Planets and the Private Banking Sector

Post by Haresh Kumar » 07 Jan 2016

A revolution has taken place, with entry of private banks, in India, in the last two decades , bringing new energy and vitality to the banking space, including the much needed efficiency and competition.

Studying the horoscope of those who head these private sector entities give us an insight into the state of these institutions and the cyclical state they are in.

Chanda Kochhar is currently the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ICICI Bank. ICICI Bank is India's largest private bank and overall fourth largest bank in the country.

Chanda Kochhar was born on 17.11.61 at Jodhpur India (26N18 73E02).

A noon chart shows powerful planetary placements and combinations
The Chandra Lagna chart is strong with Mercury and Venus conjoined in the ninth house a powerful Lakshmi Yoga. Mars and Sun are conjoined in the tenth house. Mars, Venus and Saturn are placed in their own house. Jupiter has obtained neechabhanga. These are planets which have taken her to the apex. Mercury, Venus and Mars key planets to look out for a banking career as also Jupiter who has obtained neechabhanga here and is well placed in the Navamsa and Dasamsa charts.

Kocchar joined Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India (ICICI) as a
management trainee after receiving her master's degree in 1984. During her early years at ICICI, she handled Project Appraisal and Monitoring and projects in various industries like textile, paper and cement.

It was in 1993 that she was sent a part of a core team to set up the bank. This roughly coincides with the start of the Mercury Dasa. Mercury as it seen is conjoined Venus forming a strong Lakshmi Yoga from the Moon.

Mercury Maha Dasa Venus Antar Dasa started roughly in late 1994 early1995.

She became Assistant General Manager in 1994. Deputy General Manager in 1996. (Mercury/Venus)

Under Kochhar's leadership, ICICI bank started
the Retail business in July 2000 and grew to become the largest retail financier in India within
the next five years.

After 1994 her promotions were fast. In April 2001, she took over as Executive Director. It took her ten years to get promoted to AGM, but suddenly within seven years beginning 1994, she got five successive promotions to become Executive Director.

Kochhar is CEO and MD of ICICI Bank from May 2009. This was during Kethu Maha Dasa and Venus Antar Dasa. She succeeded K.V. Kamath , who was CEO of the bank since 1996.

She reached a high watermark around 2010 and 2011 covered by Kethu Maha Dasa and Rahu and Jupiter Antar Dasas.

She has been featured in the Forbes 'Worlds 100 most Powerful Women in Business' at the number 10 slot in 2010. In 2010 she also receive the Padma Bhushan.

Currently she is running Venus Maha Dasa Venus Antar Dasa.

Transit Saturn is now transiting the tenth house from her Moon and is conjoined her Natal Sun and Mars. It is transiting in Vipat Tara. Jupiter will move into the eighth house on 11th August this year.

Other horoscopes with Kethu Dasa and Venus Dasa patterns (Harry Truman, Jimmy Carter, O.J. Simpson) have witnessed a rise from the start of Mercury a big impetus from Mercury MD Venus AD, a further rise from Kethu MD and Venus AD and high watermark in Kethu MD Rahu AD and a decline after that and a some type of end or closure after the start of Venus MD Venus AD. (Truman in 1951/52; Carter in 1979/80 ).

This could be a tough period for her and that of the Private Banking Sector in general. It could also indicate issues that were carried forward from 2011/12 could assume an element of urgency now.

Venus MD and Venus AD; in spite of the placement of Venus; could prove to problematic.

Developments in Mauritius, the Gulf and China could have a further impact.

Other private banks could come under the scanner. This is indicative of a whole cycle entering a tough phase before a period of renewal and resurgence takes place probably after three or four years.

Shikha Sharma is the Director & CEO of Axis Bank.

Set up in 1994, Axis Bank is India’s third largest Bank in the private sector in terms of total assets and is the 4th largest Bank in the country in terms of market capitalization. Shikha is also the Chairperson of Axis Asset Management Company Limited.
I

An MBA from IIM Ahmedabad, she also holds a post graduate degree in Software Technology.

Shikha Sharma was born on 19th November 1958. (Same birth date as Indira Gandhi). She has the Moon in Aquarius with the Sun in the tenth from there, along with Venus and Mercury. Jupiter is in the ninth and Saturn in the eleventh therefrom-- the ninth, tenth and the eleventh from Moon occupied by strong planets. Mars is in the third in its own house. A comparison can be made with the chart of Chanda Kochhar as they both have a similar career trajectory, and both began their career at ICICI and have worked for a considerable period in that organization. They also both assumed the helm at major private banks in 2009.

It may be noted that 2009 is a key year because because it marked the recovery of the markets from the financial crises of 2008. It was also in that year that Jupiter moved from the 12th house of their Janma Rasi Aquarius (Kumbh Rasi) to the first thereof, in the month of May. Shikha Sharma was appointed on 20th April 2009 as the MD & CEO of Axis Bank and Chanda Kochhar on 1st May 2009, as the CEO and Managing Director of ICICI Bank.

Like Chanda Kochhar she was born in November (Chanda Kochhar on the 17th and she on the 19th) with the Sun in Scorpio. Both have Moon in Aquarius (Kumbh Rasi). Both have the Sun in the house of Mars in the tenth from Moon. Both have Venus conjoined with Mercury. Both have Mars in its own house. Chanda Kochhar has her Mars in Scorpio and Shikha has her Mars in Aries.

In the Navamsa both have Mercury and Venus centered around Aquarius and Leo. Chanda Kochhar has Venus and Mercury in Aquarius and Shikha Sharma has Mercury in Aquarius and Venus in the opposite sign Leo. In both charts in the Navamsa the Rahu/Kethu axis is centered around Virgo and Pisces.

Both have Mercury debilitated in the Dasamsa. Venus in both Dasamsa charts are in the Aquarius / Leo Axis.

Shikha Sharma began her career with ICICI bank in 1980 and she had been with the bank for 29 years. In 1992 she was instrumental in setting up ICICI securities a joint venture with J.P. Morgan. She was later deputed to J.P. Morgan. She returned to ICICI in 1997 as the
Managing Director & CEO of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company. In 2008, during Shikha’s last year as the Managing Director and CEO of ICICI Prudential, the company’s market share was nearly 13% (new business annual premium equivalent); its closest competitor garnered 9.4%.

She has received many awards and distinctions including Businesswoman of the Year - Economic Times Awards – 2008 ; Forbes List of Asia’s 50 Power Business Women - 2012.

She was appointed MD and CEO of Axis Bank in 2009. Since her appointment the bank has witnessed phenomenal growth.

In the case of Shikha Sharma the noon chart does not seem to match which prima facie indicates that it could be well off with the birth time on either side of 12 noon. The nakshatra changes from Satabhisha to to Poorvabhadrapada at about 9.30 pm. Prima facie it could be an evening birth.

The transits however are similiar in both charts. Transit Saturn in both charts is transiting in the tenth from Moon conjunct natal Sun. In both cases Jupiter by transit will be moving into the eighth house from natal Moon on August 11th 2015 enhancing the propensity of Saturn.

The combined influences in both charts could indicate a problematic period for the private banking sector in the immediate future.

. Moneycontrol Bureau

76 percent to Rs 702 crore, impacted by exceptional provisioning of Rs 3,600 crore. Strong

Rana Kapoor Managing Director and CEO of Yes Bank was born on 9th Sept 1957 at New Delhi.

Like Chanda Kochhar and Shikha Sharma he has the Moon in Aquarius (Kumbh Rasi). A 12 noon chart has the running Dasa as Venus.

Saturn by transit is aspecting both natal Mars and the Sun in Leo, where Rahu is currently transiting. Jupiter moves into the 8th house from the Moon in mid August. Saturn is transiting in the 10th from Moon. These are very strong headwinds and problems could crop up in the last quarter of this year and the first quarter of the next.

There could be some vague misgivings or negative feedback which assume a concrete shape.
Conversely policy decisions in overseas countries could have a negative impact on the bank. Issues carried forward from 2007/08 could assume an unstoppable momentum.

Mercury is retrograde in Virgo. The Sun enters Virgo in mid Sept.

September, October and November are historically volatile months for the markets with sharp ups and down.

The crowding of influences in Virgo, could have a cloud effect and could impact private sector banks. There are some unresolved issues which are being glossed over which could assume prominence now.

Hello Haresh ji,

Is it a common pattern that people rise in mer ven and then in ketu-ven and then by the end of ven -ven, career ends?
I am letting go of the thoughts that do not make me strong.

Hi,

There are recurring patterns ( and variations) which are found in the life events of so many people. This one with Mercury/Venus plus and Venus / Venus fall fits in many horoscope. This could impact Bashar Assad (some slight fine tuning in his birth time is required as there is none) when Saturn moves into the 10th from his Moon. That could in turn impact Putin. So it is like a domino. Some adjustment is required then there will be a perfect fit. They fit in with the arc of ones career. However the placement of planets, and aspects as well as the Lagna and Moon are very important. There is always a plus minus factor.. The Nadi readings place a lot of importance on the precise degree of the Lagna, and they give a precise arc of ups and down of a persons career and dovetail it some times with the transits of Saturn and Jupiter. They sometimes give a political background of events while interpreting the chart of a common man. That is so fascinating. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Everything is interlinked. One cannot interpret effectively without a background of the person. Some do so but they are rare gifted people. You have to keep looking and then suddenly everything falls into place including the transits. It has to fit in. The ancients knew that. One can learn so much just by reading the Nadi interpretations. Wishing you the very best. Best regards.

Good job on the banking sector woes + Chanda & Shikha !

Any thoughts about the timing, since it appears later by about 18-24 months? Even though the finances of the banks have not been great, the personal reputation of these two ladies have only been tarnished in last month or so.

Hi ,

Actually if you look at my post on 28th April 2016 you can see that the slide had already started in right earnest.

Since then it has been common knowledge in financial circles. Even when Shikha Sharma's term had recently been extended there were many eye brows raised, but now that has been reversed.

In fact it had started much earlier. I had nailed the years of the trouble originating from around 2011/2012 as you can see in my post dated 7th January 2016. That was in fact the time Videocon got the funds from the consortium of banks.

https://www.firstpost.com/business/vide ... 10525.html

Now Yes Bank will come out with a big surprise. It will be a very bad period for Rana Kapoor. This is going to have a domino impact on other private banks and even some pedigreed names will come out with surprises.

Best regards.

This could be a tough period for her and that of the Private Banking Sector in
general. It could also indicate issues that were carried forward from 2011/12
could assume an element of urgency now.

Wow, Haresh. some brilliant analysis there..

What do you think of Uday Kotak and Ajay Banga - CEO of Mastercard - he has had a stupendous rise in his career. His date of birth I think is 14th May 1960 in Kharadi, Pune.

Also, is the trajectory different for government and private banks ?
