Dear All

This is in reply to questions which people ask me as to whether they can adopt a child

Here are some combinations which indicate that a person may not be able to beget a child on his/her own but may go for adoption.

1) Ketu in the 12th to Jupiter

2) The 5th lord conjunct with the 6th, 8th or 12th lords and in Papakartari Yoga.

3) Atleast 2 of the 6, 8 and 12th lords associated with the 5th bhava.

4) The 5th to lagna being a house of mars (Holds good only for Dhanur and Karka Lagnas) occupied by Saturn and rahu.

5) 5th lord occupying a house of mercury and Jupiter being placed in one of the houses of mercury.

6) Saturn in the 5th, exchange of 1,5 lords and a weak Jupiter.

7) 5th lord and mercury conjunct in 6,8 or 12 and aspected by a Natural benefic.

8) 5th lord conjunct mars and aspected by saturn.

9) 8th lord in 5th, 5th lord in 12th and Jupiter in a kendra.

10) Saturn in the 5th with rahu in 4th or 12th conjunct Malefics.

11) The lord of 5th to the moon conjunct Venus and posited in Virgo and aspected by malefics

12) 7th lord in 5th conjunct malefics and Jupiter being powerful

If you have atleast 2 or 3 combinations from the above you are more likely to adopt a child.

Trust this helps

Thanks sir for an excellent post on a vexing topic.
On #8, what should be the position of Jup? 5th with Mars and aspected by Sat gives almost denial of progeny...:-(

Also sir, is this to be seen for both husband & wife, or even if one of them has the combo above, it will lead to adoption?

I wonder if Deepak can get hold of the Brangelina charts....that will be VERY interesting to see, what with the brood of adopted children!

Thanks once again.

PS: Ramanan sir, I was also thinking if Veerya house is weak [ say with merc+ketu aspected by Sun, or combust - something like that] , yet there is indication of child, i.e. either Bhava wise or Jup well placed?

A person should not be too honest. Straight trees are cut first and honest people are screwed first.

Dear Arun,

There may be more combinations. I agree. I just wrote what I cud recollect. All ur pointers make sense. It is sufficient that it is there in either of the charts but very strong without a caveat. Then, adoption naturally follows.

Ramanan ji,

Thanks for the nice post. I have a few questions. Kindly clarify.
1. I assume that the combinations are for the charts of the adopter. If a couple adopts a child, then is it necessary that both charts should show such combinations?
2. Is it for both male and female children? Many times references in classics relate more to male children.
3. Can the usual astro indicators (5th Bhava, 5th lord and Ju) show things relating to the adopted child, e.g, happiness from children?
4. Is the adopted child treated as valid for continuance of lineage? For e.g, there are some Shastyamsas that appear to indicate destruction of lineage. Does it mean the native will not get a child nor will he adopt one?

Yes. Not necessary but even in one person this will do but the other chart should show signs of denial of progeny.

Its for both male and female children

3. Can the usual astro indicators (5th Bhava, 5th lord and Ju) show things relating to the adopted child, e.g, happiness from children?

no. More often than not because these indicate normal progeny

4. Is the adopted child treated as valid for continuance of lineage? For e.g, there are some Shastyamsas that appear to indicate destruction of lineage. Does it mean the native will not get a child nor will he adopt one?
Actually no. But there are too many shastras which can talk a lot about who can be adopted so that the lineage continues. Refer Uttarakalaamrita

Ramanan ji,

few questions

1). regarding Point no. 4 would aspect of Saturn and Rahu suffice?
2). Can these combinations be applied from 9th house as well? 9th being 5th from 5th?
3). Do these combinations give a natural inclination to adopt a child,i.e., even before a person realises that he can not have a progeny of his own? I am asking this as I fulfill 3 of the above parameters ( 4 maybe, if my question no. 1 is answered in afiirmative?) and I have always had a strong urge to adopt a child. In fact I treat my Kid Cousins like kids only.

Dear Abishek,

1) Saturn and Rahu will suffice. But, there shd be no benefic influences.
2) Not from the 9th house.
3) Yes.

Since we are on topic of adoption-I want to know.

My cousins have adopted a baby boy when he was 45 days old. The institution has given the date of birth as December 30, 2010. What is the time and place we take to make his chart? or we take the time when he came to our place?

Ramananji,

Thanks for this informative post.

What happens if the Lagna or Rashi chart doesn't have any of these combinations, but Saptamansha for children is completely spoilt?

Does it mean that the person won't have any biological children but may adopt one?
