As spiritual life is nothing but acceptance of the life situations, astrology loses it's hold for them. (just my view!)

A famous tamil proverb:

"Naaya kanda Kalla Kanom” Kalla kanda Naaya Kanom;

(“Dog seen, stone is not seen; stone seen, dog is not seen.”)

The common meaning is that one cannot find a brickbat to throw at a stray dog!

But this popular saying has a much deeper significance. It is based on a following story:

A certain wealthy man’s house was closely guarded. It had also a ferocious dog chained to a pillar at the gate. The dog and the chain were however very skilful pieces of art. They were sculptured in stone but appeared life-like.
A pedestrian on the road once took fright at the sight of the ferocious animal and hurt himself in his attempt to dodge it. A kindly neighbour took pity on him and showed him that it was not a living dog. When the man passed by it the next time he admired the skill of the sculptor and forgot his old experience. Thus when he found it to be a dog, he could not see the stone of which it was made; and again when he found it a piece of sculpture he did not see any dog to hurt him.

Actually the interpretation of this verse is slightly different . The wood represents the essence/reality and the elephant represents the form. When the form is seen, reality is hidden. When reality is seen, form disappears in reality.

hasti hastasahasrena shatahastena vaajinah |
shringino dashahastena sthanatyagena durjanah ||

'One should keep a distance of a thousand hands from an elephant, a hundred from a horse, ten hands from a bull. But one must make himself scarce from even the vicinity of a fool/rogue. i.e. haul rose as quick as possible

hasti ankushmatrena vaaji hastena tadayate |
shringi lagudahastena khadgahastena durjanah ||

An elephant is controlled by the hook, a horse by the guiding hand, a bull is controlled by the goad, while a rogue is disciplined by the sword.

Scent in a flower, oil in sesame seed, fire in wood, ghee in milk, sugar (jaggery) in sugarcane and soul in the body, cannot be seen from without.

This one is brutal, but Swamy you might appreciate it:

"There are two ways to get rid of thorns and wicked persons; using footwear in the first case and in the second shaming them so that they cannot raise their faces again thus keeping them at a distance."

And:

"O ketki flower! Serpents live in your midst, you bear no edible fruits, your leaves are covered with thorns, you are crooked in growth, you thrive in mud, and you are not easily accessible. Still for your exceptional fragrance you are as dear as a kinsmen to others. Hence, a single excellence overcomes a multitude of blemishes."
