2nd House Good Or Bad

2nd house has been credited by BPHS as being neutral. Whether its good effects or bad effects ripen in the chart (points to be discussed in the post later on) depend on whether the 2nd lord is associated with another powerful lord (whether Uppachaya, Kendra, Kona etc. depending on the usual way how we determine a lord is powerful like whether it associates with another kendra lord, is it well placed by sign etc. In this respect 8th and 12th lords can also be considered neutral, although 8th is a somewhat dubious neutral not recognised by Parasara as such but I think by some other scriptures).

So what makes the 2nd lord bad? Well as we all know it is a maraka lord. It is more powerful as a death inflicting lord than even the 7th lord, the other maraka lord, even though the 7th lord is a kendra lord. Why?

The life giving houses are the 1st lord (it is the birth house), the 8th lord (the life force of the 1st which is the birth house), the 3rd lord which is 8th of the 8th and the 10th lord oversees the 1st house of birth. Note that 3rd being 8th of the 8th is a life giving house as both negatives make one positive.

All the 12th to these houses of 1st, 3rd, 8th and 10th, are potential maraka lords since 12th denotes zilch of the things signified by the house following it. (I did mention that 12th to a house A signifies something that is defined uniquely pertaining to that house A but in the case of life giving, it could be life in another form, but here we are interested only in the life of a human being, so we consider it as death, if we are not given birth to a human form).

But 9th being 12th to the 10th does not signify death simply because 9th is the 9th to the 1st, that which sustains life. So 9th is not a death inflicting house even though it is 12th to the 10th.

Now to determine which is more death inflicting, the 7th lord or the 2nd lord or the 12th lord?

12th denotes trying to ignore our bodily presence and only concentrate on the spirituality within us. It is a death like feeling but 12th is not so much concerned in destroying the life force within us, and thus it is the least powerful of the 3 remaining death-inflicting houses.

Now we are left with 7th and the 2nd.

But 7th is 10th of the 10th, 7th to the 1st ie. giving mutual support to the birth provided its help is properly enlisted and therefore there are some vitiating factors in considering the 7th house as a powerful maraka lord.

But the 2nd although 7th to the 8th ie. it can promote the life giving force through proper yoga statures (2nd rules bodily movements), it is 6th to the 10th that is running down the overseeing capability of the 10th with regards to the birth of the 1st. The 2nd is also 2nd to the 1st of birth, meaning if the 2nd is too powerful, out of balance in terms of food or speech or the way we take care of our nourishment etc. would also hamper the life giving force of the 1st.

Hence the 2nd is a more powerful maraka lord than the 7th.

Now the 2nd lord is very good too because of things it rules? Like food, good speech, spiritual etc.

Let's look at the 12 dwardashamsa portions (each dwardashamsa is of 2.5 degrees of the sign overlaying the respective bhava, here it is the 2nd bhava) that come under the 2nd house.

1st dwardashamsa - Family (Kutumbha)

2nd dwardashamsa - Wealth, Riches

3rd dwardashamsa - Eyes (can be used to attract partners or even for advertisements, also good eyesight enables one to forge ahead in career as we need to read the fine print etc.)

4th dwardashamsa - Education, tongue (here the education is continuous that goes on all day through our five senses)

5th dwardashamsa - Landed Property

6th dwardashamsa - Truthfulness, Treasures

7th dwardashamsa - Acquaintance with Shastras, Scriptural Knowledge

8th dwardashamsa - Alertness, Concentration

9th dwardashamsa - Notion, Motives

10th dwardashamsa - Possession of Gold and the Like, Precious Metals

11th dwardashamsa - The 9 kinds of precious stones, gems and jewels

12th dwardashamsa - Yogic Siddhi, Mystic Perfection (even the 5th house only covers things like Yoga Bhyasa which is yogic practice, repetition).

So the things covered by the 2nd house can be considered par excellence.

So in a chart, if all your life giving houses are strong ie. the 3rd, 8th and 1st are strong (10th is immaterial when talking about the 2nd usurping the strength of the life giving houses since 2nd is the 5th of the 10th, so its impact on the 10th is actually good, BUT because it is the 5th of the 10th rather than 9th of the 10th, some time passages need to be sit out before the assistance of the 2nd to the 10th is rendered), THEN the 2nd would not prove to have such a pernicious deleterious effect on our lives.

Note that in my 1st post in this thread, I said that 2nd is the 6th to the 10th.

In my next to last post in this thread, I mentioned 2nd is the 5th to the 10th.

The latter is the correct one as you all know. Just wanted to highlight to you readers.

Also 7th is the 5th to the 3rd.

So weighing the stack of cards for the 7th and for the 2nd, the 2nd still has a greater markara effect. Chiefly because 2nd is the 2nd to the 1st which could cut out the wire of the breathing life support apparatus pretty fast. 7th being 7th to the 1st means the person slowly lose out for not having mutual dependency with others.
