Hi all,
I posted sometime ago regarding my traditional marriage and the fact that my husband was having an affair. I have just gone through my traditional marriage and fortunately or unfortunately, there have been no changes. I'm waiting till feb 2013 when his affairs are predicted to end before making a decision as to how to move on.
My question is regarding karma. An astrologer on this forum explained that my planets are in a bad position due to past karma. How would I know if I have Learnt the karmic lessons I need to learn? Will I ever be able to finish paying off the sins of past lives in this life? What are the karmic lessons that I need to learn? I have been reading up a lot on karma and I learnt that in the Kali Yuga, one sees the results or the punishments of karma committed in this lifetime almost immediately. Is this indeed true?

In Hindu metaphysics, higher than karma are the three gunas and their effects and the play of prakirti. The soul is just the the Purusha who observes the interaction of three gunas and the effects produced thereof. While in the process of observation when (as part of maya) attachment is produced and birth and death is experienced as everything is governed by time.
However, to explain it briefly karma is cause and effect while the pleasure and pain derived from several karmic events are dependent on attachment. It is this attachment that creates confusion and makes the observer identify with that which is observed. That which you are observing has been going on and would go on forever, due to the principles on which prakirti is based, but due to attachment you'd confuse the events as part of your own life and also believe that you created the joys and suffering based on choices which were in fact carried on by the nature of prakirti whose function it is to create everything and destroy everything ultimately.
The entire universe exists in the senses in the form of mind. The mind is the link between the soul and the material creation or link between purusha and prakirti. To conquer this mind you have to do yoga. After doing yoga the successful yogi sees that the observer (purusha), the mode of observing (mind) and the thing that is observed (prakirti) are all one and the same. Its an ultimate illusion that distinguishes between the three and creates nothing but pain.
To get rid of this illusion one needs to do yoga about which you can read in Gita and other books.
The European philosophers from after many centuries came up with the term simulation to describe the activities of mind. It's also referred to as virtual reality.
Now there's a big problem with doing yoga or anything else and getting rid of this illusion. The Upanishads and other texts say that only the Higher Self can decide when to remove this illusion from your life. Till then you'll continue to languish under illusion and there are others who are meant to follow the path of Pravitti. This Pravitti marg is the path of return where no liberation exists. Or karma continues forever. Again and again these people are born every time the universe is created. Karma will never cease for them, nor would they transcend illusion, but continue to live under the influence of Maya thinking its real!
As for your chart your 7th house contain Venus who is 7th lord and conjunct Ketu. This would create detachment or separation from spouse as Ketu rules detachment and Venus spouse. Your Jupiter is also debilitated so from your husband's side you'll experience dissatisfaction.
Your moon is in Revati nakshatra, its the best nakshatra for moon to be in. Your atmakaraka is in 12th house in Navamsa. You can aim for higher spiritual growth in this lifetime.
Good luck!

Dear astrowonder,
that's a lot to wonder about. In recent times, I am coming to accept things as God's will and as karmic lessons which need to be learnt. As you predicted, indeed there is detachment from spouse and some astrologers predict that maybe the problems will be solved by feb 2013 but I am not so sure. Earlier today, I came across a post which mentioned that anything achieved at the beginning of rahu dasha will be removed once the dasha ends. I met my husband (then he was my boyfriend) in 2004 during rahu dasha. I think it is only fair to assume that hence the relationship will come to an end in 2013.
With regards to Maya (illusion), I then wonder about remedies. When I do remedies like parvati mantra or durga puja or vishnu mantra, sometimes they seem to work and sometimes they don't. Is that also an illusion?
What is the result of the moon being in the Revati nakshatra? Indeed, as a result of the recent events in my marriage life, I am taking an interest in karma and reading the bhagavad gita in an attempt to figure out the purpose of my life. Am hoping for more guidance so that I can focus my effort. I feel that being born in Kalyug means that my karma will never end and I want to hence achieve liberation. It is just that sometimes I get lost and frustrated because I don't know what I am supposed to achieve in this lifetime.

Yes remedies work when they are supposed to work. And not all the time. And there are countless other people who neither do remedies nor believe in them nor need them and things are fine with them. All these contrary events or even views you'll see due to the nature of maya. There is meant to be lots of variety in creation. That is how Brahma wanted it to be hence there are contrary views/opinions, etc. and all illusory.
In Kalyug it is easier to achieve moksh than in any other yugas as the extent of sinful activities is such that even a little spiritual activities are enough to achieve liberation. It you read stories related to incarnations of Vishnu and worship Shiva, Durga, Ganesh, Surya, five in all, you are likely to achieve liberation quicker.
When universe is created every individual including the Almighty gets possessed or overwhelmed with tamas and beings are formed. This tamas is the beginning of illusion/maya and at the very beginning only the seeds are sown of events that lead to liberation during a certain birth/incarnation. Till you reach that incarnation you'll continue to search for truth or languish under the influence of maya. Even after you discover the truth you'd continue to take incarnations sometimes if that is how things are planned for you. And only satvic people approve of ideas related to liberation. The rajasic and tamasic people despise it and even refuse to belive in it. Moksh is end of their existence for them because that's how they are made to think. The rajas guna was meant to help reincarnate again and again.
All these things are explained very well in Gita, Puranas, Histories of Mahabharata, Ramayana, etc.
Moon in Revati is considered very auspicious as Nakshatra placement. You can read several articles about it on the net.

I have been reading up about the moon being in revati. A lot of articles say that it is my final journey from this life to the next. Does this mean i will achieve liberation?
How do I find out what karma I have pending with regards to placement of the houses in my chart. Have been reading online but astrology is such a vast subject that sometimes what I read is contradictory or confusing.

Astrology will not answer correctly whether your karma is pending or over as karma is illusion. You have to ask yourself whether you still have desires left or any hope left to be happy in material life. If not then you can then you can do yoga.
Pranayama is to be done after studying Hatha Yoga Pradapika. You should properly study the process of kundalini rising before you attempt anything.
With desires unfulfilled you attempt to do Hatha Yoga exercises you'll develop psychiatric problems. When kundalini rises consciousness goes out of body and then you can focus your consciousness on external objects. Usually the trick is to focus on Almighty and thereby create a union (yoga) with him.
According to proponents of Hatha Yoga this union is called Moksh. Its dangerous however and is advocated only when Vairagya (dispassion) and Viveka (discrimination) are fully developed in the soul/mind/body.
The other method of achieving moksh is described in Sankhya Philosophy which is based on pure knowledge. Knowledge of Absolute will help you focus on the Absolute thereby achieving union again with Him. Here you use knowledge to discriminate between what is truth and what is untruth and then focus your mind on truth. Its a lengthy exercise and requires years of reading/studying /observing nature and its phenomena.
Both Sankhya and Hatha yoga lead to same results.
Easier than the two methods is the mode of Bhakti yoga to develop which you just have to study the puranas and histories.

Thank u for ur reply, astrowonder.
Some days I have no desires and other days I do. Some days I want to have a happily married life. In any case, I will start reading the bhagavad gita and see what insights I can get from it as well. I have been reading the durga chalisa as part of my prayers and the line about moh madadik sab binsaven always makes me cry.
