What are the signs of widow/widower hood?

Curious to see if I can find certain signs that indicate sudden loss of spouse (I don't mean people who have been married 50+ years - in those cases someone has to go first). What are the planetary combinations that might provide some clues to losing a spouse at a relatively early phase of life? Also, are the planets combinations of widowhood and divorce the same? (as they both mean an irreversible separation)

Hi Folks,
Back on the forum after a long time. Might not be around a great deal.
Was going through the lady's chart(Scorpion Anuradha rising), but didn't find too many red herrings except that 7th Lord Venus is in deep debilitation(which might be case with lots of charts, for that matter). What else brought about such unfortunate fate?
Kindly help me identify points which I might have missed out on.

Mostly 7th Lord in 8th House or 8th Lord in 7th sign or severe affliction of 7th Lord are tell-tale signs of separation from spouse . Hope it helps.

I think 7th lord venus in conjunction with sun (no 1 seperating planet)however it is not very tight conjunction

and may be due to saturn malefic aspect to 7th house (10th drishti)

and offcourse deb venus


may b all these reason for death of spouse or seperation from spouse

Thanks for replying everyone. So these conditions apply to any and all marriages a person has had? Or is there a difference is planets impacting the first and then the subsequent marriages?

there are no specific rules...but some general signs...and they are more prominently marked in a woman's chart.
8th is called the mangalsthan for a woman.. and multiple of folowing conditions fullfilled simultaneously could be indicators for widowhood.

--a natural malefic in the 8th house.
--should have trurned a rank malefic bvy being innimical / afflicted / combust debilitated in the 8th house..
--AND/OR multiple natural malefics in the 8th or aspecting the 8th
-- AND association of the 8th house with the 12th whihc is the house of losses.......loss of husband is a BIG loss in Indian culutre
--AND many time in addtion an affliction to Surya or Jupiter throuhg conjunction with a malefic like Gulika or Ketu....or in debility or combust ( applies to Jup obviosuly)
I have found sun to be the karak for husband in many a women when the husband is the more dominating partner and in other cases Jupiter.
--and the running period(s) wmight be 6-12-8 combos with transitory footprints of 6-12-8 combos on sensitive points of the chart will be the "trigger" should the natal chart have those conditions.

that said readers should not jump in panic if they see some of the conditions in known charts...because thes are some general conditions.
there are many mitigating factors such as aspects of benefics........footprints of trinal houses/ lords...strength of the navamsa whihc is "the chart" for marital matters.......absence of the "trigger" conditons even if natal chart shows those signs.

Having written the above I noted the data of the unfortunate woman posted by Howzatt...and cast the chart. and following are my observations

---8th has shani_ket conjunction
--shani is innimical and further afflcited by aspect of bitter enemy Moon and innimical rahu is also aspecting shani and the 8th house.

--the husband karak Jupiter has gone in debility.

--8th Lord Me is in 12th house

--the death occured in the Ma-Me period.....that is the period of planest seated in houses 6-12i houses and lording 6-8 house..

--Rahu was transitting on that day over the Rasi lagna and also Trimsamsa Lagna ( often brings miseries and misfortunes as a standlone criteria)...dasanath and 6L Mars was in a violent conjucntion with retro shani aspecting titself in the 8th....

all that said it is still very very dificult to predict an event like this......and rather convenient to analyse retrospectively.

A definite event occurs when all of the below indicates the same results. Remedies will not work in such a case. If two out of the below are indicative of the results then the native may or may not experience and Remedies will work.

1. Yoga
2. Dasha
3. Gochar

1. Does Yoga for widow hood exists? Yes

Yoga : If the lords of 7th and 8th join together and fall in the 12th, and the 7th has evil
aspect there will be widowhood very early in life.

Lord of 7th Venus is in exchange with Lord of 8th Mercury i.e. a strong relationship exists. The parivartan involves 12th house. The exchange is in Navamsa too (i.e. the parivartan is even stronger and has a say in marriage - Navamsa). 7th house is aspected by Saturn (evil planet). No benefic counteracting aspect.

There is a partial Yoga occuring from Moon but one Yoga is enough especially when its stronger.

Jaimini Yoga: Neeche daranasaha. If the 2nd from upapada falls in Neechamsa or has the conjunction of a Neecha or debilitated planet there will surely be death to wife in that evil period.

Now whether one calculates Upapada with/without longitudes the sloka is true in both cases as Venus is neecha and in neechamsa.

2. Was the concerned Dasha running? Yes

Dasha: Mercury - Mercury

Mercury is the 8th (mangalsthan) lord in 12th house so evil results are indicative. It is also creating a Vipreet raj yoga through which she would have gained (Spouse's assets) after loss. This yoga is also fulfilled.

Chara Dasha: Leo - Taurus

I have little Jaimini knowledge but it doesn't look it would happen. At least not in this Dasha.

3. Where the same results indicative of the gochar? No

Gochar is seen from Moon. Mercury was transiting 6th from the Moon which is a good transit and Ashtakavarga score is 6 - good.

No idea about Gochar application in Jaimini.

There are many finer indications of the unfortunate event yet I feel it could have been avoided with proper remedies and depending on the marriage muhurtam.

Looks like the marriage was done in Pushayami which is not recommended. Of course the actual Lagna needs to be seen for full muhuratam results.

Generally astrologers are baffled when it comes to differentiating between separation/divorce versus widowhood.

What I have observed is : there needs to be exchange/conjunction/aspect - well, some definite connection between 7th, 8th..and then 12th; Rahu or Ketu besides 10th or 9th or 1st..and 4th.

Unlike generally thought, Saturn or Mars may or may not be as much involved as much as Sun or Jupiter.

More often than not, the chart will show bleak marriage chances or no marriage at all.
