and so on. It is more to help the person rather than to claim myself to be parihara person.

For example, when someone is suffering, it is good to say, feed cows if his sukra is weak and marriage is not happening and so on, this definiltely will help.

Dear all,

People have been asking me questions about the efficacy of the mudras, the technical details as to how it works and the duration it takes to give tangible results and about side-effects if any. In this post I shall try to answer all these questions by taking one mudra and one symptom which is a menace in this present day world.
Lets consider obesity. In this present world of expanding economy, the one expansion which people dont prefer is the 'lateral expansion'. Lack of proper exercise, getting glued to the computer, eating junk food, depression are some of the causes for accumulation of bad cholesterol in the body leading to obesity and maybe finally to cardiac problems.

LDL, VLDL and TGL are the bad cholesterol in the body which might lead to cardiac problems. Only the HDL (good cholesterol) can prevent a cardiac-arrest. Lets see as to how to prevent the accumulation of bad
cholesterol in the body with 'Soorya mudra'.

All the fat in the body can be melted through heat. When we do the soorya mudra the body temperature increases and the accumulated fat starts to melt. The fat deposits inside the blood vessels also melt, thereby, increasing the blood flow to the heart and hence the chances of a cardiac-arrest gets reduced
considerably.

People who have already had a heart problem can do this mudra along with 'Apanavayu mudra' to reduce the risk considerably of future attacks to the heart.

HOW DOES SOORYA MUDRA WORK?

It activates the fire element in the body.

The energy coming from sun enters the body through the chakras and is converted into the life force or prana, thereby rejuvenating the entire system.

The procedure for doing this mudra is already given in the first post of this thread.

Now coming to obesity. Though people keep a check on their diet and also do some physical exercises, still they find it difficult to reduce and lets see why it happens.

The body takes energy from the carbohydrates for its functions and once the level of carbohydrates decreases the body takes energy from the proteins. Only when even the protein levels are considerably reduced the body takes energy from the excess fat stored in the adipose tissue. This particular process takes about 6months and hence people dont see much results even after a controlled diet and physical exercise.

But, when you do this soorya mudra, right from day one, the excess fat starts to melt and even from the second month you can feel a tangible difference in your weight. For fuller results, it is advised that one must do this soorya mudra along with prithvi mudra which helps in complete assimilation of the nutrients we take in.

The prithvi mudra also stops further accumulation of fat in the body.

The best posture for this mudra is vajrasana, padmasana, siddasana in that order. Please take care to keep both the head and the spinal cord erect. The duration of the mudra is minimum of 8mins and maximum of 20mins. While you do this mudra, your body could get heated up and hence in summer do it for just 8mins and in winter for about 20mins.

For some people, who have a very hot body constitution should refrain from doing this for more than 8mins.

This soorya mudra also activates the thyroid gland and for people who have hypothyroid, they can reduce their weight considerably and people who have hyperthyroidism are advised NEVER to do soorya mudra.

More about thyroid later.

Dear Nupur,
For hypo-thyroid, Soorya Mudra is very effective. It burns excess fat, reduces weight and stimulates the thyroid gland.

Even people who have no thyroid problems can do this mudra but when they get restless and tired at the same time, it means that the thyroid levels have increased beyond normal and at this point it is better to discontinue this mudra for a week. They should immediately go for a blood test to check their thyroid levels (T3, T4, TSH estimation).

Only through the blood test you can find out about the fat levels in the blood and also the proper functioning of the thyroid gland. So, people who have thyroid problems while doing Soorya mudra, are advised to bein constant touch with the family physician.

A combination of Soorya Mudra for 8 mins & Shankh mudra for 8 mins in vajrasana during early morning is the easiest remedy for hypo-thyroid.

A word of caution for everyone:
People who have HYPER-THYROID......SHOULD NEVER DO SOORYA MUDRA & SHANKH MUDRA.....

Trust this helps.

Dear sowmya,
The name is Magasir mudra and some prefer to call it Maha Siras mudra.

You can try soorya mudra after you are completely out of sinus. Doing too many mudras is both cumbersome and you may tend to loose focus.

Dear Rose,

Even without the diagrams, if you read the text carefully, you can still figure out as to how that mudra is to be done.

Dear Ramananji,

Can we do the mudras immediately after taking bath? I have this doubt as some yoga postures are not to be done just after bath and I am not sure if mudras could be categorized as such.

Dear Hari,

Normally an hour before and after food are the times prohibited for doing mudras. From my personal observation mudras are most effective early mornings preferably before sun rise.
