I was reading Parivartana yog article by Barbara Pijan, where she used Indira Gandhi's chart as example. She had almost all the house lords involved in parivartan. I never understand this yoga. In her article, She mentioned that 1) parivartan grahas aspect from their usual positions as well as new positions 2) it acts like a conjuction to some extent, which means in each of these bhavas, you could consider both the grahas to be present simultaneously, and 3) the in MD and AD the bhava / karaka's effects may interchange ( this I already knew).

I am intrigued because I have 4 grahas involved in parivartan and one is retrograde. What do I consider as the aspects and how does it manifest? I can't much differentiate in my own chart or in any chart - be it dasa or antardasa. It seems to be activated as per normal positions, without taking any parivartan into consideration. Same for retro planets, it may have slowed down things but to me it does'nt look like aspects changed. I have observed both the grahas may gain strength, in some cases. But does it really operate in this way (new aspects or like conjunction) for anyone here? Having multiple graha involved in parivartan should involve almost all the bhavas and alter the entire chart prognosis, is it not?

I am not questioning validity but trying to understand, it looks to be very complex and results to be inconsistent to me. Are there any thumb rules, how to check where it operates and where it may not?

As example, Jupiter is retro for me in 10th house, to some extent this gave me good environments to work for, respect at work place but always delays in getting job, breaks in career. If retro planet goes to previous bhava (9th house), it must be aspecting the 10th lord Venus in my 3rd. Venus is almost destroyed in my chart except for being in itS own house. But Venus AD periods were difficult in all aspects of life, no job, no one around me, no financial benefits, etc. Jupiter's aspect did not help in anyway.

Same way, if planets end up acting as if conjunct or in their own house, both my LAgna lord Sun and 2nd lord Mercury should be in 1st house, or 2nd house or both? Same time Moon exchange with Saturn, so does it save lagna from papakartari, between Saturn and Sun?

I keep getting confused, I am happy if anyone wants to use some other chart as example. Need not be my chart.

here are my simplified undersatndign converted to rules for parivartana Yoga:

1) Parivartan between dusthan lords ( 6,8 and 12) is good i.e 6-8 lords in exchange takes aways some / lot ( but not all) malefic content from them and gives the good significations of those houses during the periods of 6 and/ or 8 lords

2) parivartana between non-dusthan lords si also good...for example between 4-11 is good.....makes both hosues and their lrods stronger

3) Parivaratan between dusthan and non-dusthan lords is th worst......eg 6-9...will spoil both houses and their lords.

4) varaint of No. 2) is when Kendra lords or Kona Lords or kendra-Kona Lords are in exchnage it is exceptionally strong case.......almost like a Raj-yoga...but not quite a defined Raj-Yoga.

5) retrogradation does not have an impact on Parivaratan as listed above.. and the house for the retrograde planet is like any normal planet.....not one before or after IMO.

hope this helps

Thanks, Shilpa. I agree with this. To some extent, it applies to my Moon/Saturn. But I am curious about the graha aspects, do you consider number of aspects to double? As per Barbara's article, grahas in parivartan aspect from both: 1) original bhava placement, 2) bhava after parivartan.

Sun being in Virgo 2nd house aspects 8th, but being in parivartan with Mercury in Leo, does Sun also aspect 7th house from 1st house?

As I understand from the article, Mercury can be considered to be both in 1st and 2nd and aspecting both 7th and 8th. Same for Sun. So these 2 grahas in parivartan involve 8 bhavas instead of 4 bhavas. Does it hold true in any charts you know of?

Thanks,

this is not a verifiable part for me so far

Is (1) applicable if the parivartan is between two malefics or if one is malefic and the other is benefic?

between any two planets as long as they rule dusthans ( Ra and Ket not counted)
