Also Canceris the exaltation place of Jupiter.
Also 6th with Sagittarius there, means things improve over time.

Note that for Jupiter ruling 9th house for Cancer Ascendant to flourish fully, 10th house should be stronger than the 6th house otherwise 6th being 10th to the 9th would block the flow of good fortune from the 9th. Similar statement applies to Mercury for a Capricorn Ascendant.

Similarly the 5th house for a Cancer Ascendant must not be afflicted, otherwise it will spell the death of the 10th house, 5th being the 8th of the 10th. Similar statement applies to the 5th house for a Capricorn Ascendant.

MYTH OR FACT :
During the dasa period of a lord, you can also count the following houses effects as well :
(1) The 9th to the house where the dasa lord rules.
(2) The Bhavat Bhavam of the house where the dasa lord rules
The effect of (2) should be greater than (1). And the effect of the houses where the dasa lord rules should be greater than (2).
So back to Cancer Ascendant again for Mars and Jupiter.
During the dasa of Mars, the following houses kick in (ordered in descending order in terms of intensity) : 5th house, 10th house, 9th house, 3rd house, 6th house, 1st house
During the dasa of Jupiter, the following houses kick in (ordered in desending order in terms of intensity) : 9th house, 6th house, 11th house, 5th house, 2nd house.
Let's see Aquarius Ascendant for Saturn and Venus dasas (progressed D-45) supporting the progressed D-1 (Scorpio Ascendant).
During the dasa of Saturn, the following houses kick in in the progressed D-45 (ordered in descending order in terms of intensity) : 1st house, 12th house, 7th house, 9th house, 8th house which is supporting the progressed D-1 (ordered in descending order in terms of intensity) : 3rd house, 4th house, 2nd house, 8th house, 11th house, 12th house.

Notice the 9th lord dasa is very good........it encompasses the 5th lord and 11th lord effects........but more than that....it encompasses the 5th lord dosage DOUBLY because 5th is not only Bhavat Bhavam of the 9th, it is also the 9th of the 9th meaning it is 9th to the 9th house aside from the Bhavat Bhavam principle.

In fact you can take the 11th to the house of which the dasa lord rules, as kicking in its effects during the period of the said dasa lord as well.
This should be the weakest.
So for Cancer Ascendant during Jupiter dasa.......the 7th house and the 4th house effects can also be felt.
Mars dasa........the 8th house and 3rd house effects can be felt...notice the 3rd house effect comes in doubly....once through the Bhavat Bhavam principle and once through being 11th to the 5th house.
And you can work out the example for the Progressed D-1 and Progressed D-45 using the example Lagnas above.
This goes to show during the dasa periods, a lot of houses jostle for their effects.
This principle for dasas is the same one that we used when considering which are the karya houses in a divisional chart.

Notice also during the dasa of the lord of an Air House, some Dharmic effects can be felt, because a Dharma house is always placed 11th to any Air House.
Air Houses signify when a Hindu becomes a Householder or participate in worldly affairs. In so doing he is manifesting his economic status (Air is Bhavat Bhavam of an Earth House), putting his spirituality to practical use in worldly affairs (Air is Bhavat Bhavam of a Water House) and he also gains Dharma as well (3rd relates to putting one's endowments in action ie. the 1st, 7th through getting a mate and then you can get children ie. the 5th and lastly the 11th through gaining God's grace, provided you can remain detach to the luxuries and worldly goods heaped on you ie. the 9th).

Hi Khoo,
Does this mean that for a person with a Virgo ascendant like me,the dasha of Mercury will lead to effects of Jupiter(7th lord) ,Venus (9th lord) and Moon(11th lord) apart from Mercury's effects?

The above concept must NOT be confused with the concept that during the dasas of the Dusthanas to a House ie. the 6th, 8th and 12th, it would ACTIVATE that House. The two concepts are totally separate. This latter concept was expounded by Saptarishis Astrology.

If you are talking about analysing the house effects in the Rasi Chart (the normal one, not the progressed one), then the house in question PLUS the second to it would take precedence.
Notice how different parameters come to the fore depending on what you are doing.

MYTH OR FACT :
The karakas for Jyotish and Jyotishi according to Souvik Dutta :
QUOTE
The return of [to] the Doctor -
The karaka graha of jyotish is Surya and yet the karaka for jyotishis is Budha. It is indeed a contradiction. Jyotish is based on truth and is a Maha Satya whereas Jyotishis are supposed to be like Budha, the prince, the child, the neuter. Is there a deeper significance to this?
what is common to return to a place, sequel to a movie or winning in the second round? The common factor here is a Budha. Mercury is the karaka for re-doing things. In a prasna kundali if the Lagna is associated with Mercury, it shows cross-roads, decision and success in the second attempt. However, why would that be the case?
Mercury is the learner, eternal at that one. The truth of jyotish is immense and is like the vastness of the Sun, yet memory, intellect and learning capability of the jyotishi is limited like Mercury. So, mistakes are bound to happen, predictions are bound to fail, limitations are bound to arise. So, what does a jyotishi do in such a case? Re-visit, Re-evaluate, re-judge and re-learn. The more swiftly, the more efficiently, the more effortlessly one can do this, the better jyotishi he/she will be.
Yes, it is correct when people say that jyotish is without faults but the imperfection lies in jyotishis. However, what measures the success of an jyotishi? The answer to this is the same as that which would measure the success of a doctor.
A doctor who re-valuates, re-examines and re-analyzes cases each time he/she fails the first time is a good doctor. Such a doctor generates trust, wins the confidence of the client. The success of a jyotishi is from his/her repeat clients. The more repeat clients a jyotish has over years of practice, the more trust-worthy he/she is. Trust is a big factor in the world of jyotish. Honesty is yet another and the ability to be flexible is the most important quality that distinguishes a good jyotishi from the rest.
Jyotish the science is vast like the expansive Sun. Being human, one can only wish to be closest to that eternal truth and thus the closest Graha to it is the karaka graha of the practitioners of his science, Budha.
Being a pandit and being a jyotish[i] are two different things. One of the major difference in the two roles is teaching versus client interaction. A pandit having the pure qualities of Akash may be an amazing teacher but a practicing jyotishi has to identify with the real people who live in deep materialism and be flexible enough to understand and comprehend their problems and provide solutions which make sense to them in their own ways. Thus the quality of Prithvi Tattwa is very much needed a professional jyotishi.
It is always this flexibility in a jyotishs that makes clients come back to him/her. In other words they return back to the doctor!

MYTH OR FACT :
When there is an exchange between any 2 houses which are in a 3rd-11th relationship, the house in between stands to benefit. It is protected on both sides and both sides maintain a line of sight with each other.
So for example, if there is an exchange between 2nd and 12th, even though the 2nd house may get destroyed because the 12th is a Dusthana, the 1st house remains fortified because the 1st house is not the one directly soiling its hands.

In fact that is exactly what happened to my Moon in the in the 8th in the Tithyamsa Chart. There is a Bhava exchange between the 7th and 9th, lorded partly by Jupiter and Saturn respectively.

MYTH OR FACT :
There are 3 sign positions of Jupiter which can give inordinate wealth : Scorpio, Aquarius and Capricorn.
If you take the concept of Nadi Astrology of making the Bhava where Jupiter is placed as the Ascendant, then it becomes clear in your mind.
Jupiter in Scorpio in the 1st. Here Jupiter is ruling a trine house and a money house giving a very good Dhana Yoga. Scorpio also stands for the 8th and when Jupiter is there it stands for inordinate gains.
Jupiter in Aquarius in the 1st. Here Jupiter is ruling both money houses of the 11th and the 2nd. Aquarius also stands for the 11th and Jupiter posited in this sign, simply stands for gains.
Jupiter in Capricorn in the 1st. Here is a bit tricky.
Now we know 10th to a House A is more powerful than the House A. But what happens when Jupiter is in Capricorn in the Ascendant? All the houses get overlaid by a sign which esoterically stands for the house 10th to the house in question. So Scorpio is on the 11th meaning inordinate gains and Aquarius is on the 2nd meaning accumulation at more than the steady rate.
Plus Sagittarius on the 12th stands for hidden access to wealth and Pisces on the 3rd means Jupiter in Capricorn in the Ascendant gains on all 3rd house matters. Now 3rd house stands for initiation of efforts, so this translates to a Midas Touch, where all ventures becomes lucky for a person (Jupiter in Libra also has this quality with Sagittarius on the 3rd, but then Jupiter in Libra do not have the rest of the other factors mentioned for Jupiter in Capricorn).
It is also interesting to note that Bhavat Ratnakara mentioned if Jupiter is ruling the 9th and placed in the 8th, it is very good. This can only happen also when Jupiter is in Aquarius or Jupiter is in Scorpio.

Note that Jupiter in Capricorn is debilitated. So it gives health problems more than the average because of the weakness UNLESS the concept of the Great Parasara exception applies.

MYTH OR FACT :
I have written many times on this but I think I have still have not got it 100% right. So I am writing this again.
Jupiter in Aquarius is akin to being exalted in Cancer according to one classic.
Why?
First you must understand that Parasara says Cancer can always be taken as the Ascendant regardless whether there are planets there or not.
So take Cancer as the Ascendant.
8th to Cancer is the 8th Bhava which has Aquarius there.
From Parasara's aspects, we know the aspects of Graha which can rule signs (environment) or nakshatras (life or will of the native). But Jamini aspects always cover sign aspects, whether there are planets in the signs in question or not. So Jaimini aspects are a kind of environmental aspects.
We know the 8th house is like the past karma of the native (12th yes also but the 8th is more significant being the 9th to the 12th. Also 8th sign aspects the Ascendant by Jaimini aspects but not the 12th). So Jupiter in Aquarius in the 8th is like Jupiter being placed in the environment in Cancer ON THE ASCENDANT making the ccorrespondence highly powerful.

MYTH OR FACT :
The exchange between House A and the 7th to it means the person is able to see two sides of the issue of the two diametrically opposite houses in question.
The exchange between House A and the 9th/5th to it means the person is able to bring the affairs of pair of houses (House A with 9th or 5th to it) to a future state ie. with progress, while fortifying his position.
The exchange between House A and the 11th/3rd to it means the person can initiate endeavours and obtain gains for the affairs of the pair of houses in question. The house sandwitched between the two houses also gets protected eg. exchange between the 12th to Lagna and the 2nd to Lagna protects the Lagna itself.
The exchange between House A and the 2nd/12th to it means the person is able to give moral and material support for the affairs of the pair of houses in question.
The exchange between House A and the 4th/10th to it means the person is able to bulwark (stronger than fortify which is the 9th) and takes control of the affairs of the pair of houses in question.
The exchange between House A and the 6th/8th to it means the person is able to expand and sustain the affairs of the pair of house in question. It often comes with some difficulties and obstacles.

My D-1 Tithyamsa Chart has Moon (8th) Trining Sun (12th). Moon rules 1st (latter part of Bhava) and Sun rules 2nd (latter part of Bhava). Both Sun and Moon are flanked on both sides by beneficial planets (Mars and Saturn in own signs can be considered beneficial). Mercury also remains benefic because Mars conjuncting it can be considered benefic.
I think the overall distribution of planets in my Tithyamsa Chart shows I am quite good in all spiritual subjects.

MYTH OR FACT :
In Electional Astrology, the Vara Lord, the Hora Lord and the Lord the Navamsa of the Sun and the Moon are important factors for consideration.
It is the same consideration for natal astrology although the last factor, was not explicitly stated by Souvik Dutta in his article in AIAC Times Volume 7.
Vara Lord must be well placed, failing which, Hora Lord would do as well but it must be strong in Shadbala. There is one classic which details the various stengths of the Hora Lord and what to expect if the strengths falls within each range ie. there are range classifications as to its goodness for the Hora Lord.
Can anybody list them down in this forum, if you know?
Thanks.
