MYTH OR FACT :

Although Vedic Astrologers always mentioned that both 4th and 10th houses are significations of comforts, in actual fact, Parasara only credited comforts with the 10th house and not the 4th house.

10th is an Earth House and Sun and Mercury are the karakas. Sun is a fiery planet which brings success to fruition and Mercury being an earth planet gives the fruits of your labour. Jupiter as the karaka of expansion in the 10th gives Mercury the necessary push in the direction of supporting life through creature comforts. Saturn strengths the overall stability of the success in the 10th as a karaka of career. Mars digbala here is another fiery planet that brings success to fruition.

In the 4th where Venus is digbala and Moon is the karaka and being a water house, it is mainly the mind (Moon) and the atmosphere (Venus) that gives natives the impression of comfort. Water in general needs the Earth element to give fruition to anything that is material (not even kingship governed by the 4th can be considered as creature comforts if the king is ruling a barren land), and an Earth Sign there or Mercury strongly connected to the 4th house or strong would somewhat raise the 4th house status as giving comforts.

But one of the Bhanga for Venus Malavya Yoga is Mercury positioning with Venus and the Bhanga for Mercury Bhadra Yoga is Venus positing with Mercury

(see this link under page 43 http://www.scribd.com/fullscreen/118123 ... share=true
)

and hence the 4th house seldom has strong Earth and Water elements combined and thus seldom has the required necessary condtions to give real material comforts.

So if the Water Element and the Earth Element gets on so well together, why is it that Mercury causes Bhanga to Venus Malavya Yoga when placed with Venus and Venus causes Bhanga to Mercury Bhadra Yoga when placed with Mercury? The reason is that Mahapurushas Yoga means that particular planet causing the Yoga, the characteristics are highly accentuated, but if you look at Earth and Water when they mix together, the identity of each loses much of its own personality.

Remember to take the 5th house as the Ascendant for all three charts of D9, D45 and D81.

MYTH OR FACT :

What are my prospects as an astrological consultant?

Take my Dasamsa and taking the 5th house as the Ascendant.

I have a Leo Ascendant.
Sun, Jupiter, Rahu in the 1st in Leo.
Saturn, Ketu in the 7th in Aquarius.
Mars in the 5th and Mars is a Yogakaraka. Mars is in Sagittarius.
Mercury, Venus in 12th in Cancer.
Moon in Gemini in the 11th.

Saturn rules the 6th, 7th houses of work and business in the house of 7th as a business consultant. Ketu only strengthens Saturn since Saturn is in its own sign and Ketu is the planet of astrology per se.

Sun, Jupiter, Rahu in Leo in the 1st lends spirituality and supports the Saturn, Ketu in the 7th.

Mercury, Venus in the 12th means spiritualism will be pursued with great determination as well, as these two are Rajastic planets. It is in exchange with Moon in the 11th. There will be gains in the mind towards spirituality.

Mars a Yogakara in the 5th gives consultative expertise.

MYTH OR FACT :

From Astrologer Jantindal pal Sandhu :

Ketu in conjunction with planet in own sign or mool trikon sign.
Ketu represents Flag (pataka). Whenever Ketu is conjunct any planet who's in its own sign/MT/exaltation Ketu increases the power of that planet by 4 times (i.e. takes its flag very high). It even take it higher if Ketu is also in exaltation/MT sign.

My Saturn is in such a placement in its own sign of Capricorn.

Hi Khoo,
Sorry to interrupt the thread, but I notice you often take 5th house as ascendant when reading your charts.
Why is this?
It's the first I've heard of anyone doing it, and I am intrigued.
So you think one can/should read charts this way instead of (or equal to) reading them from the "regular" ascendant/1st house ?

Thanks

Yes, GNE.

Because the 5th house represents how your past life karma can expanded in your this current life, 5th is the 6th of the 12th. And 5th is also the 5th to the 1st of your birth ie. the future of your endowed properties.

So taking the 5th house as the Ascendant can give more spectacular results. You can still take Lagna as the Ascendant for physical attributes, in-born personality traits not easily changed eg. 1st lord going to the 8th etc. But it should accord lesser weightage in other analysis factors than if you take the 5th house as the Ascendant.

MYTH OR FACT
------------------

A planet well placed by sign can do wonders in a Dusthana. But it could do better in a non-Dusthana, BUT NOT in the sense of results because Vipareet Raja Yoga usually can turn things around to giver huge gains for example for a planet placed in its own sign in Dusthana or an exalted planet tin a Dusthana can coast through life on the matters governed by that Dusthana. RATHER in a non-Dusthana, a planet well placed means the positive side of the ledger is expereinced first and foremost AND on matters related to positive aspects of life - not something that deals with enemies like the 6th or crises like the 8th.

A planet that is badly placed in a Dusthana lead to enormous difficulties. In a non-Dusthana, a planet badly placed can lead to the 2 types of consequences, depending whether the house is an Uppachaya or a non-Uppachaya. In a non-Uppachya and non-Dusthana, a planet badly placed leads to minimal results. Rather uneventful so tospeak. In a Uppachaya and non-Dusthana like the 3rd,6th,10th and 11th, a planet badly placed starts off with difficulties, but gradually improve over time, the quantum of improvement depending on the condition of the dispositor of the Uppachaya Lord. If that dispositor hapens to be in another Uppachaya, it leads to Raja Yoga, as the person would have incredible strength in surmounting difficulties.

In all the above conditions (1st and 2nd paragaphs), if the planet also hapens to be a 5th or 9th lord, luck would follow the native in handling the affairs of the said house where the plaent is placed.

@Khoohock; 1) None of the veterans of the jyotish right from sage Parasara etc ever advocated to take 5th house as lagna &analyse. The gross aspect of 5th is progeny&subtle aspect is intelligence. In between
many matters it governs.
2)u 've to include 6th house also in Upachya sthana. Many stalwarts are not able to come to any conclusion
if naisargika/adhipathya benefics/malefics are better/worse in it.Classical authors say malefics do good in
upachayas. But reality seems to be mixed. All depends on dasa/Bhukthi,9th house/karmasthana,&lagna strength
&jaya yoga & of course Go-chaara(Transits).
3)bandhana-morcha yogas in dustanas produce rajayoga is a fact.

Hi SRCS

In reply to your points :

(1) Not advocating is not the same as stating and disagreeing with the precept. A lot of things are not stated in the classics but as astrologers you have to deduce. Unless Parasara (or any other sage) explicitly states like for example Sun or Moon ruling the 8th house is a neutral lord.

This practice of taking 5th house as the Ascendant is practised by a lot of traditional Indian astrologers. The person who got this knowledge actually is from Sanjay Rath's camp because he tutelgaed under a Rishi in India. His name is Zoran (can't remember exactly the name). Like I said I also happened to find out the truth of this on my own. And like I always said, we can deduce what we read. That is important. But whether the deduction is done logically and understandable to the masses is for the masses to judge, and the outcome of the results for those practising astrologers who use this technique is for those practising it to judge and the clients who used their services. I have used it in on my chart and during my readings as an astrologer in the Paid Section AND IT WORKS.

(2) The matter on the 6th house on whether it is good or bad has been extensively discussed in this forum and Saptarishis Astrology. I suggest you read those pieces. It can be good or it can be bad in the sense sometimes in a chart it exhibits more as a Dusthana and sometimes more as a Uppachaya. This precept includes the lesser principles to be discussed below and other over-arching concepts which you have to read through the articles and pieces.

Trinal lords in the Dusthanas always bring luck, that point, there is no denying on that. Same with the concept of Vipareet Raja Yoga which is a kind of luck too but imbued with effort as well.

Exaltation lords do give good results even in Dusthanas, otherwise why are they exalted? It is because they are powerful. And also powerful in a good way. But for exaltation, the dispositor must be well placed in strength.

6th has less spirituality than the 8th or 12th and also being an Uppachaya, and as such, natural malefics have more affinity with the 6th than the 8th or the 12th in the sense of giving better results.

I don't doubt many factors have to be taken into account when reading a chart but when we discuss astrological principles we cannot always reduce the discussion to the least common denominator which would get us nowhere.

High logic in Vedic Science like Astrology is akin to insights which is more important than even following omens which in turn is even more important than following methodological precepts. And referencing to classics is OK, but classics do not expound everything.....unless BPHS (or some other very reputable and tried and tested classics) definitely state its stand.

The whole of the Vedas, including the studying of Jyotish, is passed by oral tradition, so a lot of dicta are not recorded in the classics.

Hi SRCS

6th is a Dusthana. I have amended the post above (few posts back) talking about Dusthanas and Uppachayas and inserted "6th".

Thanks.

The other thing is all astrological precepts must mesh and must NOT contradict one another as well.

For exaltation of planets to give results whether Dusthanas or non-Dusthanas, the other point to take note is that in the chart, there must be a simultaneous existence of the debilitation of a planet. This is expounded in Deva Keralam.

If you subscribed to the dictum that debilitation of planets can help plant some spiritual roots in a person, it becomes obvious the reason behind the above dictum.

MYTH OR FACT :

From Lal Katib Sanjivni :

Pitri Dosh or Pitri Rin :-
Lal Kitab astrology gives lot of importance to Pitri Dosh . Pitra Dosha is not a curse of the Ancestors, but it is a Karmic Debt of the ancestors which the person having Pitra Dosha in his horoscope is supposed to pay.

Since we enjoy the wealth, name and fame earned by our ancestors we are equally liable to suffer their misdeeds too. The dosh created as a result of the bad deeds of our ancestors is pitri-

dosh or pitra-rin. . Pitri rin is different from the ‘pitri-shraap’ or the curse of the ancestors.

Brahat parashar gives 14 kinds of pitra-shrap, Mantreshwar in phal deepika says that rahu in the 5th creates pishach-badha, Gopal Ratnakar calls it sarp-shrap. In the traditional vedic astrology Rahu is considered the main cause of these dosh .

Lal Kitab in its 1952 edition discusses this problem in great detail along with its remedies

These lines describe three conditions of Pitri-Rin:

If there is a planet in the 9th house and Mercury occupies the rashi { sign } of that planet then it will be a pitr-rin kundali.
when the enemy planets occupy a rashi and is not aspected by the rashi lord , the kundali will be of pitr-rin.
if there is an enemy planet of Jupiter like venus or mercury in the 5th , 12th , 9th and 2nd then also it will be a pitr-rin kundali .

{of the three couplets the first two talk of the rasi and the third one talks of the pakka ghar of Jupiter.}

The Lal kitab suggests remedies in detail for pitr-rin arising out of such situations . It provides the detailed cause of these debts, the planet involved and its remedies.

Remedies of Pitri Dosh or Pitri Rin

Pitra Dosh is a very bad defect and general remedies are not sufficient for it. It is very important first to identify the planet or planets causing Pitra Dosh and then do the remedies which usually involve Pooja, Mantras, Gemstones and Charities

I have NONE of the conditions. Even my Moon in enemy sign in Capricorn, is conjuncting Saturn which in this context, can be taken as an aspect. Jupiter in Aquarius, is not an enemy to any planet. Jupiter is a Guru. Venus in Cancer is aspected by the Moon, the Rasi Lord of Cancer.

@KhooHock. ur reply conveys the impression that we can manipulate basics of Shastras (astrology) to suit
our area of research wrt 5th house taking as lagna. The founders of Hindu astrology/later stalwarts has taken
the respective karakas as lagna in so far as to study the relevant bhava. For eg. u want to study about the
progeny then do the same from naisargika karaka Guru & for marriage from sukra etc.
I may 've to again repeat nowhere they advocated to take 5th house as natal lagna which is the precious moment that decides the note of harmony/planetary vibrations &so has its influence on the actions of our lives from cradle to the grave. We 've no authority to change that moment of birth. ur idea implies that destiny/fate is alterable which is against very basis of horoscope design bcoz it owes its existence to karma.

taking the 5th house as the ascendant, like I said is practised by some traditional astrologers in India because jyotish being part of the Vedas, and most of the Vedas precepts whether astrology or otherwise is passed by word of mouth, a lot of them is not recorded.

classics are just the framework from which we can further expand. and let's not forget there are other classics which still are not unearthed.

You seem to think rishis only exist in ancient eras. but that is not the case.

There is actually a yoga configuration for a rishi. And he is able to bring to the masses the mystical precepts of astrology.

For example shilpa. According to classics, venus and saturn are not affected by the combustion of the sun. but their life would be cut short (maraka). but shilpa has mentioned in her post that combustion affects enemies of the sun more than the sun's friends. This means venus and saturn gets affected more. this means their life is really shortened if you take shilpa precepts plus the precepts from BPHS combined.

So rishis do exist in the mordern age as well.

As for saying that taking 5th house as the ascendant means you are changing the birth time, that is not true. The planets still stay in the same degrees. Except the bhavas change. 5th is the future of the ascendant and the Ascendant becomes 9th house matters ie. more spiritual etc. each bhava becomes the 9th house to its original position.....this means the bhava has changed to become MORE STABLE - you know the 9th to a Bhava supports that Bhava because 9th shows stability in the matters for that Bhava - Jupiter the karaka and natural ruler for the 9th house is synonymous for stability.

My points in my earlier reply still stand and in addition, my points above.

For readers, I think what you want is just that the technique works. That's all you want. So test it out in your chart to see whether it works or not.

MYTH OR FACT :

Saturn is Brahma
Mercury is Vishnu
Venus is Lakshmi
Moon is Gauri/Durga
Sun is Surya
Jupiter is Indra
Mars is Kashitreya
Ketu is Ganesha
Rahu is the Asura that aims for the nectar of immortality ie. to be like the Gods

Fortune of the chart is thus best when :

Venus rules the 5th or 9th, the abodes of Lakshmi, and combines with Mercury or Saturn which rules the kendra

Jupiter rules the 9th - Indra-Lok where there is no want or need

Moon rules the 4th - where the Moon gains Shakti and able to organise the mundane affairs of the mortal world

Mars rules the Uppachaya of the 3rd, 6th, 10th, 11th - where these Bhavas give Kashitreya full freedom in exhibting his splendour and energy

Sun rules the 5th - where Sun's heat is able to digest the knowledge to gain wisdom and stability in this mundane world. The knowledge digested is exhibited through the Sun's soul.

Ketu is on an angle where Ganesha's prosperity and removal of obstacles gain power

Rahu is in an angle aspected by Jupiter ruling 5th or 9th. This gives Rahu the ability to pull off his maya and gain riches (Jupiter ruling an angle is weak and so if it aspects Rahu in the 5th or 9th produces no great benefits).

MYTH OR FACT :

Normally we do not employ Jaimini Rasi Dhristis and can still get away with it by giving a complete analysis of the chart. We just employ Graha Yutis and Graha Dhristis.

ANSWER
----------

True.

Why is this so? Because Rasi Dhristis represent the environment given which is unlike Graha aspects and conjunctions which signify the will and temperament of the individual.

We generally want to know the success we can get in life based on the effort we put in UNLESS that success is small, we generally do not seek to bother the astrologer with questions on the environment.

MYTH OR FACT :

From Jatinder pal Sandhu :

Ashtak warga principles and your life
Take sarvashtak varga score of

1st ,5th and 9th its called bandhu
2nd ,6th and 10th its called Sevaka
3rd ,7th ans 11th its called poshaka
4th ,8th and 12th its called Ghatka.

Adding up bindus if you have your Bandhu score higher than the Sevaka that means you have independent source of living. If sevaka is higher than you lead a life of servitude that means you serve others. Similarly if Poshka is strong than ghatka it means the person is wealthy.

In jyotish we have different division like Dharma,Artha,Kama and Moksha The observation is that if you have sevaka Artha strong that means person is wealthy.

MYTH OR FACT :

The effective time of birth of a person is when he comes out of the womb. Not when he cry because the chart of an individual under 12 years old, is not effective, meaning the planets are not acting out their full strength. So we have only to depend on the person coming out into this world as the time of the start of his birth which also means the time when he exits from the nether world.
