From the Brhmananda Purana, we know that Mamantha (Cupid) is different from Shukracharya (Venus).

Mamantha gives the devas pleasures and continued their lineage. So how is Mamantha denoted in an Astrological Chart?

I believe certain aspects of Mars is representative of Mamantha. Just like certain aspects of Msars is representative of Shiva as explained in an earlier post.

Mars takes the orders from the Sun and serves the Moon and Jupiter. And Mars goes after Venus. So via Mars, Moon, Sun and Jupiter gets the necessary love and procreation from Venus.

Notice that Mars represents bachelorhood. This is the aspect of Shiva who likes to be an ascetic and come and go as he pleases (Mars technically speaking likes to roam in the countryside), although in general he does not mind being a householder, unlike Vishnu who needs to be coaxed to be one.

Vishnu is the Sun by the way, and the Sun has a lot of "office" duties in his mind.

Venus is attractive but Mars is attractiveness. Venus rules the outward appearance and the allure but Mars rules the inner attractiveness of a person what we call his inner temper (temper as in his state of mind, mood and humour).

Venus may represent the semen but Mars rules the semen creation and not Venus as most astrologers would led us to believe.

Mars is Rasa : Rasa, the fluid principle is the basis for the accomplishment of the four-fold aims of life (Purusharthas). Let us see how.
A. Rasa itself is the form of Paramatma, the Almighty.
B. From Rasa are created Shukla (sperm) and Shonita (ovum). These two are collectively called as Veerya.
C. From Veerya comes Kanti (radiance), Utsaaha (enthusiasm), Ullasa(happiness), Dharma (righteousness), Daya (compassion), Preeti (love),Buddhi (intellectual capabilities), Vikasa (development), Parakrama (valour)Shastra Vijnana (scientific knowledge), Kala Asakti (interest in arts), Soundarya Drishti (proper concept of beauty) etc.
D. In plants, the Rasa enhances the fire energy, which is hidden in them. Only when the fire energy is harnessed, the plants can branch out and bear flowers and fruits. Because of this fire principle, the dried logs catch fire easily and burn.
E. The Vedas have declared that beings can experience happiness only if Rasais present. F. Rasa is nothing but Prana (vital energy). G. Having known all these secrets, Bhandasura devised the plan of entering the bodies of all beings in the form of air and drying them up.

No wonder Mars is so important in a horoscope. It is the natural ruler of the 1st house. None of the planets can gain strength if Mars is weak in a chart!!!!

In the story of Bhandasura, that is how he the demon and his associates, tackle the Devas by going into the air, and infiltrating into their bodies and drying up all the Rasa.

The demons took in the Mars essence of Mamantha ashes and used it in a pernicious manner on the Devas when Mamantha was burnt by Shiva's third eye.

Later on Mamantha was made alive again.

The Purana went on to say that only Lord Shiva (Maha Shambhu) is the only one that escape the effects caused by Bhandasura. Only logical because Mars is part Shiva too.

When Lalitha Devi revived Manmadha, Kama is once again established so that Pravati and Shiva can get married to get a son to annihilate Taraka (Bhandsasura has already been killed by Lalitha Devi). Thus Kama houses in an astrological chart represents gains to teh Dharmic Houses (each Kama house is 11th to a Dharma house). The Mars in Manmadha is more Kama, whereas the Mars in Shiva is more Dharma.
