D 07 - 34.jpg
Lagna lord is exalted in the 11th house. The 11th lord is exalted in the 3rd and aspects the 9th. The 9th and the 10th lord is with the exalted lagna lord. There is Parivarthana yoga between the 3rd and the 11th lord. This is an excellent Upachaya house yoga. The 10th lord is conjunct with the 10th in the 11th. This is another fantastic Upachaya house yoga.

There is an excellent Budha aditya yoga in the 10th. The 4th is in the 10th aspecting the 4th. The 2nd and the 5th lord Budha is in the 10th house aspecting the 4th. There is Dharma karmadipati yoga, Vipareeta raja yoga, There is Malavya yoga from Chandra lagna.

After all this, the person is a B com graduate, works as a sales man in a store earning 7 grand a month, Unmarried, and in serious debts. Since my focus is on the Yoga as propounded by Sage Garga, All factors being equal, this sloka is perfectly applicable to this horoscope. Note Shukra and Guru are exalted Vargothama. Guru is in Pushkara Navamsha.

Albert-Einstein.jpg
Albert Einstein.jpg
Take the case of Albert Einstein. He recieved the Nobel prize in the month of December in 1922. This prize was actually for the year 1921 when he was selected for the Nobel. But it was announced only in 1922. The dasha in 1921 was of the Moon, The AD was also of the Moon. The Moon is debilitated in the 6th house of Einstein's horoscope. More over, this Moon is in The Nakshatra of Budha who is further debilitated. How then, did Albert Einstein manage to a win a great award such as the Nobel prize in the dasha and Antar dasha of a debilitated Planet? There is no Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga to speak of. Chandra is not in a Kendra from the lagna. His dispositor Kuja is in the 8th house, but is exalted. Yet a debilitated planet helped Einstein gain the biggest achievement possible.

It is interesting to note that on the day the awards were announced - {9th Nov 1922} and handed over - {21st december 1922}, Einstein had just started his Kuja AD. Now the Main dasha of a debilitated lord and the AD of a exalted Lord were in operation. Once again, the sloka given By Garga comes alive and can the event can be justified using this dictum as propounded in the Deva Keralam.

I want to deviate from this topic and bring to the attention of the reader, 2 slokas from Phaladeepika in chapter 7 sloka 3 and chapter 9 sloka 20

Chapter 7 sloka 3 - Even a single planet, even if he be in depression, is capable of making the native a king's equal, provided he be with brilliant rays, Retrograde and occupies a good house i.e. other than the 6th, 8th or the 12th house. When there are two or three such planets at birth the native will become a king. When there are many such planets occupying auspicious signs and Amshdas, they will usher in a king blessed with all the insignias of royalty such as a crown, umbrella and waving cowries.

Chapter 9 sloka 20 - If a planet is Retrograde in its motion, it produces effects similar to those that arise from its occupying its exaltation sign, even if it is posited in an inimical or depression sign. The results produced by a planet occupying its own house are such as expected when it is placed in a Vargottamamsha.

These two slokas have been the bane of astrologers around India. Astrologers automatically assume that a planet when Retrograde in Debilitation gives exalted results. However they forget to read the underlined and highlighted part. Sloka 20 in the first place, should be taken with a sack of salt. There is no literal truth in it. Sloka 20 does not bother to elaborate on the condition, that a planet when debilitated, but Retrograde will make one a king or give results similar to a planet in exaltation only if - 1. He is possessed with brilliant rays and 2. He is placed in a good house.

Most importantly Phaladeepika forgets to add - A planet will give results akin to exaltation if he owns good houses. It's to be taken for granted that he be possessed with Brilliant rays and he be placed in a good house. Note - sloka 20 is to be read supra with sloka 3. Another point to remember, just like a planet in exaltation may not be strong, the same rule applies to a Retrograde planet too. When Phaladeepika talks of a debilitated Retrograde planet given results akin to exaltation, it's the strength and not the influence or character of the planet that is akin to exaltation. Even this is subject to the natural rules of progression. All other factors being equal, a planet does not become strong the day it get's Retrograde.

Another fatal error astrologers make is to assume that since a planet when Retrograde becomes exalted {conveniently forgetting the conditions as in point 1 and 2} a planet in exaltation, when Retrograde will give results equal to its debilitation. This is absolutely not true. I am yet to come across a sloka that says that an exalted planet when Retrograde gives results equal to its debilitation.

Look at Barak Obamas chart.

Barack Obama.jpg
Barack obama -.jpg
Note here, Guru is debilitated and Retrograde. Some astrologers apply the rule stated by Phaladeepika and argue that Guru has given effects akin to exaltation. Barack became president in the dasha of Guru, the 12th and the 3rd lord.

But before we apply this dictum it would be wise to check and see what the strength of Guru's Rays are.

Jupiter
Uchchcha Rashmi - 2.17
Cheshta Rashmi - 13.44
Subha Rashmi - 3.90
Asubha Rashmi - 4.10

If you examine Obama's chart you will find that the planet with the highest Cheshta Rashmi is Guru. The 2nd highest is another Retrograde planet Shani @ 12.87. One important point to note is that not all Retrograde planets will possess high Cheshta Rashmis. The planets gains Cheshta Rashmis progressively. Thus it is important to check if the planet who is Retrograde truly possesses a high Chesta value.
If I am not mistaken, the highest value for Cheshta Rashmis is 14. Obama scores a 12.87 which is extremely close to the high mark.

So the next time we declare that a Retrograde planet is strong, we must keep in mind to check the Chesta Rashmi of the planet before declaring its results. Most importantly, we must check the quality and strength of the Neecha Bhanga of the debilitated and Retrograde planet. Remember, in this case, Guru is strong, and will thus give the effects of the 12th and the 3rd lord powerfully. However, Guru's significations will also become powerful. This fact is evident in the case of Barak obama

Catherine Zeta Jones.jpg
Catherine Zeta jones - Chart.jpg
Note here, Shani is debilitated but Retrograde. Budha is exalted and Retrograde. Check their chesta Rashmis. Shani's Rashmis are at 11.77 and Budha at 12.83. Look how close a exalted and and debilitated planet is, as far as Rashmis go. This is a clear case to state that a exalted Retrograde planet does not become debilitated.

So it is clear that a debilitated Retrograde planet will give strong results provided, it has gained enough Chesta Rashmis. It is also clear that a exalted Retrograde planet actually gets stronger due to his enhanced Chesta Rashmis.

Would you say that indulging the debilitated planets would result in generating very bad karma in future births?
