My saturn-mars dasha & its effect on my health

Post by Waterbearer » 03 Oct 2011

I have my saturn-mars dasha going on, at first I thought it would not mean any health problems as I am an acquarius rising & which makes saturn my ascendant lord. I met an astrologer who is very well known & experienced some days back & he said that my saturn is retrogade & hence its malefic. I am still investigating if retrogade planets become opposite of their benefic or malefic nature or its just a myth.

Since yesterday, my chronic problems of tiredness, drowsiness etc have exalted from mild to very annoying & I have a cold which is unlike any common cold & the headache is unbearable, to say the least.

Of course, i am going to a doctor tommorow but is there anything that I can do astrologically or in terms of remedies to evade this

Astrologically speaking, my kemadruma/lonely moon which is also the lord of my 6th house of diseases is placed in my 1st house. Since moon is watery, its one of the primary sources of my cold.
Also, my tithi is krishna navami which means that my moon is a waning moon & hence even more malefic.

saturn & mars are conjunt & placed in my 9th house , libra. saturn is exalted & consequently its malefic nature is also exalted.
libra= stomach which is not a majot problem at the moment
& 9th house = thighs & hips, no problem in that area at the moment

saturn is the lord of 1st house & 12th house of health & death respectively & its nature of diseases is chronic.

mars is the lord of 3rd & 10t house & its nature when it comes to disease is acute.

mars also aspects my 6th house by its 8th house aspect.

mars aspects my 12th house by its 4th house aspect, saturn does the same wth a 3/4th aspect.

Together, saturn & mars aspect mercury & also the 3rd house, which also has its moolatrikona house, virgo as my 8th house.

I am too tired to speculate more, I am not in panic, though in pain but the nature of planetary combinatons is a little extreme. I had one such extreme cold+headache a few weeks back but this is more annoying than that. Is it something that I should be concerned about?

The dasha within saturn-mars is mercury(lord of my 8th house) lunar calendar/359.017 days wise, this is a n approximate calcualtion.

Waterbearer,

You have given detailed calculations, but you have not given your time of birth.

Please give your time of birth.

Waterbearer,

According to the Dasha table I have generated, you are going through Saturn-Mars-Rahu till 15th Oct.

In your chart, Rahu is good in its own but is placed with Sun. In Gochar, Rahu is malefic in your 10th house.

Retrograde Saturn is more powerful in your case, because it is at a high degree of 17 and is going towards the zenith of Libra sign. To top that, it is exalted.

Exalted Lagna lord in 9th should be good for you in some cases, but it aspects your 11th house negatively. Its aspect on 3rd and Mercury is not bad.

It actually controls your illnesses by aspecting your 6th house. However, because of Mars affliction it is not able to give full effect. Mars has adverse aspect on 4th house and Rahu and Venus there. Besides, in Gochar, Saturn has become combust till 31st of Oct.

In Gochar, when Saturn moves into Libra in mid-November, your health problems will diminish. However, Saturn-Mars Dasha will be problematic because they afflict each other in Lagna chart.

You have judged correctly that Moon in Lagna is causing the cold related problems in Saturn-Mars Dasha.

Do Hanuman Chalisa daily. Offer sindur (vermillion) to Hanuman on Tuesdays. Pray to Goddess Durga daily, lighting ghee or lemon lamps, whichever convenient.

Recite Mahamrityunjaya Mantra 51 times daily. Recite Lakshmi Narasimha Stotra daily.

Do the retrograde planets give the effect of its previous house? In this chart that would b the 8th house of chronic illness???? Just a thought, apart from all the other factors that you both have mentioned.

Also Rahu in the 4th disturbs mental peace, combined with the dasa of the 12th lord, could be psychological in nature as well. See if there is some improvement post 9th Oct.

No, Saturn is close to mid-point in Libra. I don't think it should give the effect of 8th house.

Saindhavi, thanks a ton for replying. I will employ the remedies.

I hope you don't mind me asking some questions so that I can learn more.

You said that it aspects my 11th house negatively but its aspect on 3rd house & mercury is not bad. If retrogade saturn is malefic by nature, shouldn't all its aspects be negative? That is, its aspects on benefic houses should diminish their benefic nature & its aspect on malefic houses should increase their malefic nature?

gochara wise, if saturn is in 8, it means a malefic is in a malefic house, if it goes to 9th, the malefic is exalted & hence will cause malefic problems, does this seem right?

While this question may be more appropriate for a thread specefically about 'functional benefics & malefics' I will jsut ask you here if you don't mind, do you just consider house 6,8,12 to be bad? or do you also consider 3 or 11 as well?
As I understand, there is a lot of disagreement between vedic scholars on which planets are functional malefics or benefics. I do follow the rule that rulers of 4,7,10 become malefic from benefic & vice versa.
In short, for an acquarius rising, assuming that no planets are retrogade, which planets do you deem as functional malefic?

How does a malefic saturn reduce my illness by aspecting my 6th house?
Also, when saturn moves to libra, shouldn't my health problems be more instead of becoming less as a malefic is being exalted?

And lastly, are you using 365 days or 365.25 days or dasha? & which software are you using?

No planet is completely malefic or benefic except Jupiter, who is either benefic or neutral.

I said your retrograde Saturn is stronger because of its retrograde motion. I didn't say it's a malefic. Stronger does not mean either malefic or benefic. It means more powerful - it can be either malefic or benefic, depending on the situation.

I did say Saturn in your chart is benefic in some ways.

You have to see whether any planet has a favourable or adverse aspect on a house to understand whether it will give powerful or weak effect. Powerful or weak effect can be good or bad, depending upon the house.

Energies of Saturn and Mercury are favourable to each other. Saturn's aspect on Mercury is favourable. Moreover, Saturn's aspect on 3rd house in Aries is good as it keeps the malefic effects of this house under control. Mars' aspect on 3rd house in Aries would be bad, because Mars owns this house and is therefore, compelled to activate the negative effects of this house. On the other hand, Saturn is compelled to check the activation of this house in your chart. Hence, Mars' aspect has to be subdued and Saturn's aspect on your 3rd house has to be enhanced.

For example, if your Saturn had aspected your 3rd house in say, Aquarius and Mars had been conjunct with it, aspecting the same 3rd house. In this case, Saturn would have been under compulsion to give the negative effects of this 3rd house, since it would have been his own house. Mars on the other hand, would have been under compulsion to control it.

In a 3rd example, if both Saturn and Mars were aspecting Capricorn in your 3rd house, then they both would have been under compulsion to activate the energies of this house - despite being inimical to each other, they would have given same effect of 3rd house.

To this, the Nakshatra sytem refines further the degree of adverse or favourable effect a planet would have on this house. Saturn in Sun's Nakshatra would have a lowered effect for example, while Saturn in its own Nakshatra would have a stronger effect. However, Saturn would still give the effect of a 3rd house in Aquarius or Capricorn and control it in Aries. Only the degree of its effect will vary.

This is not a question of whether Saturn or Mars is a benefic or whether 3rd house is a malefic or a benefic. It's a question of what kind of relation exists between Saturn/Mars and a particular house.

You have to first stop thinking of planets as eternal malefics or eternal benefics and begin seeing how their energies are activating the houses they are aspecting.

Now you can see why Saturn controls your illnesses in your 6th house - it has an inimical aspect on it. Hence, it controls the effects of this house. This will vary in every single case.

Only 3rd, 6th, 8th and 12h houses have negative effects. However, each of these houses also have some positive significances, which can get activated depending upon the nature of planetary aspect they are getting and upon the kinds of decisions a native takes in his/her life to avoid negative energies of these houses.

For example, 6th house signifies illnesses, conflicts, enemies etc. But it also signifies charity, social work and service to the masses. If a native's 6th house is extra powerful by having for example, an exalted planet there, the negative energies of this 6th house can be checked if the native engages in charity and service to the masses. Failing to do so will result in giving the negative effects of this 6th house.

Whether the native will actually decide to derive the positive energies of such a powerful 6th house, thus controlling the negative effects, depends upon the will of the native and also on the Destiny he or she is supposed to fulfill. This is something no astrologer can forecast.

In your case, this doesn't apply, because Saturn controls your 6th house. But I gave this example to explain the signification of a so-called "malefic" house.

Hi Sandhavi,

I said that I had gone to an astrologer who told me that my saturn is retrogade & hence its bad. Now, I am not saying that he is right & everyone else is not. I believe that my retrogade saturn is malefic because that is what it seems from the things that have been happening to me. I intend to rely more on practical events rather than theory, though theory is obviously very important.

I have been jobless since about 5 years, & unsuccessfull in whatever endeavours that I have been trying to indulge in, also having a lot of minor(& sometimes moderate) but chronic health problems. I lost a very huge amount of money in the share market, not just money that I earned long time back when i was working, but also my family's money.

Also, saturn extaled in 9th house, gives me a mahapurush yoga ( if i am not mistaken with the exact name) & I am in satrun's dasha, but what I have experienced is the exact opposite of being a mahapurush- feeling tired all the time, lack of energy etc

I also don't blame everything on the planets, I am responsible for my decisions & actions but if someone has good yogas & is sincerely striving towards his goals, he must get results.

-----------------
Thanks for the examples about relationships.

is there any particular book that you recommend ?

I have a huge collection & yet I am getting confused about somethings. Parashra says something different, B.V raman says soemthing diferent & V.K choudhary has another view. Although I would definitely give more importance to parashra as he has more authority, books with examples are from other auhors which tends to be confusing & hence even annoying.

The main books that I m reading are- Light on life by Fow & Svobova & books by BV raman. I also intend to read BPHS slowly.

Waterbearer,

Sorry, I have been preoccupied with some other matters, hence did not respond earlier.

First, yes, Lagna Lord exalted in 9th does give you a great opportunity to rise in life. But your Lagna Lord is afflicted with its enemy Mars - who is also retrograde.

As I said, it's not your Saturn that is a problem, it's your Mars afflicting your Saturn, increasing the power of 3rd house and blocking the good effects of 9th house that is the problem.

Your Saturn is not able to give you full effects because of Mars affliction.

Second, your illnesses have been moderate precisely because Saturn diminishes your illnesses in 6th house. If Saturn was not aspecting your 6h house, then 6th house ruler Moon in adverse house of Ascendant would have caused severe chronic illnesses. The degree of your illnesses is moderate because of Saturn's aspect on 6th. Saturn has not been able to completely control your illnesses because of Mars affliction.

If Mars was not afflicting your Saturn, you would have enjoyed good health and good rise in career.

Apart from this, you should also see the Gochar of the last 5 years for significant dates of events in your life. I am sure that more than Saturn, it's Rahu-Ketu and Mars who have affected your career and finances. For short periods your Saturn's transit may have affected you, but Saturn is not a chronic problem in your chart. It's rather good for you.

About books, if you say you rely on practical evidences, then once you get your fundamentals clear from any standard book, you should not confuse yourself with theories in books, because theories have not been tested even in many well-known books before writing. Get your fundamentals clear and then practise from real-life charts.

At the moment it seems you have read a lot and have got confused. Your fundamentals are not clear.

Hanumannature,

Your Saturn is adversely aspecting your Ascendant and you are running Saturn Mahadasha. Your Saturn also adversely aspects your 5th house of intellect. Jupiter is weak.

Forget about physical illnesses. This can lead to severe psychological disorders, wrong judgments and manic depression, especially with a malefic Rahu.

Some of it is already evident. If you don't go for psychological counselling, by 2019 when you finish Saturn Mahadasha, especially after Saturn-Rahu, you are likely to be a psychiatric case.

It's your wish whether you take my reading or not. This is the way I read your chart and I am not a Goddess. I don't change anyone's destiny.

I have already told you all this when I read the 2 charts you sent.

Of course, Rahu is benefic in some places and I have explained this to you already in the 2 charts. No planet is completely malefic or benefic except Jupiter, who is either benefic or neutral. Your friend's Rahu is very benefic for his marriage. His Rahu has helped him in marriage and it will also protect him in marriage, along with Jupiter. I know others have different opinion about it.

Read all my readings of the two charts. I don't want to repeat what I have already said.

Hello, its not you but me who should aplogize for replying late; I am sorry, I didn't receive notficiation of your post in my email. & Thank you so much again for replying.

I have a question about mars, mars is the 3rd lord & applying temporal relationships he is conjunct with saturn who becomes his great enemy (from just enemy) & is in the house of venus, who after applying temporal relationships becomes his enemy from neutral. Hence, he adversely affects both his great enemy saturn & the house of his enemy, libra.

But is there any positive aspect to this placement? I am asking this, because despite the above mentioned things, mars is the lord of 10th & he is in 9t. So there must be some positive aspect about this, right?
That being said, mars is in 12th from 10th, so again there is a negative aspect to that very same placement, but shouldnt 10th lord in 9 be positive in someway?

And since mars rules both 3 & 10, shouldn't it be somewhat neutral? As though 3rd rulerships may be bad, but malefics ruling kendras become benefics. I know that its moolatrikona is in 3rd & hence it will be primarily detrimental but there should be some positive aspect, right?

About Rahu-Ketu, if you don't mind me asking, how can you say that exalted Rahu-Ketu are bad in my natal chart? They are shadowy and they take the place of their dispositors but how is this bad?

You are right, I was confused about basics, its because all books say different things & I was also seeing planets as just benefic or malefic. I have revised my basics & now I am studying horoscopes of famous personalites & soon would be making horoscopes of family.

& lastly, sorry for so many questions, again.

Hello, I also had the same notion before but according to the book 'Light on life', exalted planets may do exalted harm. The best place for any planet is its moolatrikona sign. There is no moolatrikona specified for rahu & ketu, but they have been said to rule Acquarius & Aries respectively.

I do not know many technical details...i don't even know what mooltrkon is or which the houses of Acq n Aries are, but i was told by a few that if ketu/rahu are in 1/7 n exalted, the negative effects will be reduced..
i do not know which aspects of life u r looking for though!!
There was another post where members were discussing if malefics in exalted position will give exalted bad effects or vice-versa..will post the link if i can find it...

Actually, I had a diff mental imagery for the debilitation and exaltation of malefics. To use the same analogy, exaltation is Al Pacino in Sicily, surrounded by Tessa and Clemenza and Tom hagan - can do as much evil as he pleases.

In Debilitation, its the same Al pacino in the church [ was is part 3?] where he has a sombre chat with the priest and pops in pills after a bout of coughing. He's still evil, but less active. He needs strengthening before he can do damae, whereas in Exaltation, he is fully armed and dangerous.
