Hi Learned Members
Now classics do say that when Jupiter has an influnence on Mercury in the chart, the chart would be stronger.
But it is better that the influence be based on aspect rather than association because Jupiter can be overpowering on Mercury.
However, if Mercury is in the 2nd, even aspect by Jupiter can be troublesome (for that matter Moon's aspect as well).
However, if Jupiter associates with Mercury in the 2nd Bhava, during the dasa of Jupiter, finances may be not so good. Finances during Mercury dasa would be good instead (this is from one classic). This could be because 2nd Bhava is the general house for learning (like in Mother's laps, common sense, through the five senses etc.) and Jupiter as the teacher for Mercury imparts so many things to him leaving the Guru, Jupiter really exhausted.
4 points above to serve as a reference for readers.

Hi
Some more points I got from Sanketa Nidhi regarding Mercury in the 2nd Bhava or its effects on the 2nd Bhava.
Venus in 2nd house aspected by Mercury - gain of wealth
Waning Moon in 2nd house aspected by Mercury - loss of wealth
Mercury in 2nd house aspected by Moon - poor
(The poor here denotes not so much destitute but as in depending on ancestral accummulation of wealth as indicated by the classic).
Another version is that Mercury or a malefic in the 2nd house - poor
Another version is that Moon aspecting the 2nd - poor
Sun+Mercury - clever in serving others
In the above combination ie. Sun+Mercury, the lordship of Mercury ie. the houses it rules represent the relatives who have control over his wealth and survival. So for an Aquarius Lagna, one person depended on his income from his son (Mercury rules 5th) and from pension derived from him being of a certain lineage (Mercury rules 8th).
Venus and Jupiter influences on the 2nd house is good (without Mercury and Moon). Has sweet and soft speech and lots of wealth.
If in the above, lagna lord and 2nd lord is together with Venus and Jupiter, all the good effects of the 2nd house can be felt.

Hi Khoo,
I have a combination of Mercury + Venus +Jupiter +Sun in my 6th house scorpio. Guess it would be too difficult to apply rules as such to this. But then as a learner of astrology would like to know about this combination of planets.
Wont more than one planet in any house cause a graha yuddha ? Also Mercury is sun s enemy . So how the planets in the same house can give a good result ??
Please clarify.
\regards

Hi Rvenkam
Let's sort out the haystack to find the needle.
Graha Yuddha is by declination and not by degree. The latter is a popular misconception. So just because you see a bunch of planets together in a chart, it does not mean that they are in planetary war. But planets in conjunction tend to be close in declination and hence the pouplar misconception feeds itself.
BPHS supports the above view.
Now according to BPHS, Venus never loses a planetary war. So Venus in 2nd Bhava where it is strong is a blessing (Venus is stronger in 12th and the visible half of Lagna because Venus likes to shine, but in the 2nd Bhava where she is the natural ruler, she is strong as well but for a different reason as you can see).
So Venus in 2nd Bhava is strong in your planetary conjunctions in the 2nd although we cannot discount combustion by the Sun as well.
Mercury is the best planet that can withstand the Sun's combustion. Mercury is not Sun's enemy unless Sun is in Gemini. Sun+Mercury in 2nd Bhava as noted, gives a person intelligence to start a new venture. Mercury+Venus is excellent and Sun+Venus gives livelihood through limbs and arms (provided Venus is not too highly combusted like situated in a different pada from the Sun).
Jupiter in 2nd Bhava is excellent for Mercury (one-sided relationship which means only during Mercury's dasa it is good) and also excellent for Venus (a two-sided relationship).
Sun+Jupiter normally gives royal gains (something you get because of enetitlement as these are the king and the minister). Jupiter will give gains later in life when with Sun - it feels the combustion effects but Jupiter slowly but surely delivers his results.
All four planets together? Quite good because the Moon has kept her fingers out of the pie (the 2nd Bhava) and the natural malefics of Mars and Saturn as well. All these are bad for Mercury placed in the 2nd Bhava.

This means that Moon is in the eighth house right? I have such a chart, with Mercury by itself in Gemini and Moon in Dhanu...Khoo Hock Leong wrote:

No I mean, I have someone's chart with this, it's not in mine.
Hello Khoo
Would you be able to explain if there is a change in the effect based on their conjunction if either or both of them are functional malefics ?
I am a cancer ascendant with mercury & jupiter within 5degrees conjunction in Sagitarius in the 6th house.
Also I have started the Jupiter dasa in May 2011.
What effect would I expect from a finance standpoint ?
Thanks
Vin

Hi Anxious
In that case give me his birth details. If you look at my analysis for the otherr querant, there may be other factors impinging on the 2nd like Venus or Jupiter etc.
After an accurte assessment, then we can predict what the future holds for him.
Also Sun+Mercury in 2nd portends money from your lineage if you see what is stated in Jataka Tatva.
So better to see everything in totality.

Hi vin
Well in your case Mercury is in his element by being placed in his natural house and is comfortable in Sagittarius (Mercury does well in Jupiter sign).
Still Jupiter in his Moolatrikona sign and conjuncting Mercury within 5 degrees do exert some force on Mercury. And this influence in this case is for the better.
You are not a critical, petty or argumentative person notwithstanding Mercury in the 6th. In fact this association of the two planets make you quite a good worker - able to see big and small points to an issue alike.
Warmest Regards

Hi Anxious2711
Yes, it looks like your nephew satisfies the Yoga.
But note his 2nd house is under :
11th to Venus which denotes prosperity (11th is 12th to 12th)
8th to Jupiter which denotes big legacies
11th to Ketu which denotes sudden material benefits as well as prosperity comes easily to him
11th to Saturn which denotes durable gains
5th to Rahu which denotes high magnitude of all the above (5th is the 3rd to the 3rd and 3rd to Rahu denotes something powerful)
12th to Sun which denotes something tangible in manifestation for his idolisation, beholden to him
7th to Moon which denotes his clan (7th is the 4th to the 4th) - something like an extened family
Most astrological texts forget to take into account planets' specialised significations using them as Ascendants unlike BPHS. Mercury is also strong in its own sign by the way making the above specialised significations doubly powerful.
