I've began to view planets in their own houses and planets in their exaltation houses much differently. Most consider exalted planets to be of higher strength, though I'm not exactly sure I completely agree with that. I understand the whole inclination towards that viewpoint, but I think there is a very distinct difference between planets in their own house and planets that are exalted. They both have different strengths and weaknesses.
The signs and their have something very basic in common with each other. These signs reflect the internal essence of the planets that own them. The majority of the planets have both a lunar and a solar lord(except for the Sun and moon which each represent the whole solar/lunar dichotomy). If a planet's dispositor is weak, it creates a flaw in the chain information. For example if Venus is in the sign of Pisces, but Jupiter is in the sign of Capricorn... this will create a problem. Venus will still have the boundary free, go with the wind lifestyle that is typically common with those with Venus in the sign of Pisces. The big picture viewpoint of the native will be very materialistic though, and as such the individual will not allow oneself to expand into different terrains... as such cannot take advantage of the free flowing viewpoint of their existence. Still there is a natural strength adherent in this independent of the lord. The individual still has a free flowing style that allows them to adapt within the confines of the world that they've created. This is what exalted planets do. They adapt with the very least resistance. For example, an exalted mars will do whatever it takes to succeed, even possibly sacrificing it's own individualism in order to accomplish it's goal. Whereas mars in the sign of Aries will stick to whatever it feels resounds within the self. Exalted planets have a more superficial, goal orientated nature to them. There is an almost anti-personal... adapt to whatever the world throws at them vibe. I could almost that the exalted planets are almost a different type of lord for a sign... a more external goal focused one.
What exactly does this mean for neechabhanga planets though? Say you have two different scenarios. In one you have Sun in Libra with Venus. In the other you have Sun in Libra with Saturn. Venus is our internal filter for the external word, and when in Libra the individual views the entire world through the prism of balance. A neechabhanga Sun in libra will have a form of expression that is dependent on Venus's ability to discern balance. All of its actions will come out of what it views as being balance. "I will do this, because it will bring balance". Saturn is not a very personal planet it all, it is what we work and strive towards. There is no internal source of balance with Saturn in libra,it is trying to ascertain balance externally.... creating deals, creating laws that are bipartisan. Saturn in libra is trying to create a state that it feels that all ideas have equal input. Saturn in libra may sacrifice it's own personal inclinations, and may actually do things that the person with Venus in Libra considers counter-intuitive. The Venus in Libra individual may do things that the Saturn in Libra considers egotistical or selfish. They are both strengthening influences on the neecha Sun though. One comes from a more internal basic position(Venus in Libra), whereas the other comes from a more adaptive external conditions.

Very interesting abruslep.
I want to take an example of Jupiter in Aquarius where Brihat Jataka says it is exalted.
Now Saturn in Aquarius is trying to collect diverse forms of knowledge from the mundane and spiritual world through various means like scriptures for the latter nd scientific techniques for the former through model building and hypothesis testing.
But Jupiter says that all knowledge between heaven and earth (the 1st two steps of Vishnu in the story of his incarnation via the dwarf), can be known if you have the dtermination to move your chakra energy to the crown (Vishnu's third step is placed on the head of Bali) and once you know that even spiritual death cannot even overtake you (Bali become Yama as lord of the underworld because Vishnu was please with him).

Or in other words you experience
Sat (Existence) Chit (Consciousness) Ananda (Bliss).

abruslep,
This is an interesting viewpoint. I always thought that it was debilitated planets that are superficial and materialistic. For example, Venus in Virgo in my understanding could make someone way too materialistic and businesslike about marriage/relationships than what is rightfully needed.
Another idea I have come across is that planets is good dignity (exalted, own sign) have a way of functioning that is in line with their truth/dharma. For example, Mars in Aries is strong, can go after what it wants and achieve goals but only when these goals benefit the larger society (Saturn) that these become worthy goals to achieve. So I guess Mars in Capricorn makes Mars energy work for the greater good. Anyways, this is just my viewpoint.

Planets in own signs tend to have an inner focus.
Planets in exalted signs have an external focus. They think big.
Planets in debilitated signs are simply out of their comfort zone. They need to push and heave just to achieve ordinary results and sometimes they miss the mark.

How does this relate to the concept of Karako Bhavo Nashya? Signification of the house destroys the house if it's placed there.
Just want to take your view on this chart for instance...where Jupiter in own house with Rahu.
Now, this person is a Yogi, my spiritual Guru...so my question is how does Jupiter exaltation or debilitation plays a role in her extreme spirituality?
Kind regards
Nora

Which bhava is Jupiter placed in for your spiritual guru? I know from your assertion that his Jupiter is in his own sign conjuncting Rahu.
I take it when you say "house", you mean "sign". But how the bhava his Jupiter is in?

Hi Khoo
My spiritual Guru is a female not male.
She is a mystic and brings together people from all religions and cultures to understand how to attain self realisation (liberation)....a lot can be said about my Guru
But perhaps you can see her horoscope and clarify something's
1. I'm curious how she is so spiritual and mystical if Jupiter is in own sign and I heard from somewhere that it makes Jupiter lose his power (Karako Bhavo Nashya)? So, in this case, she shouldn't have been this spiritual right?
2. Can you clarify whether this person's spiritual efforts will be visible to the masses in the future? She writes books, does charity, gives public discourses on liberation. Is her future career in spirituality? She has a PhD in psychology subject and had a career in a hospital prior to 2015. She has also been into sports.

Also mars in own house and Venus in 7thbhava so again are they destroyed?
Someone pointed that ruchaka yog is cancelled as mars in own sign of exaltation?
What about budh Aditya yoga is that there in this chart?
Also parivartana yog? Can you explain if it's there and how? Is it because mercury (12th lord) placed in 8th house? Or someone mentioned in navamsa chart parivartana seen between 9th and 12th lord. I didn't quite get it.
Could you please clarify all the doubts? I'm learning. Sorry for so many questions
Thanks and regards

I have one more doubt...here, Jupiter aspects Rahu am I right? And Rahu will also aspect Jupiter right?
So, how do we know which of these two finally has the upper hand? Do we then look at degrees? I read somewhere that the planet with thelowest degree is more powerful, so in this case, Jupiter is more powerful than Rahu?
So, Rahu will be under the control of Jupiter right?
She interprets the scriptures of other religions, cultures etc. Sp, this is due to Rahu liking foreign things and being in 9th he explodes the knowledge on foreign religions and cultures?
But here saturn is aspecting 9th house? So, how will that impact Jupiter and Rahu?
Kind regards

My two cents:
K.N. Rao says that in order to succeed in the modern world, it is ideal to have one or two debilitated planets because exaltation shows the maturity of the soul. Debilitation shows that we lack in the area.
Going by that maxim, what you stated is the reverse of what K.N. Rao said? Or, am I not understanding?
When you look at charts of ordinary businesspeople or even of big money people, there are debilitated planets or NBRY. Even Bill Gates' has Sun debilitated forming NBRY. And he is a philanthropist and his business and the money he earned simply served as a vehicle for him to make his contribution to the world in terms of dharma and karma. Technology and philanthropy for him.
I do think that exaltation is not related to material success. Own house or mooltrikona would be more equipped there. Even better are Yogas, whether the Mahapurush Yogas, the Raj Yogas, Vipreet Raj Yogas, the Yogas formed by Moon/Sun, etc., etc.
Here's another observation:
If planets are in own sign, mooltrikona, or exaltation, but are not overtly forming traditional Raj Yogas, I believe that the success or fame of that person is only a by-product of his real purpose of birth, which could be anything and would sprout out at the right time (dashas).
In Bill Gates' chart, he has Bhadra Mahayoga, but surprisingly, he doesn't have a traditional Kendra-Trikona Raja Yoga that is ever so dominant (trinal lords are conjunct though). But his AK is exalted (Sat) and AmK (Ven) is in the own house and acc. to Jaimini, the conjunction/aspects of AK and AmK is the highest order of Raj Yoga. They are conjunct in his Rashi (Karakamsha) as well as Navamsha (Swamsa)!
Never mind, I think material success has more to do with Karakamsha than other points in the chart.
