Hi All,

I know this is a basic query, but I need assistance in understanding something. When weighing for results, how do you declare/know whether the planet posited in a house will give greater effects or its dispositor? Is this checked through the relevant dasas? And, can we say the dispositor, and influences on it along with its navamsa position, will have the final say?

I am trying to differentiate between the results that a house lord and a house tenant give.

What if the dispositor is weak, but tenant is strong? Then can we say house matters of tenant's houses are better than for said house?
Or, if it is the other way, say dispositor is strong but tenants are weak. What happens then? Which results come to pass? Are the results only dasa dependent or lifelong?

I would truly appreciate any pointers!

Thanks and best wishes,
Aaron

When the dignity of a planet falls in the inimical sign then the depositor of that sign has to be weak or in friendly signs for it to flourish. And for planets in friendly signs the depositor has to be stronger.

Thank you for your response, Elipsis.

And, what do we conclude in the case of neutral houses? Or, if the lords are sitting with Ketu? Do we say their depositorship has become weak or spoilt? So, if we have any planets in the houses of said depositors, would they be considered weak?

Appreciate any thoughts you may have to share on this.

Thanks and Best,
Aaron

In neutral signs the depositors must be fairly strong. But the nodes don't behave like planets - they don't have an independent karma of their own nor they are in charge of any house, What they do is play spoil sport in the native's chart. Ketu detaches a planet from its karma or karakatwa and Rahu corrupts a planet's karma, Ketu obviously is more deadly because it does take away all of the fruits of a benefic planet but it also does the same thing to a dangerous malefic planet so it can be good as well as bad, it all depends on the chart. And when Rahu is associated with a planet - it intensifies its fruits to abnormal levels there by pushing the native to bend the law.

During it's Dasa or anatra a planet invokes stronger and primary results of the house that he sits in.
and only secondary results of the house(s) that it rules.

Hi Shilpa

Thanks for the elightening response.

Do you know that most other astrologers have the answer the other way round? That rulership is stronger than placement like Dinesh Mathur and some others that I know.

Dasas aside, if you talk about natal delineations, BPHS usually talk about rulership with placement but other classics talk about placement.

My personal opinion is that rulership should take preference.....just like we are hoping that the 9th lord or 5th lord is running, regardless where they are placed.

Or we would be mortified if a Dusthana lord is about to come and we would take precautions to hedge its malefic gaze.

But at the same time after noting the rulership, we then see which house the planet is placed, to see what affairs need to be tackled like is it to put our own houses in order OR to go up one notch in life - the difference between Dusthana and non-Dusthana respectively.

Hello Khoo,
My response was spontaneous...didn't have to even think about it.
I am sure I have read this in a book or classic but these days, given lack of time...... it's becoming hard to immediately locate and extract a relevant item from a pile of books.
neverthles what's most important is this works on 100s and 100s of charts I may have seen.

when it's the MD or AD of a planet...the house where it sits...pops up....magnified 10X ...like activated button has been pressed on that house....delivering the signifcations of that house.

the houses that it owns......are semiactivated like a level of 3X ...in terms of significations delivered.

given that all other non dasa operating hosues are delivering a baseline level X.

so if you get the AD of a planet in own house.......that a blistering bonus.
and if you hit the MD of a planet in own house........it's like a jackpot.....and especially if it happens to be a planet like Ju, Ve or Shani.......solid 15 to 18 years of bonanza.

not related ectly to the subject dirbut I also find a planet in own house delivers far more than one that is exalted.

regards

Well, the thing about planet in own sign, he both rules and sits on the house, so effects would be magnified. That one is without a doubt. It satisfies both rulership and placement.

As for planet sitting in the house not in its own sign, I believe the weaker it is, like enemy sign, in debility etc. the more rulership would take precedence. But since you claim you have it through experience reading charts, ok I give you the benefit of the doubt.

But I believe notwithstanding placement takes precedence, it would get less and less, if the planet is less and less well placed.

I believe dasa and natal, the effects precedence order is different, even if I were to agree with you on the dasa effects precedence with the qualification above.

The thing is placement comes first and then the dispositor for dasa effects is actually also quite logical because that is the direction of the chain of dispositorship. So in that sense placement effects come first and then the dispositor. So in that sense it is classified as primary and secondary.

Yes, I think I have the overall picture now.

To make things even clearer....

When we talk about dasa effects, the keyword is PRECEDENCE.

When we talk about natal effects, the keyword is PREDOMINANCE.

When a planet is in its own sign, PRECEDENCE and PREDOMINANCE collapses into one, whether for dasa effects or for natal effects.

First and foremost is the placement effect and the closer the planet is to bhaav madhya, the stronger the effect

Secondary is ownership

however in reality one has to ascertain the overlap of 3 things-

1) bhaav placement effects
2) ownership effects
3) planet general karakatva effects

the overlap of these 3 will be mostly felt in dasha

f2f

yes well reminded us all......the 3rd item i.e planetary karkatvas is also an imporatant area that is also felt exaggeratedly during the dasa / anatra of the planet.

Hi

In the marathi program "bhavishyawar bolu kahi", if i remember correctly, sharad upadhye gave the following order for judging a house

1. Natural karaka
2. Planets in bhava
3. Bhavesh

Many experts have already had a great discussion here. Just to add a reference:

According to Pt. Sanjay Rath, (and later in Visti Larsen classes), for looking at effects of a house, like Arudha Lagna, or Upapada etc, the order considered is:

1. Planet in the house
2. Owner of the house
3. Dristi to the house
4. Karaka

If none of them are doing good, then the results of the house are hard to get.

A doubt reg ...If we get the MD of a planet in own house it will be like a jackpot..

How if the planet is in exchange with another. It is understood to be acting “as though“ placed in own house. Does the same principle apply?

Nicely said. This is the fundamental and core point to the topic.

exchange of houses have good and bad scenarios:

1) exchange of a kendra or kona lord with eitehr or kendra or kona lord is good
2) Exchange of dusthan with dusthan lord is also good
3) Exchange of houses 2, 3 and 11 between themselves or with a kendra / kona lord is OK
4) exchnage of dusthan with non-dusthan is bad.

even amongst the good scenarips if planets exchanging houses are natural enemies....such as shani-moon or shani-mangal it then gives mixed results....good from a house exchane point of view but bad from a natural karkatva of planets POV...and both good and bad act simultaneosuly.

how strong do planets get when in mutual exchange under the good scanarios ??.........I am unable to quantify....certainly not as strong as the planets in own house....a few levels less.......but how less I am unable to quantify.

another point that I have found works is a planet aspecting it's own house.......gives strength to the planet and the house.......some say it is half as strong as being in own house...other's say it's 2/3rd as strong as being in own house....unable to qualtify...but it does add strength to the planet and house.

This has been asserted as true by others also and source cannot be recalled...it should added strength if you think logically. Planet is able to establish relationship with its house and is watching it.
The interesting situation occurs with mercury when it is I Pisces aspecting Virgo.

in case of debilitated Me, aspecting his own house..... as also in case of debilitated shani aspecting own house throuhg the 10th drishti....I have found the debilitation overrides the "own house apsect" and the planet remains weak.

@aaron ; As a rule it is always tenant is stronger than the owner. But in cases of vargothama posns of owner of
the house is stronger than tenant.Next comes swakshetra posns. When both are equal in strength ,the general
rule takes over. This is the basic theory of revolutionary modern astrologer prof.krishnamurthyji.

Thanks, SRCS. This is most helpful! I will look up Prof. Krishnamurthy's writings to see what I can learn further.
