Good Link on Reading Divisional Charts

Post by Khoo Hock Leong » 04 Sep 2015

Hi

The link provides all the points that I have been discussing about reading divisional charts from various karya houses (like the multiplication factors of the divisional number or the divisional number divided by 12 and get the remainder etc.) and from various vantage points (like bhavat bhavam from karakas) as well as planetary cycles and tying in all three aforesaid mentioned into a synthetic hole and tying two way between Rasi Chart and the rest of the divisionals and how Sun relates to the lower divisional and Moon relates to the higher divisional.

Do have a look at it.

The blog also points to our various posts in our forums - this is what I call two way learning - they learning from us and we learning from them.

Also note that things like houses and lords in divisionals are understood to be given.....no argument from that angle..... as I said .... there must be harmony from above and harmony from below for all things and especially those that are spiritual and especially so for astrology ...........one mantra which I quoted in an earlier post epitomizes and emphasizes that.

Happy reading.

Thanks.

Note also how the astrologer points out that the 7th house has to do with PhD Education due to

D24 = 4 x 6

meaning the octave house for D24 is the 4th house and then you take 6 houses away............why not 6 x 4.....because the 4th house is the basic house of education......

The 3rd last paragraph there is a printing error........it should read as.....

"4th, 9th, 2nd & 7th...."

The fourth digit should be a "7" and not not a "9" to refer to the 7th house for PhD Education (that is the author's intention since earlier paragraphs he (or she) mention already 7th bhava has to deal with PhD).

Another point as mentioned by the author is this.......

Although divisionals may command a lower weightage as explained by some astrologers in this forum as compared to the Rasi (D-1) chart.......but if you look at the author's logic and reasoning....by using the divisional chart, you can actually separate some of the issues under study for that particular bhava instead of just using that bhava in the Rasi Chart.

For example....vehicle should be D16 and fixed assets would be D4.....but just relying on the 4th bhava in the Rasi Chart you may not be able to separate the wood from the trees. In fact the author starts from the divisional chart first when the study is for a particular issue then he (or she) would work himself (or herself) up to the Rasi and Navamsa.

(Navamsa is stressed for giving manifestation to the Rasi Chart).

Thanks.

Actually if you take :

D24 = 6 x 4

where 6 stands for Siddhi and perfection and 4 for 4 houses away (this method is discussed in the article) it shows how good a progress the person can make in any education endeavour he undertakes.

So progression is shown from the 6th to the 10th (for accomplishments) to the 2nd (where you can call up the knowledge to your fingertips).

Thanks.

One of the points mentioned is that the planet which is on the Ascendant in the Rasi Chart, and if it rules the Lagnas of Good Divisional Charts like D9, the person is fortunate. On the other hand if the planet rules a lot of Lagnas of Bad Divisional Charts like D6, D8 or D30, then the person has challenges to overcome.

Two points can be inferred from the article :

(1) D45 is a super duper chart since 45 = 5 x 9 or 9 x 5. All dharmic houses are emphasised whether you start from 5th and move 9 houses away or start from 9th and move 5 houses away. Also dividing 45 by 12 gives a remainder of 9 and so 9th house is again emphasised. The person who has a planet in the Rasi D-1 Ascendant ruling the Lagna of the D45 divisional chart, has divinatory powers.

(2) D24 can be considered as 12 x 2 or 2 x 12 or 8 x 3 or 3 x 8 or 4 x 6 or 6 x 4 (remember each pattern of a pair of multiplicators carries a different meaning). So if you have that planet ruling the Lagna of D24 in your Rasi D-1 Ascendant, you are very intelligent.

(3) For the higher harmonic charts, the difference betwwen a good and bad chart can be blurred. For example D40 = 8 x 5 or 5 x 8, 8 standing for the 8th bhava which is a dusthana, but 5 standing for the 5th bhava which is a good trinal house. Even D30 which is considered a so called bad divisional chart is actually made up of 6 x 5 or 5 x 6 or 3 x 10 or 10 x 3 and we know again 5 and 10 which stands for the 5th and 10th bhavas respectively are good. Note that because the remainder of dividing 30 by 12 is 6 so the the MAIN multiplicator pair would be 6 x 5 ie. starting from the 6th bhava and then you move 5 houses away which actually stands for diseases and obstacles introduced into your karma and your birth into the family in your next life.

Remember that Jupiter is the karaka for higher education and wisdom and Mercury is the karaka for learning. This stays the same across all divisional charts regardless of the educational level one is talking about and regardless whether you are talking about D24 or some other divisional charts.

But Mercury is the main karaka for D24 and the primary karya house for D24 is the 12th bhava is. the remainder zero (which stands for 12) after dividing 24 by 12. Learning always mean unlearn in - the 12th bhava.

Note that Venus is the karaka for HIGHER LEARNING in contrast to higher education for Jupiter. Education implies an interaction between teacher and student but Saraswati takes over in the case of Venus and the person has to interact with others to gain the process of knowledge guided by the Goddess.

Mercury and Venus are the flip sides to the coin in learning. Remember wherever you see Mercury, there is always Venus guiding him behind his back. The only time when Mercury is guiding Venus is when Venus is about to enter into the Sun ie. when Venus is an evening star.

Also notice for D24 :

D24 = 12 x 2

This shows the even houses (because of the x2 meaning two houses away each time, starting from the 12th house), comprising shakti (the female primordial energy), plays a large part in the process of learning.

Thanks.

Note that 12 x 2 is the main multiplicator pair for D-12 because 12 is the primary karya house for D12 as explained earlier.

Note also the planet in the divine navamsas 1st, 4th and 7th of a sign as explained in Wikipedia and some Web sites, if that same planet is ruing Lagnas of good divisional charts like D9 or D45, it will further boost the expansiveness of goodness.

If the planet is ruling the Lagnas of bad divisional charts, and the planet is placed in the divine navamsas as explained above, it would help you tide over the difficulties.

Note also Jupiter can refer to the guru within us. Education is thus different from learning in the ancient lore.

D27 has a lot to do with the 11th bhava of gains.

27= 3 x 9 meaning starting from the 3rd house and moving 9 houses away, you arrive at the 11th house.

27 = 9 x 3 meaning starting from the 9th house and moving 3 houses away, again you arrive at the 11th house.

So the 3rd, 9th and 11th houses are involved.

The 3rd-9th axis gives original and new ideas, skills and your overall understanding and philosophy of life (unlike the 5th which rules mental prowess). So D27 shows the importance of having a good mind, body and spirit in action in order to achieve gains in life.

Where is the Lagna ruler of D27 placed in your Rasi D-1 chart? If it is on the 10th, you apply it in your work. In the 8th, you apply in your research work etc.

The outcome is great gains for you.

Regarding D24 which I wrote earlier about 12 x 2. There is a slight error. Let me explain.

From the 12th house, you move 2 houses away. So it is from the 12th to the 1st then to the 2nd then to the 3rd....etc. instead of what I stated earlier. 2 houses away mean starting from the 12th which is considered 1 house away, then you going to the 1st house, which is the next house in sequence after the 12th ie. 2 houses away, just like the 2nd house is 2 houses away from the Lagna : Lagna is considered the 1st house.

So 12 x 2 means....12th, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th etc.......

2 stands for the feminine energy of Shakhti, it is the number of the Moon. So Shakhti energy gives rise to something out of nothing....just like we astrologers always consider the 12th to a Bhava A as a loss of Bhava A but once we go clockwise, then Bhava A is produced.

That much for the rectification.

Besides that.....

24 is also 6 x 4 and 4 x 6.......you start from the 6th house and move 4 houses away or you start from the 4th house and move 6 houses away......you end up on the 9th house.

D24 which stands for education, thus is one of the ways according to scriptures to reach God.....besides Yoga, charity etc..

D24 also stands for Siddhi, the ability to reach a stage where you have God given powers as represented by the 9th.

24 is also 8 x and 3 x 8.........starting from the 3rd you move 8 houses away and end up in the 10th or starting from the 8th you move 3 houses away and again you end up in the 3rd......the 10th house of accomplishment is emphasised.

D24 combines both the dharma 9th house and the karma 10th house...........dharma remaking karma......as you study the scriptures, your whole life invariably changes.............

If you notice all the lower divisional charts as represented by the Moon, it is quite obvious which are the bad divisional charts and which are the good divisional charts like D6 is generally bad or D9 is generally good (but remember the trines in these charts would either the lessen the bad for the bad charts or increase the good in the good charts, the dusthanas in these charts would be the other way round : increasing the bad in the bad charts and lessen the good in the bad charts).

But for the higher divisional charts as coming under the purview of the Sun, even D30, a bad chart can be considered good from another angle (remember the Sun represents leadership to others to groom others from their good points and downplay their bad points).

For example D30.....

30 = 6 x 5 or 5 x 6.....starting from the 6th you move 5 houses away you end up in the 10th or starting from the 5th you move 6 houses away again you end up in the 10th.......

You can overcome obstacles to reach a stage of perfection.....

Yet because

30 = 10 x 3 or 3 x 10.....you can also leave your world material accomplishments (10th) behind and immerse yourself in a spiritual life (the 12th)......... Venus (6th, 12th and also 10th - remember Venus plays a large part of D10 according to the classics unearth by Saptarishis Magazine), Saturn (10th, 12th, 6th) and Ketu (12th, 6th, 10th) all are planets involved in the tapasi yoga (yoga of great penance).

The energies of D30 if harness properly, can give great ascetic powers too, but most ordinary mortals cannot handle the energy.

Remember earlier on I told you Mercury is the karaka for learning Jupiter is the karaka for education.........

But Mercury in certain houses like the 4th which stands for education, Mercury would try to emulate Jupiter.....so Mercury in the 4th represents education.....Mercury in the 3rd on the other hand stands for learning.....

One must distinguish between the fixed karakatwas......and placements of planets in bhavas and their functional rulership........

Such are the subtleties of Vedic Astrology.

Let also have a look on the 11th Bhava in all divisional charts.

Since the divisional charts is on a Jartaka (individual), so divisional charts invariably has a link with the D1 (representing the overall life of the native) and a link with the Navamsa (representing events and affairs manifestation) although they are not as dependent as the carriages of a locomotive - they do have a life of their own; that is why we can also start analyzing from the divisional charts first.

Thus even in a bad chart like D6 or D30, the 11th bhava does not represent gains to the badness of that aspect of the individual life. It represents a gains to the individual - something like part of the package of the overall gains of the individual. Thus planets placed in the 11th bhava of ALL divisional charts can be considered good.

Using this technique we can understand why Parasara said that Cancer can be taken as an Ascendant and so does D60 and so does D45 even if Parasara did not mention about this technique (remember when I first came to this forum I said that only if Parasara FORBIDS it, then we cannot use this method).

D60 = 12 x 5 or 5 x 12 so it all converges to the 4th house which is the natural house for the sign Cancer (starting from 12th and counting 5 houses away or starting from 5th and counting 12 houses away).

D45 = 9 x 5 or 5 x 9 so it converges to the Ascendant (starting from 9th and counting 5 houses away or starting from 5th and counting 9 houses away).

Additional points are in order :

(1) To use the above technique ie. the ruler of the Lagna of the respective divisional chart and see where it is placed in the Rasi D-1 chart, use only the traditional divisional charts propounded by Parasara or the classics like those for D2, D3 and D11 where many versions exist.

The planet in the Lagna shows the areas covered by that planet acting as ruler of the Lagnas of the divisional charts, if any, assume great importance in the native's life. If the planet is not found in the Lagna, it would still be placed somewhere else in the Rasi Chart and ruling certain bhavas in the Rasi Chart. Those areas under the purview of the said bhavas ruled by the said planet would be affected by those areas covered by those respective divisional charts whose respective lagnas are ruled by the said planet.

Navamsa would be read together with the Rasi Chart to corroborate it OR NOT. Same functional ruler for a particular bhava under Navamsa and Rasi would mean double impact by the said divisional charts. (Vargottam is a special case where all the bhavas have the same functional ruler and same sign). In the case of the mate, reading from the Navamsa would take precedence, just like in the case of children, reading from the Saptamsa would take precedence.

(2) Note that for D10, the planet ruling the 10th bhava is more important than the one ruling the Lagna.

The interesting thing is D16.

16 = 4 x 4, so starting from the 4th bhava you go to the 7th bhava (4 houses away).

This means starting from a small proprietorship (4th bhava) your endeavour grows to a big conglomerate (7th bhava).

4th and 7th also shows the nectar of life which is for your fulfillment because Moon is the karaka for the 4th and Venus is the karaka for the 7th.

Planets well placed here is good for arranged marriages or you can pick and choose your bride since the 4th bhava represent the masses and 7th bhava is marriage. The planet ruling the Lagna of D16 must be carefully scrutinised in the Rasi Chart.

You may be wondering why Parasara never included D5 in all the various packages of divisional charts that he propose.

The thing is D9 covers the 5th bhava as well and that is why we can read children from the Navamsa too and Navamsa also shows our intelligence.

9 = 3 x 3

From the 3rd bhava you move 3 houses away.......and you end up being on the 5th bhava.

The D9 is something like a super chart.....incorporating D5.

D9 shows also our mate but that is not due to the multiplication formula which we have discussing....rather because the 7th bhava is 11th to the 9th and shows the gains of our dharma by acquiring a mate (we have discussed this before)......we are not born with a mate from birth. 9th bava is subservient to the 7th bhava just like the Ascendant in Rasi D-1 is subservient to the 11th bhava.......we are always preoccupied by matters pertaining to the 11th bhava like luxuries and income from our main profession.

We already know that the sign on the 10th bhava in D10 is more important than the Lagna of D10 in representing the D10. So we look to the planet ruling the 10th in D10 and see where it is placed in the Rasi D-1 chart. This planet represents the WHOLE of D10 ie. any issue of D10. The 10th of D10 takes over the Lagna of D10.

On the other hand we also accord more importance to the planet ruling the 7th bhava in Navamsa rather than the planet ruling the Lagna in Navamsa as representing the wife.....although the Lagna also represents the wife because D9 is an expansion of the 9th bhava in the Rasi D-1 chart.......and 9th being 3rd to the 7th shows the first step your wife takes in CHOOSING YOU as a mate..... so it shows her attributes. But the main house representing the wife in Navamsa is still the 7th bhava.....and 7th being 11th to the 9th within Navamsa, shows the gains you get in dharma through the successful getting of a wife. So 7th in Navamsa is very important.

The planet ruling the 7th bhava in Navamsa.....see where it is placed in Rasi D-1......would show your wife connection to you in which area of life most - on a mundane level. The planet ruling the Lagna of Navamsa shows the attributes of your wife (besides the sign on your 9th bhava in Rasi D-1 chart). Where this planet is placed in the Rasi D-1 chart shows how her attributes affect you in your life.

Note : Only the 7th bhava in Navamsa is more important for the wife (or mate). If you are delineating other things about the Navamsa using the method discuss in this thread ie. transposing the planet ruling the Lagna of the said divisional chart onto the Rasi D-1 chart, use the planet ruling the Lagna of Navamsa like father, fortune and even children. But if you are analyzing within Navamsa independently or transposing from Rasi D-1 chart to Navamsa, then you go for the specific karya house.

So Navamsa analysis using the technique in this thread is different from that of Dasamsa where you always use the sign on the 10th bhava where both in turn are diffeent from the other divisional charts (save Saptiamsa which is exactly the same as what I have said about Navamsa for the wife.....except in Saptiamsa we are seeing children from the 5th bhava.....but any other issues from Saptiamsa like sexual compatibility, progress in the world, business etc. all 7th house issues....you would look at the planet ruling the Lagna of Saptiamsa using the technique discuss in this thread....other techniques then is a different story as mentioned earlier).

Note : The planet ruling the 5th bhava of D7 represents your children's impact on your life in mundane life. The Lagna of D7 and the planet ruling it represent how the attributes of your children affect your life (besides the 7th bhava in your Rasi D-1 chart).

Parasara has proposed two D2 - the Traditional Parasara hora using only Cancer and Leo and the Parasara Hora with parivritti and even sign reversal known as Uma-Shambhu.

Use the latter one. Jhora has both.

Uma-Shambhu was taught to most Western Vedic Astrologers and some does not even know that the Traiditional Parasara hora exist.

For the D11, use Ekadasamsa rather than Rudramsa proposed by Sanjay Rath.

Although Ekadasamsa shows destruction of things very clearly, I have gone through the YouTube videos and Ekadasamsa does show gains as well (the common understanding by most Indian Vedic Astrologers). Plus it is also mentioned in one of the classics.

P V R Narasimha Rao credited Ekadasamsa to Dr Raman to distinguish it from Rudramsa proposed by Sanjay Rath which is his guru. Or it could be for polite acknowledgement that Dr Raman brought the Ekadasams to the attention of the Vedic Astrologers community in his hey day.

Both D11 versions can be found in JHora.

One last thing about the bad divisional charts :

I have already noted that the trines in bad divisional charts like D30 lesser the evil of the said chart. But note : trines in bad divisional charts do prolong the affliction somewhat before the problem gets solved. And in some cases the trines do not help like the 5H in D30 shows diseases affecting the mind.

The 11th ALWAYS helps because it represents gains to the individual and not to the bad effects of the said divisional chart.

The other place where the effects of the bad divisional chart can be lessened is the 12th bhava of the said divisional chart. So like the 12th bhava of D30 shows Hospitals or the Place of Cure. 12th of a divisional chart represents simply ZERO as far as the effects of the said of any (not just the bad) divisional chart is concerned UNLESS it is a spiritual chart OR 12th bhava happens to be one of the karya houses.

Kendras in bad divisional charts ALWAYS heightens the bad effects.

Three more points are in order :

(1) The 12th bhava in a good divisional chart does not promise the fruits promised by that divisional chart AND ON TOP OF THAT, it gives obstacles like psychological hangups, unnecessary expenses etc. on the way in achieving one's goals for that divisional chart.

(2) Does the dusthans of a bad divisional chart like D6, D8, D30 etc. promises Vipareet Raja Yoga kind of effects because of two negatives? No, it does not. The reason is that the WHOLE divisional chart is representing something which the native has to overcome ie. a negative. But within it, the trines are good, dusthanas are bad and there are kendra and neutral houses too. So the BIG NEGATIVE is enclosing via brackets (think in terms of mathematics) all the pluses and negative, something like this :

- ( +, +, -, -, +, _, -, -, +, -, +, -.............)

Thus one negative outside the bracket is not just dealing with one gative of the dusthana only. There are other negatives and other positives within the brackets too. Remember in mathematics, the numerals within the brackets must be evaluated first, before we can apply the negative outside the bracket.

(3) Note also the only time when the primary karya house number can be a multipicator is the number 12. Because if it is not 12, when you divide by the 12 to get the remainder to find out the primary karya house, the remainder can never be a factor (multiplicator) for the number representing the divisional chart. Only for 12, where you get the remainder zero (0), then 12 will be a mltiplicator for the product of numbers leading to the number of the divisional chart.

For example :

D24 is divisible by 12 so the remainder after dividing by 12 is zero. Hence 12 is the primary karya house for D24 and also 12 x 12 = 24 meaning 12 is one of the factors of 24.

On the other hand D45 is NOT divisible by 12 so the remainder after dividing by 12 is 9. 9 is never a factor of 45.

So 12 has a special significance. It can operate as a primary karya house and also it can be a starting point for moving to the destination house (the product of the two factors - one factor is 12 and the other can be 9 for example leading to the product to 108).

Thus the 12th bhava can be overriding in its effects where the divisional chart concerned whose number is divisible by 12 like D12, D24, D60, D108, D144 etc.

Best Regards
Khoo
