Previously I had written about checking auspicious days and yogas - you can go through it if you like (http://www.lightonvedicastrology.com/ph ... 12&t=16105) . Today, I am going to tell you guys how we can avoid 'dangers' by following a few simple rules. I do not believe everything is pre-destined, some foolish choices we make usually lead us to bad fate rather than the horoscope itself. People who die in accidents, explosions etc don't have bad horoscopes- their destiny isn't pre-written to die in some horrific accident, God isn't so bad hearted- he doesn't want people to die in some space shuttle or in a jumbo jet, such poor taste I must say. And yet, people die. Why does this happen? What causes these random acts of God? I am going to throw some light on what causes bad things in nature and how we can avoid them, this guide isn't definitive- I may have missed information that may be important. But still you can apply these rules if you have faith in astrology as well as in the value of life. But first we ought to come out of this belief that we are all predestined or doomed to misery.
स इत कषेति सुधित ओकसि सवे तस्मा इळा पिन्वते विश्वदानीम |
तस्मै विशः सवयम एवा नमन्ते यस्मिन बरह्मा राजनि पूर्व एति || (Rig Veda on Jupiter)
[Jupiter].. lives peacefully in his own house, to him the holy food (knowledge) comes freely. People with freewill give their respects, to the king whom even Brahma depends.
Every living thing on this planet depends on Sun and Moon for energy, we cannot think of living without these two. Even astrologically, these two planets play a major role in strengthening the life-force of the native. Rahu on the other hand is like a powerhouse through which planets get their energy. But there are times when the energy of Rahu is at all-time low- this naturally saps the strength out of sun and moon, this time is called 'Rahu kalam'. This is the time you should avoid doing anything important or auspicious and most importantly -avoid travelling. Unpredictable things occur when there is no strength of Rahu in the nature, fate becomes uncontrolled and unmanaged. People who got married in Rahu Kala hasn't led a peaceful life till date. So always give first priority to Rahu Kalam.
Signs of Danger
1. Rahu, Yamaganda and Gulika kaal. Check here: http://www.agasthiar.org/panchang/rahu/rahu.htm
2. Dasa of a debilitated planet with Rahu bukti (avoid long travels/important activities)
3. Amavasya, Poornima, Chaturdasi and Pratipada (new moon, full moon, 1st and 14th lunar day).
4. Debilitated planet aspects/conjuncts gulika on a particular day
5. Mars aspects/conjuncts gulika
6. Moon aspects/conjuncts a debilitated planet
7. Weak Yoga and Karana (read more: http://www.lightonvedicastrology.com/ph ... 12&t=16105 )
8. Mars transits Rahu (avoid first 14 days)
9. Eclipse (moon loses strength)
10. Travelling at inappropriate times. Avoid night travel because the strength of Sun and Moon will be very low in general.
But sometimes we cannot avoid bad times. So its best to remember God or recite Mahamrityunjaya mantra 108 times.
You can manually calculate Rahu kaal if at you don't have access to Almanac or online calculator, all you need to know is Sunrise and Sunset timings of your location - you can get this info from local newspaper, TV or weather radio.
Let's take a date for example
Oct 15, 2012
Location: Bangalore
Sunrise: 06:13:23
Sunset: 17:57:11
Lunar: Amavasya (new moon)
Day: Monday (multiply by 2)
Subtract Sunset and Sunrise
[17:57:11]-[06:13:23]= 11:43:48
So divide it by 8
[11:43:48]/8= 1:27:58
So, the length of Rahu Kalam is 1 hour, 27 mins, 58 secs
Now we multiply it by 2 and add it to Sunrise
1:27:58 * 2 + 06:13:23 = 9:09:20 [shows end of Rahu Kalam]
09:09:20-01:27:58= 7:41:23 [shows start of Rahu Kalam]
So Oct 15th, Rahu Kalam starts at 7:41 AM and ends at 9:09 AM
Monday: x2
Tuesday: x7
Wednesday: x5
Thursday: x6
Friday: x4
Saturday: x3
Sunday: x8

Good Post. Appreciated.
Most of the South Indian Folks knows RahuKalam/Yama gandam/ Gulika Kalams by heart from tender age... so accordingly the auspicious things are done on that basis.

elipsisji,
your post is very informative. you have talked about all kind s of accidents and warned people of taking right steps when venturing out. but what about the other kinds of accidents. especially when a women marries the wrong person then also this should be termed as an accident . then how what does your precautions should be. its not always feasible to run with a the horoscopes to find the groom.

Diksha,
Matching horoscopes is probably the best solution to check for a happy married life, it takes 7 to 10 hours to complete a match making process, you cannot find a near 100% match but good astrologers recommend pre and post marriage remedies 90% of the time. In South India, there is a practice of checking the horoscopes before even checking the bride/groom out- orthodox families very much like it this way, they also wait for auspicious things to happen- like promotions, loan approval, new birth and stuff like that.
But not everyone does this, so the simplistic way would be to match the nakshatras- anyone can do this as its not so hard. So, the basic rules are like this
1. Avoid marrying the native of the same nakshatra or nakshatra lords, this is because the vimshottari dasa will be the same for both resulting in conflicts and difference of opinions. Friendly nakshatra lords usually indicate a positive sign- Saturn-Venus, Moon-Jupiter, Mercury-Saturn, Mercury-Venus etc
2. Never marry in Rahu kaal- this breaks even the most powerful charts.
3. Muhurta of the marriage- consult a priest for the best date and time for marriage. He basically checks 5 points known as Panchaka - Ththi, Vaara, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karna. Where as a professional astrologer goes over 500 different pointers.
So these are my three basic rules for marriage, but depending on your comfort level you can dig deeper and get a finer analysis.

I must admit and confess that your style of writing is as good as into the teaching of the subject in a lucid way.
Appreciated. I wonder in your chart Me in MT or exalted and is Jupiter is in its own sign?

Yeah...I have Mercury in the 10th and Jupiter in Sagittarius Ascendant and Saturn in the 11th. You know you make a fine astrologer yourself.

Trust me... Your writing is excellent and straight forward no ambiguity in that....
( My analysis was good without looking at your natal chart... BTW is your location away from India)

I would just like to draw your attention to two fire incidents that occurred today in India.
A. http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/shola ... rga-280438
B. http://www.ndtv.com/article/cities/fire ... eststories
These incidents satisfy my rules 1, 3, 7, and 8. I hope it helps you all to identify bad things as I won't be doing this always.
Good luck.

That was indeed attention drawn.... Good
But, you know many times it so happens, particularly in South India, Navratri "Gholu"... on Amavasya day God Idols are placed on the steps ( but not during Rahu Kalam) for 9 days+ 1 day Navratri Gholu... even I have seen many Orthodox South Indians for Marriage function, they make it a point to buy Dhotis( for Groom) and Nine yards Saree(for Bride) on a Amavasya day... belief is that deceased anchestors will bless the Bride & Groom

Ket ji,
You are right, Mahalaya amavasya is auspicious. Married women also circle the peepal tree 108 times on this day as it benefits the family.
Happy festivities.

On Amavasya & Shraddham.....
Once Maharshi Markandeya visited Sage Gomukh in Naimsharanya and discussed matters related to Pitras and Rituals for venerating the deceased souls.
First about the Pitras: While Lord Narayana is the Adi Guru and created Brahma, the latter created Sapta Rishis or Seven Sages (Brahma Manasa Puthras) and instructed them to worship him but instead they worshipped themselves and disobeyed Brahma’s oders. They were cursed that the knowledge acquired by them be forgotten. Eventually, the Seven Sages known as ‘Vimaniks’ procreated a number of sons. Pursuant to the death of the Seven Sages, the progeny performed Shraddhas by way of ‘Pindadaan’mantras to the deceased and the latter attained Swarga Loka. Of the Sapta Rishis, four of them such as Marichi were entitled to ‘Amrit’.The remaining three were not; some were sent to the Santanak Loka or Bhaswar Loka residents of which were ‘Amurthis’ or without Bodies ie. Chinmatra or Abhouthik category. Sages Sanatana, Kashyap, Vasu and so on belong to this classification. Some Pitras belong to another category viz. ‘Vairaj’, named after Prajapati Viraj and so on. [Sapta Rishis are stated to vary as per Manvantaras: The First Manvantara Group is mentioned as Marichi, Atri, Angirasa, Pulaha, Kratu, Pulasthya and Vasistha; in the Current Seventh Vaivasvata Manvantara, the Group is stated as Kashyapa, Atri, Vasishtha, Viswamitra, Gautami, Jamadagni and Bharadwaja]
Appropriate days for performing Kamya Shraddha include: the days when Uttarayan or Dakshinayan commence, during Solar/Lunar eclipses, if apprehended or experienced by evil influences of specific planet or constellation, when Sun changes its course from zodiac to another and so on. Days falling with Stars Anuradha, Visakha and Swati especially coinciding with Amavasya are considered auspicious.Similarly Shraddhas on Amavasya days coinciding with Stars of Pushya or Punarvasi are extremely auspicious to the ancestors and the Karthas (those who perform the Ceremonies). The third day of the bright half of Vaisakha month, the Ninth day of the bright half of Kartik, the thirteenth day of the dark half of Bhadrapad and Amavasya of Magha month are also commended for performing Kamya Shraddhas. Tarpana (Libation) to Pitras and Forefathers of three generations atleast constitutes as an essential component of Kamya Shraddha, besides physical and internal cleanliness. The Pitrugan keep expecting anxiously as to when would Rainy Season arrive in Makha Star, or when would Magha month’s Amavasya would come soon to quench the thirst of the departed souls! The Kartha ought to observe distinct mind, affordable charity, ample time and attention, devotion, Shraddha or Patience and dedication to satisfy the tormented souls!

Dear elipsis sir,
good afternoon.
I liked ur below statements very much.
never let planets define who you are - you should define what planets are supposed to do.
I do not believe everything is pre-destined
besides I liked ur article [how to avoid danger
Now my questions
Astrology is part of vedas and it was never meant just for predicting future
but just to guide and help normal human beings so that once they complete their earthly work
they reach a stage where they satrt devotion to God.
1] As per u and ur great teacher,
what are the general upayas or actions irrespective of kundli, which we must keep on doing regularly to pass life in better/prosperous way.
2] u have written what to avoid , but theer might be some good muhurats
which we should use , can u pls write those
thanks
