Good evening Mr. Astroboy,
I would like to congratulate you on your compilation of the traits of a Nakshatras when afflicted. I would be grateful if you can explain the following,
How do the caste, activity, direction, quality, Nadi, nature, Tatwa, Caste and motivation of a Nakshatra play a part in assessing a horoscope?
Secondly, you have emphasized on the negative traits of a nakshatra on a psychological level. I read this with great interest due to the fact that I am in the medical profession (I am currently doing my P.G. in Psychiatry). One of the reasons I got into Astrology is to try assessing the impact of planets on the human body, specifically the mind.
I would like your opinion on which celestial body plays an important part in manipulation of human lives. Is it the Nakshatra or the Graha. I know this is a tough question to answer, But I would like to get your POV on this.
You have said in the discussion thread that the Lagna and Chandra are the two corner stones that play an important part in deciding how a man behaves. I want to share my research with you to date.
In my humble opinion, you have understated or rather underestimated the role of Budha, the 4th lord and the 5th lord. From the cases I get, I have come to the conclusion that it’s Budha which plays a key role rather than Chandra in affecting ones mental health. Depression is solely induced by Chandra But perversion is Budha based. Budha In my POV should be unaffiliated and strong. I have noticed that Maandi and Gulika with Budha / Chandra are certain to cause perversion to the mind. Gulika /Maandi gives fear of ghosts and spirits, laziness, defilement, fear of being poisoned and mental perversions. It is said “Sarveshaameva khaetaanaam Maandirdsoha prododhika†meaning “Gulika is the most malefic amoungst all the malefic planetsâ€. I am curious to know what Part the Nakshatra plays in mental afflictions and to what extent?
Looking forward to your reply
regards

Good day to you Thirtha,
first of all, thank you for your words of appriciation . Nice of you .
Never have I understated the impact of Budha on a Man intellect. Depression is not solely induced by chandra, It is the afflictions on Chandra that induces depression. I agree that Budha has to be unafflicted and strong . I have no doubts about it . Comming to Gulika and Mandi, I have never understated the effects of Gulika and Mandi on the Moon and Budha . I have seen a horoscope of a person whose Chandra is close to Mandi in the 2nd house . Chandra is his 8th lord . He definitely lacks the scruples and does exactly the opposite of what he talks . He is up to no good most of the time. The nakshatras do play a very very important part in shaping a persons mind. Please read my article, "dark side of the moon" to understand the Nakshatra thread better.

first of all, thank you for your words of appriciation . Nice of you .
I am out of town at the moment. I will go back and then write about what these significations do to the Nakshatra. How do the caste, activity, direction, quality, Nadi, nature, Tatwa, Caste and motivation of a Nakshatra play a part in assessing a horoscope?
The graha is housed in a Nakshatra. The Graha thus absorbs some amount of traits of the Nakshatra. they say, sleep with the dogs and you are bound to catch their fleas . Live with a Pig and you will eventually learn to grunt .These traits are then exhibited through the Graha. In certain cases It is the Nakshatra which can grant strength to a debilitated planet . For example if Ravi is debilitated in Chitra Nakshatra and If Kuja is exalted in the Horoscope, Ravi will fair better than if he would have been say Rahu's Nakshatra or Guru's Nakshatra. These things cannot be seen in Isolation and has to be seen from a birds eye view . For example Take may own horoscope . Shani is in the Nakshatra of Kuja . Kuja is exalted . ( 26 04 1973 - 00.26 - Mangalore ). Thus Shani performs better than normal because if he was in the Nakshatra of Ravi ( Krittika ) he would no doubt be in a exalted planets Nakshatra, but he would be in the 8th lords Nakshatra . So many factors have to be taken in before we can come to a concrete conclusion.Secondly, you have emphasized on the negative traits of a nakshatra on a psychological level. I read this with great interest due to the fact that I am in the medical profession (I am currently doing my P.G. in Psychiatry

Take Marlyn Monroe's horoscope as a example . Her Lagna is in Aslesha . She potrayed herself as a dumb blond bombshell . The american public loved her. But little did they know she was neither Blond nor was she dumb . To fool people ......Its a typical Aslesha trait .

want to add my two cents. 4th house is as important as chandra budha to see the affliction of mind.

Good morning Arunsg ji,
Its interesting that you have brought up the combination of Chandra and Budha . Seems like the Mind and the thinking mind cannot get along at all . For your information DR B.V.Raman has considered Guru as the Gnanakaraka and the Vidhyakaraka . His daughter Mrs Gayatri Devi considers Budha as the sole Vidhyakaraka. It is true that a weak budha can result in a stunted mind. It also shows a lack of education. I think the Mind does not want to lear anything and is at bliss when it is in Ignorance. Hence the mutual enemity between Chandra and Budha. ( This is offcourse, apart from the Mythological reasons )
.

Good day to you Thirtha!
Firstly I [ & others here too] are glad to have you here. I'm sure we will all benefit from your unique mixture of medical and astrological knowledge.
I'll leave out the education part for the moment....& concentrate on the mind.
To paraphrase Svoboda:
Moon : receptivity, memory. In essence, Perception /feeling.
Mercury: analysis, wit, rationality
Jupiter: Wisdom
I haven't seen Astroboy back on this thread, so I'll try and write down in a few sentences a short summary of a multi-hour discussion on Moon and Budha.
Coming to a mythological perspective, we must remember that ALL Nakshatras are "wives" of the Moon. That makes Chandra the first & most imp player in the realm of mind.
One unrelated, but probably relevant example : Bread = wheat [ budha] + Yeast [ Guru] + water [ chandra] + heat [ Sun, or lagna lord]
Another example : Chandra is the perception of the world. An afflicted moon can cause a murder of passion. Afflicted Merc can cause a cold-blooded murder.
Moon is the "dil" - not literally, of course.
Merc is the "dimag" .
Please do share your perspective, without compromising on your client relationship of course!

Check this horoscope out
Male
Feb 03 1946

Mangalore .
No 1 procrastinator. One friend of his called him "Python". Slow to stir, lazy, relaxed, and wont move a finger until his hair is on fire. See how many planets are in passive Nakshatras . 6 planets are in Passive Nakshatras and the lagna is in a balanced nakshatra . Kuja the significator of the 3rd house ( Initiative and action ) is in a passive Nakshatra in the 10th house. 10th lord is again in a passive nakshatra . If he tells you that he will meet you at 9, he appears at 11. I think you get the picture .

Mili, I am just thinking, some times destiny is indeed pre destined . Sometimes no horoscope can indicate a fate such as this. Fate can plays cruel games . A lady was murdered in Mangalore 2 days back. The daughter of the woman was also killed. see how fate plays its games. The child went to school that morning as usual, but during the course of the morning, she grew sick with a fever . The teacher sent the girl home . The killer/s struck in the afternoon. Normally the girl would have been at school, but as luck would have it, she was at home that fateful day. The killers killed her since she was a eye witness to the episode. Howzzat

Then again, may be we dont know combinations for murder . I was just going through some combination for injuries / death caused by weapons .
there is a specific combination for the same . Its says,
Stomach would get wounded by weapons if Shani is in the lagna without benefic aspects and weak Moon, Sun and Rahu are in conjunction,
or if,
If the birth is in New moon day and Shani Rahu and Chandra are in lagna
or if
If Aries or Scorpio is in lagna, or Navamsha, and Ravi is placed there and weak Moon, Rahu and Budha are in Leo.
( The girl was knifed in the stomach.)

Dear learned members..
While going thru the two threads created by Astro boy on Nakshatras, I came across this term 'passive' Nakshatras somewhere..Would anyone here please categorize as to which all nakshatras come under passive ones..and which are the active ones?
Also, how would be the combination of Mrigashira Moon and Revati Lagna (Female native)
Thanks..

If any one is intrested, here is a horoscope of a lady who died in a bus accident . I do not know when it happened though. My old guru gave me this horoscope. He says death happened during Rahu dasha - Shani bukthi . The Bus ran over her face and she died on the spot.
