Yes, one way to look at this is that it's a loss (12th) of upheavals and change (8th) so it's a gain to have the 8th lord in the 7th - two negatives equal a positive. But the other way to view this is that the dusthana lord does carry some malefic influence wherever it's placed. This is less if it's Jupiter, the great benefic, but is not entirely removed in my opinion. It's malefic influence is further lessened by the benefic aspect from Venus. The other thing however is that the 8th lord brings transformation and as Jupiter it represents growth. This was another reason I felt we could go ahead with this muhurta.

The trick of interpretation is to be able to identify all the factors and learn to weigh their strength of influence. This comes with experience and I don't believe there's any other way to really learn it. Vaughn Paul
