Hi all
For all planets we talk of spirutual side e.g. for shani we say it can take you to great spiritual heights. Even if a planet is natural malefic, it's shown to have some spiritual side. Ketu Moksha Karaka, sun is one's soul etc etc
So, I wonder what's with Rahu? People only associate it with illusion, greed, cheating etc
I'd like to know spirituality wise what Rahu can offer?
I know that it mimics the planet it's in conjunction with or the characteristics of the house lord where it's placed...
But is that all to Rahu?
Let us discuss....
The good side of Rahu?

Mythologically speaking, Rahu is the bad demon, Rahu is greedy, etc., but some of the traits that Rahu brings can actually be used for good things if channeled properly. Rahu brings a lot of motivation and drive towards a goal. Many a times, that drive and motivation is towards sometimes rebellious or materialistic, however the fact that a person has drive and motivation is a great asset on its own.
There are so many people in this world who have goals but don't have the drive to pursue it, who don't have the drive to fight for it. And sometimes these people wish for that drive, that hunger, that passion to get closer to their goals. But they naturally do not have it. Now imagine a person who does have that drive, that hunger, that passion, that is something that Rahu can bring. Now imagine if that drive, that hunger, and that passion is used for a good/benevolent/happy goal. Rahu usually doesn't plan for such benevolent goals, but it is definitely possible. Our goals and motives are often influenced by our environment and surroundings. Put a person with a strong Rahu in a good environment, and I think this person might be driven for something good and positive (maybe with games here and there
). But the bottom line is that Rahu can be used for something good because of the drive and passion that it brings. Remember not everyone has drive and passion, which are critical ingredients for success. So if you have some of it from Rahu, be happy and thankful and learn to use it for something good.
P.S. Rahu also likes fame. So someone with Rahu in the 1st house or with the lagna lord may be very happy to pursue a career where they are in the spotlight or they are in front of the camera and getting a lot of attention. There are some people in this world who are scared of getting attention and scared of public speaking, but Rahu isn't. If you have this gift from Rahu, use it and make the best of it.

I agree with Tandav and he is absolutely right about the passion and desire part but this mostly can be too consuming and comes alongside ego, pride, arrogance. It can be difficult for an average person without the knowledge of astrology and Rahu to isolate just the passion part to use this to drive himself and be humble and simple at the same time. I don't think a powerful Rahu can be used to so something good because such a person will harbor some kind of delusion and though he would feel he is doing something for a cause, his actions would be bad. Religious fundamentalists, activists are influenced by Rahu to a great extent. Rahu is incapable of giving spiritual pursuits, that would be Ketu's department. Materialistic, Rahu when conjunct with Guru or Mars in the right house can miraculously lift a person from the gutter and put him in a palace, but only through illegal means. I have seen Guru Rahu conjunction in 4th house, 2nd house and 11th house natives born in slums and living flamboyant lifestyles through corrupt and ill gotten wealth. Often, Jupiter is the lord of either their 7th, 10th or 11th house. Such people have great passion and in order for this passion to be created in the real world, they are often born in poor families and have to go through much hardships and poverty until they hit their Guru or Rahu dasa after which the wealth accumulation starts as the illegal channels of wealth open up. But even though they reach great heights financially, they never feel secure or fit into their present society due to their history and background. They constantly feel the need to do more, acquire more and earn more to prove themselves among their friends and relatives which keeps that passion alive. They make efforts to erase their past and be a new person with their new wealth and try desperately to cover their backgrounds and project themselves as a normal person with a normal occupation and family, but unfortunately their past never leaves them. This fits the story of Rahu standing in line with the Gods by pretending to be one of them to drink the nectar of life.
Rahu alone or conjunct with Mars or Jupiter in 3rd house gives tremendous wealth from efforts. Such wealth is obtained through legal means and hard work and such people come from better backgrounds. Mars or Jupiter often rules their 11th house of gains. They may also gain wealth from their spouse. The point to note is that wherever Rahu gives passion, that passion comes from the desire created by the person's abnormal background, past or family history and this person will make all efforts to create an image of normalcy for the world and try desperately to fit in.

Rahu and Ketu are incredibly misunderstood. Rahu and Ketu represent the dualism inherent in reality. They both have their inherent strengths and weaknesses, as they approach reality from the opposite side of the spectrum. Often times with Rahu and Ketu, people will attempt to explain them with keywords. For example, Rahu is often linked to the term desire. Ketu is often linked to surrender. This, though, is far from the actuality of the nodes. Dualism implies that there is an observer, and something that is being observed. Many spiritual paths attempt to come to the realization of a false dichotomy between the observer and the observed. Whatever the case, this battle is actually seen through the nodes. Rahu represents the observed, Ketu represents the observer. We typically want what we observe, but we are locked into our natural observatory self(Ketu). In more pronounced scenarios, Ketu can often feel like a stain that the person cannot get rid of. Ketu is like those deep recesses of the self that can sometimes feel like a prison we are trapped within, and impact every observation we make. Ketu is our subsconscious lens. Rahu is viewed through Ketu. Rahu is like the candy store for a kid. We want to experience all of the different sides of Rahu... always attempting to transform into it. There is usually desire present, but it is more complex than just calling it desire. The process is the same though for everyone... the individual is trying to let go of Ketu and actually transform into Rahu. The actual result though is far more tricky to discern.
Long story short, if Rahu's Lord is well positioned, then Rahu is going to do a good job in making progress(Ironically though, this entire process can be held back by Ketu even if Rahu's lord is strong). The actual relationship between the nodal lords in the chart(angles, location, etc) are incredibly important to understanding what the ultimate outcome is going to be.

Dear Abruslep and Sanjit
Thanks for the input. I do know someone highly spiritual and righteous and non-egoistic at the same time who has Guru Rahu conjoined in 9th house in Pisces (cancer ascendant), aspecting Ketu in 3rd house.
The only thing is that the native unites people of all religions and faith and talks about unity among all faiths (oneness). So, nothing negative of that Rahu in fact Rahu is blessed by Jupiter's contact here but also Jupiter is blessed by Rahu, I'd say cos Rahu loves foreign things and if it weren't for this conjunction, the person would be only preaching one religion, not unity among all faiths/god's etc. So, in this case at least Rahu is not acting selfishly.
But I'm curious of Rahu's placements in other bhavas.

Another thing I'd like to note about Rahu, is that a lot of astrologers state that Rahu is kind of like this big explosion of success followed by a collapse. My experience with seeing how Rahu actually works is far more subtle than this. From what I've gathered, Rahu delays in early life because the Rashi of Rahu tends to be highly intellectualized for the individual. Over time the individual learns to let go of whatever the domain of Ketu is... which in turn allows the individual to finally act out and become it's rahuvian intellectualizations. Whether this is sustainable depends on the lord. A good example of this is Donald Trump. Trump has Ketu and Moon together in the 4th and Rahu/Sun in the 10th. If you've ever watched earlier interviews on Trump, he used to actually be quite shy. Tony Robbins once said that he invited Trump to speak at one of his events, and Trump was actually terrified of doing it. He had to gradually transition from the private to the public sphere. When Rahu finally reaches the threshold, it's kind of like a volcano erupting. The individual has kind of intellectualized things for so long in a particular area, that they just finally decide to be hyper-aggressive and actually embody the domain of Rahu(Symbolized by the individual letting go and the nodes beginning to actually balance). Of course, this is probably not sustainable over the long run, but could possibly be with a strong dispositor of Rahu. If Ketu's lord is strong, this process may occur earlier in lfie.

I can give you my experience of having a Rahu in the 9th in Scorpio (debilitated).
If one were to read predictions for Rahu in the 9th and in Scorpio you'll find nothing but negativity, but I've found that having it debilitated in my chart I've been able to gain some insights into the 'positive' sides of the nodes.
I absolutely love researching on occult subjects, spirituality, reading religious texts and pretty much anything to do with Scorpio. I'm very fascinated with death and I see it as an event that's fundamentally neutral in nature (the other side of the coin to the life, the yang to the yin and so on..). I also am able to 'see through the BS' when it comes to people and events to a good degree.
I'm able to identify manipulative people very easily (came with experience though) because having my Rahu in Scorpio, it amplifies the manipulative qualities of the sign BUT the fact that it's debilitated makes me not use it for fulfilling my material desires.
If you read about Rahu in the 9th you'll see things like people being spiritual to benefit materially or use spirituality and religion as a 'mask' (hypocrisy), but interestingly enough, and I attribute this to Rahu's debilitation and being in a comfortable position despite being debilitated, I have a principle of NEVER making any money from anything related to the 9th house and/or Scorpio. People have told me to become an astrologer for instance, but I just don't feel right charging money for something that I consider to be pure and Divine and something I feel should be freely accessible to everyone.
The rebellious nature of Rahu in the 9th remains, but the debilitation has made me walk away from situations that would have benefited me materially, but were against my principles. So instead of being a 'rebel without a cause', I rebel against what I perceive to be hypocrisy and injustice.
Rahu in the 9th is also said to be preachy, but as a principle I never speak about religion or spirituality before 'feeling' someone or a situation out first. This had to be learned through experience though..
Overall, I really don't think Rahu is as negative as people make it out to be. Even if you have it debilitated or in the 9th house as in my case which most traditional astrologers would consider to be the worst possible placement haha (oh and did I mention it's also in Jyestha nakshatra, another favourite for astrologers haha), it's positive aspects I feel can be gauged better by the relationship it has to your lagnesh (compound relationships).
If you for instance have Rahu in the 1st in Taurus exalted, and Venus is decently placed I'd be willing to bet that the person would be quite wealthy. A real life example is Dr. Dre. Rahu in the 1st in Taurus exalted. Rags to riches story par excellence.
I try to live by the rule of 'anything can be good or bad depending on the situation'. Kala desha patra too.

Wow Majestik loved reading your experience + explanation
Someone close to me has Rahu in 9th house too conjunct with Jupiter in Pisces (cancer ascendant). I think Rahu is in Revati. Degree wise Jupiter holds the lowest degree and being in its own house plus the 9th bhava, it rules the conjunction.
And so, guess what...the person is a true mystic ajd a spiritual leader, who brings people of all faith and backgrounds to reveal the truth..she hates when people say that their religion is the best

My sister has Rahu in the first house in the sign of Libra and she loves being the center of attention! She is obsessed with her looks and looking her best. I’m the complete opposite with my Rahu being in the 2nd house in the sign of Scorpio, I just live in my mind lol.
I’ve also heard that wherever Rahu is placed in your chart, that’s what you are here to focus on in this life, and wherever Ketu is, that’s what you focused on in your past life.

@Nora, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I agree with the person you mentioned. The whole 'all religions speak of the one God', as cliche as it sounds, is actually very true. The Gospel of Luke (which is beautiful by the way) for instance, is nothing but Vedanta for instance, except it's not called that because again, kala desha patra.

Hey Majestik
A question. In Guru Rahu conjunction, if Guru is well placed and controls the conjunction (like the chart I talked about) Rahu will behave or imitate like the Guru? Am I right? This is what I've understood from the text in different websites so I'm not sure.
So, is this behaviour of Rahu considered good or bad?
Good influence on Rahu, then Rahu becomes Good use of energy. Or does it still show up it's malefic effects?

I've found that when it comes to the nodes, Rahu tends to amplify whatever energies it is receiving (in this case Jupiter's) and Ketu tends to concentrate it (refine it almost).
Most traditional astrologers consider Guru+Rahu to be a highly negative yoga (Guru Chandal yoga), but I feel like as with anything, there's positives and negatives. So to answer your question I feel like what may happen is that the person might be genuinely spiritual and have some incredible insights in this area, but they may come off as somewhat pompous in their spiritual beliefs. I'm gonna go off on a limb here and say that this person most likely uses their spiritual knowledge as a way of seeking attention to oneself to some degree.
This is not to say that this person isn't spiritual, as Rahu's obsessive nature will keep pushing the native to dig deeper and deeper, and in a spiritual sign like Pisces in a spiritual nakshatra like Revati with Jupiter she definitely has a lot of promise in that area of life, but Rahu just likes being noticed.
Another way of putting it might be that her spiritual beliefs bring her fame.
On the other hand, if Ketu was to be with Jupiter in Pisces, the combination would express the 'stereotypical' nature of Pisces a lot better. The native may have incredible insights, gifts and talents in this area, but would either not give too much value to it since it comes so naturally to them and/or they would keep their deep insights private.
So to sum up, Rahu will try to 'climb the ladder' as it always does wherever it goes, so the inherent desire nature is still there, but as it is in Pisces and with Jupiter, this ascent will be towards something that can be considered positive (spirituality).
I will say this though, the person probably has very strong escapist tendencies.
My 2c.

Hey Majestik
Thanks for the insight. Now, let's say that this person does bring fame and fortune. The thing is if that can benefit others then what's wrong? Like if heart is pure and Jupiter controlling the conjunction, then even if Rahu does bring fame, then that could mean that her spiritual work was meant to spread among people and help those people too right? Because, after all if someone has innovative insights or divine insights and they keep that to themselves then what's the point right? Only if we market it or sell the idea can people buy it and adopt it, which may not be bad as long as Rahu doesn't act selfishly.
Now, her ketu is in her 3rd house of communications aspected by Rahu and Jupiter. She has a tendency to withdraw sometimes from everything and become isolated. But sometimes she comes and delivers speeches on spiritual subjects, writes books etc. If asked if she likes it, she said she doesn't have any desire and would rather go away somewhere far than be doing any of this
So her inherent nature is that she is not after fame or money.

Hey Majestik
Can you perhaps have a look if her career seems to be in the area of spirituality or something to do with this? 9 March 87, Chennai 15.15 hrs. I don't know how to connect rasi and D10 etc. I'm still a learner
Kind regards

Oh I completely agree. Absolutely nothing wrong with being famous for being a spiritual person, infact I feel it's a great thing!
I took a look at her chart, and before I get into this, please do keep in mind that I too am a student of Jyotish and my knowledge of the subject couldn't even hold a candle to actual Jyotishis, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
At first glance, she seems like a beautiful soul and I can completely see why people see her as an authority on spiritual subjects as her entire chart seems to be revolving around it! Ascendant lord Moon in the 12th house while the lord Mercury is in the 8th with Sun, Rahu and Jupiter in Pisces, Saturn in Scorpio etc. etc...
Now in her rasi chart, her 10th lord Mars is quite powerful in its mooltrikona sign, and being a yogakaraka planet for Cancer, this is a very good thing in terms of career.
However, the D-10 paints a very peculiar picture. 4 of her planets (Moon, Sun, Mercury and Jupiter) are debilitated while Venus is vargottama.
Now initially I was quite confused as to what this might mean, but then something you posted made everything connect. When she said that 'she doesn't have any desire and would rather go away somewhere far than be doing any of this', that actually seems to be the truth. I feel like she honestly doesn't have much interest (if at all) when it comes to attaining material success when it comes to a career. Infact, I feel like she would find pursuing any sort of career, regardless of whether it is based on spirituality or not, to be a massive burden more than anything else.
Now this is not to say that she will not have a career or not have money or anything like that, rather I see her as someone who lets God provide for them and has enough faith in the universe to provide what she needs, when she needs it. She also seems like a very non-materialistic person so I would assume her needs are not much and so the universe is happy to provide.
So I personally feel like she'll be happiest if she continues as she has been. I have a hunch that she's more than aware of the fact that God will provide whatever she needs, as her Jupiter (9th lord), not only is quite powerful in Pisces in it's own sign, it's also in Pushkara Bhaga! Having the 9th lord in it's own sign in Pushkara bhaga is a massive blessing in itself.
In more mundane terms, I feel like she's a hippie in the truest sense. A true starchild haha. Give her my best because she truly seems like a kind soul.

Hey Majestik
Thanks for the analysis. What you are saying seems to align with many things other astrologers have said on this forum, when I asked them
Just a couple of doubts if you don't mind clarifying -
1. In D10 you say four planets are debilitated although an expert here said that 2 or 3 of the 4 that are debilitated are neecha banga (can you check which of these 4 are? I remember that person saying Jupiter and Saturn and perhaps sun?) In D10 Mars is in 4rh house aspecting the 10th house. What does it mean? (In rasi it is 10th lordl, yogKaraka and placed in Aries creating Ruchaka Yoga?)
2. What is Pushkara bhaga? I mean could you please explain it briefly? Cos I tried googling it but I'm not able to follow what you said. Jupiter is in PB?
Kind regards
Nora

Nora

1. Divisional charts don't have houses, nakshatras, longitudes, aspects, etc. This might come as a shock to you (it did to me), but divisional charts are only to be used to check the strength of the planets by sign placement to get a better understanding of how a planet is influencing the area of life it rules in the rasi. Hence, there can be no neechabhanga here. Neechabhanga as far as divisionals being involved can only apply if the division in question has a planet placed in a better sign than in the rasi (for instance, if Mars is in Cancer in the rasi but in Capricorn in dasamsa, you could say that there is some compensation for Mars' debilitation in the rasi when it comes to the native's career).
2. Pushkaramsas are ranges of degrees in certain signs in the rasi chart where if a planet is placed, it results in the planet being placed in a benefic navamsa which empowers the planet to do much good, regardless of whatever afflictions it may have. Pushkara bhagas are a more intense form of this where a planet has to be placed in an exact degree in the rasi chart in certain signs (as opposed to being placed within a certain range with pushkaramsas), where the planet becomes exceptionally auspicious.
Jupiter is in pushkara bhaga, yes. She also has Sun (2nd lord), Venus (4th and 11th lord) and Mandi in pushkaramsa. Jupiter being the natural significator of wealth, being the 9th lord of fortune and the 6th lord (6th house/lord also relates to receiving charity), being so auspicious in her chart will definitely ensure that she is taken care of when it comes to the natural and functional significations of Jupiter.
The original source for the concept of pushkaramsa and pushkara bhaga is the Jataka Parijata. JHora has this option btw.
Hope this helps.

I have 11th house rahu {taurus, same sign in navamsa} for cancer ascendent, venus is multrikona in 4th house conjunct with Yoga karak mars.
Rahu gets awake during 42nd year, since then I am forced to see a different world.
I do not get a salary from my employer, they have entrapped me in legal disputes.
I am in the process of enriching deeper knowledge about things around us.
There is no loss to me in the long term, in the short term however rahu seem to have turned everything upside down.
The distinct quality of rahu is that it is always agitated and hungry, it is upon the native to keep the beast under leash.

I will say this though, the person probably has very strong escapist tendencies.
My 2c.
