Dear Dev
Actually when we consider planets in nakshatras any of the following factors can come into play with that particular planet which is placed in that nakshatra :
(1) The Nakshatra Lord
(2) The Deity
(3) The sign
(4) Any exchange of nakshatra lords
(5) Dispositorship by nakshatra lords
(6) Nature of the planet in question - whether it is the Lagna, Sun, Moon Rahu, Ketu, Venus etc.
(7) Are there more than 1 planet in that particular Nakshatra - that would make a difference
(8) Is a planet in a Nakshatra which is a vedha to another planet in another Nakshatra
(9) Use all the systems of predicting via Nakshatra relative positions from the Moon and the Sun. There more than 2 systems and they can provide an interaction to produce interesting combinations.
Further down the road then other details come into play like Bhava placements, planetary aspects, pattern of planets in chart like yogas etc.
There is no fixed weightage as I have always said but it depends on the individual chart. Sometimes dispositorship can take precedence because of an exchange (which is a kind of specialised dispositorship), the Lagna Nakshatra can be overrideen by a stellium of planets in another Nakshatra etc.
Even conjunctions also there is a difference. They may be conjuncting in the same Nakshatra and sign and Navamsa pada (a tight conjunction) or just by sign only (a loose conjunction).

Re: Grahas in Nakshatras
Thanks Khoo for the nice explanation.
Yes, it is really complex. But then having planets in the nakshatras of 1at, 9th, 10th and 11 lords are in general good, can we take it that way, though of course it depends on its friendship with the planet and so on.
In my case 3 are in 9th lord's, 3 in lagna and 6th lords, 2 in 8th and 11th lord's and one in 10th lord's nakshatra.
I would appreciate your thoughts on these.

Dear Khoo ,
First of all thank you so much !
Your analysis is so accurate
Thanks a lot once more !

First of all thank you so much !
Your analysis is so accurate
My mercury is in CapricornMercury in Dhanista shows you are an ideas person. You are someone who thirst for knowledge and not ivory tower knowledge but knowledge that is useful and practical.
In areas of commerce, your business ideas can be put to good use to garner huge success. Co-operative and team ventures would also be favourable because Mercury is a group planet.
Public speaking, bargaining, negotiation etc. all these are your forte.
If Mercury is in Capricorn it will garner status and fame in the corporate world, but if in Aquarius you will be in the forefront of spearheading something new like technology, new business processes, new social groups etc.
Very true ...Venus in Sravana shows you have a soft spot for the downtrodden. You are also very tender to your loved ones and very compassionate and understanding to those who are your friends. Still Sravana is in Capricorn and you do not wear your heart on your sleeve and hence not openly demonstrative where love matters are concerned and only people who know you well would understand this true nature of your.
Interesting ....Guru in Swati and Rahu in Puna shows that you try to pick out good ideas related to metaphysics (like astrology), finance, philosophy or even to get in touch with good contacts (Jupiter is the karaka of the 11th) which is to your benefit (Jupiter is the karaka of good fortune) and more often than not give you luck (Jupiter is the karaka of the 5th) and these help to rejuvenate your well-being so that you are never down and out (Rahu in Puna). In fact you gain spiritually each day (Puna is a spiritual Nakshatra) and materially you are periodically rejuvenated (Puna covers material rejunvenation and not as rich as Pushya). So materially, you can comfortably get by (Rahu expands Jupiter and Jupiter is the karaka for wealth).
Thanks a lot once more !
Warm regards,
Spidey
I am a student of this subject , and hence I might be wrong in my calculations. Kindly seek other opinions too , before coming to a conclusion.

Re: Grahas in Nakshatras
Hi
Oh yes, and I forgot to mention that the nature of the Nakshatras is important as well. Are they Sattvic, Tasmanic or Rajastic? And this has nothing to do with the Nakshatra Lord's elemental nature.
For example Ashlesha is Sattvic but is lord Mercury is Rajastic.
And also whether the Nakshatra is light, dreadful, movable, fierce etc.? The animal representing the Nakshatra is importan too. So is the tree and all its other parameters.
The story behind each Nakshatra and what they stand for comes into the picture as well like Jyestha is about Indra chasing the deer which is a transformation of a Goddess running away from his amorous quest on her.
Now to your question and comments.
Yes, you are right. Having Nakshatras which contain the natural benefics which not ruling the Dusthana houses are good. So also holding the planets which are lords of the 1st, 9th, 10th and 11th Bhavas. You are absolutely correct! Friendship of this said lord with the Nakshatra lord I have already mentioned as one of the factors earlier in my initial reply to you.
Being in the Nakshatra whose lord happens to be the 1st, 9th, 10th and 11th of the Bhava lords is another plus factor. Note this point is different from the one in the previous paragraph.
Your planets are splayed over a set of Nakshatras which are generally good since all the lords are also rulers of trinal houses and one which is a ruler of the 10th, the apex of the chart denoting accomplishments, hard work and contributions to society. Only 2 of them are in the Nakshatra whose lord is not so good being the ruler of the 8th and 11th Bhava as well.
You can also look into the planets you mentioned are they themselves also trinal lords. Not just the Nakshatra lords which are trinal lords. Usually the 1st factor is slighly stronger than the 2nd factor ie. placements of trinal lords in Nakshatras are stronger in its good effects than if a planet is placed in a Nakshatra whose lord is also a trinal lord. But Mr. Deppak has BOTH (see below).
For example, Mr. Deepak (Astroboy) has Mercury and Venus in their own Nakshatras and Mercury and Venus are trinal lords as well. This is very good notwisthstanding he has ALL the planets which are non-trine rulers in kendra - Sun, Moon, Mars and Jupiter. This fact alone negates a lot of the negativity that could have manifested in the chart. Another good factor is that he has two trine rulers in Kendra - Venus and Saturn by dispsotship through being in Mars Nakshatra and Mars is in the Ascendant.

Re: Grahas in Nakshatras
Hi Dev
By the way another factor to consider is the Nakshatra Lord whether it is exalted which is according to Astroboy's post. I would add Nakshatra Lord in own sign is also very good.
Then depending on the nature of the Nakshatra whether it is active, balanced or passive, the goodness of the Nakshatra lord well placed in its own sign or being exalted would have different effects. Astroboy has explained it for the balanced and passive Nakshatra. Let me give an explanation for the active Nakshatra if the lord is exalted or placed in its own sign.
The person would take active steps to solve the problems, if any, he encounters in its environment. But then much would also depend on the nature of the Nakshatra which the lord of the other Nakshatra is in. So when it comes to the lord of a Nakshatra, you have to evaluate 3 factors :
(1) Is the Nakshatra lord placed in its own sign or exalted sign?
(2) The nature of the Nakshatra the lord ot the first Nakshatra is in.
(3) Whether the Nakshatra lord is a friend or enemy to the Nakshatra lord he is sitting in.
Astroboy has indicated for this factor above, the Lagna and the Lagna Lord in a person's chart should be looked into and given high weightage.
Well in the case of my chart, my trinal lords the Moon, Mars and Jupiter where the Nakshatra factor above is concerned is especially potent for goodness. Why?
(1) Moon sits in the Nakshatra of Mars which is a trinal lord. Moon is also a trinal lord. As a matter of fact, Ketu also a trinal lord sits in the Nakshatra of Moon as well. Although Ketu shrinks Moon, but Saturn is in its own sign in the background and the goodness of Ketu si brought out instead of its down and out destructive tendencies. Ketu is also ruling the good points of the Bhavas 11th and 12th to it denoting spirtuality (12th to Ketu which is Sagittarius), obstacles overcoming (which is 6th to Rahu also Sagittarius), sudden spiritual and material benefits (11th to Ketu which is Scorpio).
(2) Mars is a trinal lord sitting in the Nakshatra of Venus. Venus although not a trinal lord is conjuncting Rahu in the 1st Bhava and during Rahus's dasa/antardasa, Rahu ropes in both the Moon and Venus and Rahus assume the identity of the Moon which is a trinal lord. Mars therefore benefits during Rahu's dasa. This being the 1st Bhava, all the benefits accrue to me.
(3) Jupiter is a trinal lord sitting in the Nakshatr of Rahu. The same effects as for the Mars scenario during rahu's dasa/antardasa is again felt. Again all the benefits accrue to me.
(4) Venus and Rahu in the 1st Bhava, the pair of planets which are the prime mover, sits in the Nakshatra of Saturn which though not a trinal lord is a Yogi planet. Although Vishkumbha (the Yogin point of Pushya) is not an auspicious Yogi point, but Pushya itself is auspicious. So generally it is good as well. Saturn by virtue of being placed in Makara in 7th Bhava in its own sign, shows that its rulership of 8th Bhava becomes defunct according to Philadeepika.
(5) Saturn itself, sits in the Nakshatra of the Moon together with Ketu. Mercury also sits in the Nakshatra of the Moon and though not a trinal lord, Mercury in the 11th Bhava grants the person extreme intelligence (aside from the factor of high Shadbala) and together with Saturn and Ketu in the same Nakshatra of the Moon which is the Lagna Lord and Atmakaraka, makes me adept in spiritual topics.
Generally my Kendras has Mars the trinal lord, Venus+Rahu (which also disposits both the trinal lords Mars and Jupiter by Nakshatra) asepcted by Mars and Jupiter which is a Raja Yoga, Saturn a Yogi planet and ruler of Pushya, Moon a trinal lord and Ketu the trinal lord. My Kendra is actually quite blessed.

Hi Dev
The other thing is that my Sun ruler of the 2nd Bhava of resources is also in Rahu's Nakshatra. So just like Jupiter, during Rahu's dasa/antardasa, a lot of benefits would accrue to me also.

Khoo
Thanks for the detailed and wonderful explanation. So I understand that if trine lords are in the nakshatras of planets which are also trines or in their own nakshatra, that makes it very powerful but I think very few horoscopes would really have that.
Taking your own chart, you have explained very well. Your analysis motivates every reader and I appreciate u for expaining in such detail

Hi KHLKhoo Hock Leong wrote:hi mannu
Your Lagna in Satabhisaj shows your are a thinker and a class of your own. You also like Astrology a lot. You can be fierce if provoked but you seldom are. People need to know you long enough in order to know you better. But you are friendly since it is under Aquarius.
Sun in Moola shows your interest in various knowledge and you read widely in all subjects and in depth. Together with your Langa in Satabhisaj makes you an ideal research worker. Sun is Sagittarius here so a person thinks broadly as well.
Moon in Pushya further adds to the academic field indicated by Lagna and the Sun. You are very thorough in your work and have high principles too and should make a name for yourself. Pushya is good for the Moon since not only is the Moon in Cancer which grants a person with a good emotional makeup but Pushya the deity is Jupiter and Moon exalts Jupiter so the deity of this Nakshatra is thereby strengthened.
Mars in Mrgha is in its own Nakshatra and the person is a hard worker. Mrigha is a soft Nakshatra so your agressiveness is lessened somewhat (and I mean only somewhat). You can have high sexual attraction to others.
Mercury in Poorva Ashada shows you are never at a loss for words when it comes to argument (but I guess only when provoked because of your Lagna in Satabhisaj needs to be aroused). You have an active mind and always tackles each piece of work with full preparation (as if akin to going to war) and you do it well. Mercury here is in Sagittarius and gives a good intellect. A further boost to your inclination in the academic field.
Jupiter in Revati shows you are a kind soul and would help anyone whom you know on an acquaintance level without a moment's hesitation. Jupiter here gives boundless compassion as you are able to see through a person's suffering beyond its physical manifestation. This placement of Jupiter also adds to research (besides spiritual) insights.
Venus in Vishakha shows that your loved ones take up much of your time and you differentiate them from other ordinary folks. They are your goals in life and your other goals include having congenial relationships with others although sometimes you may find it difficult to obtain because you seldom mix freely (other placments also come into play). Yet you are friendly in a sort of "making an effort" kind of way, though not natural, but I guess once they break through the barrier, your Moon and Jupiter shows you are a nice person.
Saturn in Pushya is strong. Gives much blessing in all areas ruled by Saturn. You are disciplined and persevering. You are a good service worker. With Moon here in Pushya here as well, shows your mind is very straightforward and to the point and you have no time to play fancy games or indulge in idle talk (Mercury in Poorva Ashada likewise). Are you holding a high position by the way in the corporate world? Even if not, you are well respected in society.
Rahu in Vishakha (with Venus) inflates your need to have congenial relationships with others. But less passionate people would take to their heels and run away. But for those who stay and accept your love and affection, you have much to give.
Ketu in Krittika (in Aires or Taurus?) If in Aires, you can have an explosive temper at times. In Taurus, not so much. Krittika purifies things as it is ruled by Agni and Ketu has a purifying effect as well. This shows you are a religious person which is in tandem with other Nakshatra placements.
On the whole your Nakshatra placemetns are very good.
Warmest Regards

Re: Grahas in Nakshatras
Hi Khoo,
Could you suggest the indications of Rahu and Ketu in their own Nakshatras. We know placement of a Graha in it's own sign gives strength. How about placement in own nakshatra?
i.e For me, Rahu is in Swati in 11th House without aspects, Ketu is in Moola in 5th.
Regards
Hari

Hi Harih
In terms of the nodes placing in their own Nakshatras, look at the post
Rahu Alone or Conjuncting Another Planet.
If your node happens to be alone, then Shilpa's comments within that thread applies. The house flourishes - Shilpa had a point that if the node is alone, we look to the Nakshatra lord where the node is placed to see whether it is powerful or not. In this case where Rahu is in its own Nakshatra, it is obviously powerful when alone.
Hina has Rahu in Aquarius and Rahu is alone. You can read her comments as well.

Re: Grahas in Nakshatras
Hi REaders
We have discussed above trine lords in Nakshatras owned by trine lords (A). Or trine lords in Nakshatras owned by non-trine lords (B). Or no-trine lords in Nakshatras owned by trine lords (C).
Between the second (B) and the third (C), the second would be more powerful in terms of beneficience to the Nakshatra as discussed.
But how about for Raja Yogas in terms of Nakshatras? We can use the principle below (taken from sign considertions) to apply to Nakshatras :
Raja Yogas Formed by Combination of Nakshatras
------------------------------------------------------------
When the lord of a quadrant is in some way related to the lord of a trine, a Raja Yoga (or a highly benefic combination) is formed. Benefic combinations in a horoscope neutralise affliction and are good for remaining free from disease. Relationship between any two house lords can be in one of the following ways (considering Nakshatra placements only) :
(a) By location in the same Nakshatra (conjunction). This is very powerful since the two lords are not only placed in the same sign but also in the same Nakshatra.
(b) By mutual aspect. Here whenever (A), (B) and (C) above applies for any two planets one of which is a quadrant ruler and the other a trine ruler AND they mutually aspect each other by sign (whether Yuti or Dhristi). Again this is more powerful than the ordinary condition of mutual aspect.
(c) By an exchange of Nakshatras (Parivartana Yoga) between a quadrant lord and a trine lord. This is more powerful than the usual exchange by signs.
(d) When one of them is placed in the other's Nakshatra and this latter aspects the former (whether Yuti or Dhrishti).
Note : When the lords of quadrants and trines are related in one of the ways indicated above, they still do not produce a Raja yoga if they also own the Papasthanas (adverse houses), i.e., houses 3, 6 and 11.

Hi
We can consider aspects by Nakshatra relative positions on some of the points enumerated above but I am not well versed with that and hence I have left it out.

Re: Grahas in Nakshatras
Hi Khoo:
So in my case, with the combination of 7 planets, as per your rule, can I deduce the following:
Rahu is in budha's nakshatra and is aspected by budha, so it is good.
Jupiter a kona lord (5th apart from 2nd) with kendra lord sun(10th) is good.
Mars jupiter conjunction is not that good since mars also owns 6th apart from first.
Saturn and venus though own one kendra house, nemaly 4 and 7, also own 3 and 12.
Moon trikona lord in kendra 1st house is good.
I would appreciate your inputs.

Re: Grahas in Nakshatras
Hi Dev
No you did not read it carefully. I am combining the conditions that we discussed together which involve Nakshatras, aspects and trinal lords combining with kendra lords with the usual principles for Raja Yoga using signs, aspects and trinal lords combining with kendra lords only but without Nakshatras.
Your 1st point - Rahu in Budha's Nakshatra and aspected by Budha : Neither your Rahu nor Mercury are trina lords. Only Rahu is a quadrant lord. The combination of trinal with kendra lords is not there.
Your 2nd pont - Jupiter a kona lord with Sun a kendra lord - They may be in the same sign but are they in the same Nakshatra? If they are in the same Nakshatra, then yes the very good Raja Yoga exists otherwise it is only by sign conjunction and just the ordinary Raja Yoga found in BPHS applies.
Your 3rd point - About Venus and Saturn neither owns a trine so again the condition that I listed does not apply which is to combine a trine with a kendra. It does not even quality for the normal Raja Yoga by sign conjunction let alone for consideration of Raja Yoga of conjunction by sign and nakshatra.
Your 4th point - Moon trikona lord in 1st is good but is it in a Nakshatra ruled by a trine lord. For Scorpio that is not the case unless the Moon happens to be in Vishahka ruled by Jupiter which is a trinal lord. Again you have to check which Nakshatra your Moon is in in order to be considered for the very good Raja Yoga condition which I have listed ie. involving being placed in a Nakshtra ruled by a trina lord otherwise only an ordinary Raja Yoga exist involving a combination of trine lord placed in a kendra Bhava or vice versa.

Hi Khoo:
I got your point, thanks.
1st point - Rahu in Budha's Nakshatra and aspected by Budha : Neither your Rahu nor Mercury are trina lords. Only Rahu is a quadrant lord. The combination of trinal with kendra lords is not there.
I wrote this based on one of the posts above where you said, rahu when aspected by the planet in whose sign it is in, is strengthened.
2nd point Jupiter a kona lord with Sun a kendra lord - They may be in the same sign but are they in the same Nakshatra? If they are in the same Nakshatra, then yes the very good Raja Yoga exists otherwise it is only by sign conjunction and just the ordinary Raja Yoga found in BPHS applies.
Yes, they are in different nakshatra, but sun 10th lord is in moon 9th lord's nakshatra and jupiter 5th lord is in mars 1st lord's nakshatra(also 6th). In that way I thought there is some kendra kona connection.
3rd point - About Venus and Saturn neither owns a trine so again the condition that I listed does not apply which is to combine a trine with a kendra.
Again both representing one kendra houses are in kona lord moon's nakshatra. So some kendra kona connection is there I thougt.
4th point - Moon trikona lord in 1st is good but is it in a Nakshatra ruled by a trine lord. For Scorpio that is not the case unless the Moon happens to be in Vishahka ruled by Jupiter which is a trinal lord. Yes, moon 9th lord in 1st house is again some kendra kona connection I thougt. Of course nakshatra is jyeshta which is ruled by budha 8th and 11th lord.
So there seems some connection. Is it right, then it only leads to ordinary raja yoga, right?
Thank you,
Dev

Re: Grahas in Nakshatras
Hi Dev
1st condition - According to BPHS, only when the nodes are placed in a kendra and aspected by a trinal or kendra lord or conjunct a trinal or kendra lord then does a Raja Yoga exists. This is unlike what is understood by most astrologers or people that if the nodes are in kendra or trinal houses and aspected by a trinal or kendra lord respectively or conjunct by a trinal lor kendra lord repsectively then a Raja Yoga exist. So just by considering sign alone, there is no Raja Yoga on your Rahu.
Since by sign condition it does not satisfy, even if it satisfies the Nakshatra condition it is still not one of conditions listed as an exalted Raja Yoga by me above. The exalted Raja Yoga condition is both Nakahstra AND sign conditon must be satisifed. In fact by Nakshatra condition, this first point also does not apply because Rahu is in Mercury's Nakshatra and Mercury is neither a trinal nor kendra lord.
In my case when I described my chart, mine is a Raja Yoga because Rahu is in a kendra and it combines with Venus which is a kendra lord. It is also aspected by Moon by Yuti which is a kendra/trinal lord. It is also aspected by Jupiter by Dhrishti which is a trinal lord. It is also aspected by Mars by Yuti which is a Yogakaraka. My Rahu is also in an exalted Raja Yoga condition since it is in Saturn's nakshatra, a kendra lord, and Rahu behaves like the Moon which is a trinal/kendra lord so there is some combination of kona/kendra lords.
2nd condition - Yes, you are correct. Your Sun and Jupiter though in a different Nakshatras, but Sun is a kona lord Nakshatra ie. the Moon and Jupiter is in a kendra lord Nakshatra ie. Mars. So the condition satisfied is (b) and not (a) which you mention and said that an exalted Raja Yoga exist because of the conjunction of Sun and Jupiter which is condition (a). They do not saisfy condition (a) but condition (b) which is by aspect and each is placed in the approrpiate Nakshatra (conjunction is a special kind of aspect to use condition (b) parlance). So you could have mentioned about their conjunction AND their placments in the appropriate Nakshatras in the first instance.
3rd condition : Venus and Saturn in Kona Lord's Moon Nakshatra shows they have an exalted Raja Yoga conditon. Again you could have explained that not only are they in conjunction but they are in a trinal lord Nakshatra of the Moon in the first instance so that I will realise condition (b) applies rather than conidtion (a). Because your Venus+Saturn does not satisfy condition (a).
4th condition : You Moon is in Jyestha and not Anuradha means that although there is some kendra kona connection but it is only the normal Raja Yoga found in classical texts. If IN ADDITION, your Moon were to be placed in Anuradha (and not Vishakha which I mentioned earlier, this is my mistake) which is ruled by Saturn a kendra lord, then the kendra/kona connection is there by Nakshatra AND sign. In that case the kendra/kona connection would be stronger and conditioon (b) would then apply.
Thanks.

Thanks Khoo:
So as my understanding goes sun, jupiter conjunction as well as venus saturn conjunction constitute exalted raja yoga through their connections to kona or kendra lords nor through a but through b.
Thank you so much.

Hi Dev
I just realise your Venus+Saturn is not an exalted Raja Yoga condition for the simple fact that by sign alone, it is not a Raja Yoga because there is no kona lord involve ie. Venus is not a kona lord and neither is Saturn. It is only by Nakshatra consideration because they are placed in the Moon's Nakshatra and Moon is a kona lord, then there is a Raja Yoga.
The exalted Raja Yoga condition for the ones which I listed (a) to (d) above necessitates satisfying one of (A) to (C) first. Since your Venus+Saturn does not satisfy one of (A) to (C) first ie. by sign consideration only, even if it satisfies (b) it is not considered a double powerful (exalted) Raja Yoga. It is only by Nakshatra that it satisfies being a Raja Yoga.
Nevertheless it is still a powerful Raja Yoga, your Venus+Saturn conjunction that is, because Nakshatra consideration ONLY is usually stronger than sign consideration ONLY.

Re: Grahas in Nakshatras
Hi Khoo:
Many thanks for that Yes, it is enough that I have a raja yoga. I dont want to be greedy to have a double powerful one.
When I was in my teens, on discussion with an astrologer, the first thing I got to learn was that kendra dasa-trikona antardasha or trikona dasa-kendra antardasha periods are very good for anyone due to the kendratrikona combination representing Vishnu-Lakshmi combination.
Of course, that is the simplest of theories where nakshatra consideration is not there.
Your theory as above involves a deeper insight into astrology and is very interesting.
Have you written any book on astrology? I am sure you can do that, when you are able to dwell so deeply into the subject.

Hi Dev
Huh? Did I hear you correctly? Actually it is not up to you say whether you want a double powerful one or not whether greedy or not. It is either in your chart or not and of course that depends on what is given to you by your past karma. We are in this forum to discuss so that other readers know the exact meaning of what I meant by a double powerful exalted Raja Yoga.
But yes, just a simple good enough kendra-trikona combination is good for anyone.
