I have some very basic doubts regd some basic concepts like Moolatrikona, Exaltation, Debilitation & its effects. As per suggestion from Shilpa Ji, I am posting it here for benefit of all:-
1.1]Do we consider entire rashi as debilitation/exaltation sign or does debilitation/exaltation occur at degrees specified & in that particular nakshatra only?
1.2]Also what is meant by "Mars is debilitated upto 28 degree in Cancer" or "Venus is debilitated upto 27degrees in Virgo"?? What is this upto? Does this mean that Mars is debilitated upto 28degrees in Cancer & not debilitated in remaining 2 degrees?
1.3]Is Mars debilitated at 1degree in Cancer? By same logic, is Moon debilitated for all Scorpio Rashi people, even if say it's in 29deg Cancer?
Also if entire Rashi is to be considered, why do we say, 0-15deg of Virgo has Mercury Exalted, 16-20 is its Moolatrikona & remaining as its Swakshetra?
2.1] What happens when a functional malefic for a lagna is in
2.1.1]Exalted or Debilitated??
2.1.2]Moolatrikona??
2.1.3]Vargottama??
In other words, does Exaltation make a functional malefic even more malefic or is maleficence of functional malefic more pronounced when debilitated?
Example:- say for Dhanu Lagna, both Saturn & Venus are in Moola-1. Now for Dhanu Lagna, Saturn[2/3L] & Venus[6/11L] are both functional malefic. Saturn is Exalted Vargottama & Venus is Moolatrikona Vargottama. Will they become even more malefic or will they be appeased & shed their malefic nature, owing to the fact they are happy being in Exaltation/Moolatrikona/Vargottama Pada?
3)(a)What is the difference between Nakshatra Exchange & Sign Exchange between two planets?
3)(b)Does this exchange between two friends[Adhimitra or Mitra] or two enemies[Adhishatru or Shatru] make any difference?
4)What exactly is neechabhanga? Which of the following conditions satisfy it?
A)When a planet debilitated in D-1 is Exalted in D-9?
B)When in the house of debilitation, some other planet is exalted? Say in Libra, both Sa-Sun are conjunct.
Does it grant neechabhanga to Sun?
B-Subclause] For B above, does this need to be in Kendra/Kona from Lagna/Moon?
C]Does dispositor play a role in this? Say Sun Deb in Libra & its dispositor Venus is Exalted in Pisces?
D]Do degrees matter in neechabhanga?
E]Any other condition I might be missing out on.................
F]Can Saturn ever be Deeply Exalted/Debilitated as that point, its Debilitated/Exalted respectively in D-9?
What were the sages thinking when they gave Deep Exaltation/Debilitation Degree for Saturn?
Below are some findings which Shrikanth Ji has been extremely kind enough to share with me. I am posting below for benefit of all:-
I humbly request forum members & senior astrologers to please show utmost respect for each other[though I am neither qualified, nor knowledgeable enough to say this], hope we can have a health discussion & not debate/ego war. Posting my query here as per Shilpa Ji's advice in stead of seeking responses through PMs.Shrikanth wrote: Please note below observations were made by Shrikanth Ji, though I have clubbed 2-3 different responses together below
The planetary exaltation is maximum at the specified degree within the Exaltation Rasi. Like Sun 10 degrees, Moon 3 degrees. The other degrees it is exalted but not at its maximum.
Any planet (even dusthana) when placed in Moolatrikona or own house will strengthen them and render them auspicious.
But exaltation is not quite so. Functional benefics when exalted will elevate them immensely making them more auspicious and prosperous. But functional malefics will cause them to be more damaging when exalted.
Vargottama in Navamsa will deeply strengthen the significations of that planet associated with that Varga. When Venus is vargottama it can make the person very sophisticated, refined and quite passionate. Saturn hardworking Mercury intelligence etc.,
In the Rasi chart this exchange of 8 and 9 may not be that bad. May be the Father is settled away from home or involved in lots of expenditures, some element of misery and suffering.
In Navamsa - this is more sinister - loss of bhagya or fortune - can result in some sudden unexpected loss or problems, loss of loved ones, misery, misfortune.
I don't think the nature of planets would make much difference in these results.

Hope Astronewbies like me can learn something from this thread.
