Using dasha lord as 1st house and reading chart

How useful is the technique of reading the chart from the current dasha lord ? What I mean is supposing I am running Rahu dasha currently. Can I keep the house where Rahu is present as 1st house and read the chart from that angle ? Is there anything in the scriptures that points to this way of thinking ?

It would be interesting to see if this works, but I wonder how. let's say if someone is going through the dasha of ketu, but 2nd lord from it is exalted. Now will the person feel the affect of the 2nd lord or will ketu overlap the results as it represents the opposite.
