I have saturn retrograde in 8th house of cancer ascendent.

It has indeed been more powerful than a direct motion planet placed is similar situation.

There is nothing good or bad in astrology; the effects of any retrograde planet to do its job gets intensified due to “chesta bala” acquired by a planet.
