Xabi Alonso - why is he so vsuccessful?

Xabi Alonso recently made news for taking Bayer Laverkusen to first even Bundesliga title. It is a remarkable feat to overcome Bayern Munich which were leagure winners for past 10 years. Laverkusen were at the bottom when Xabi took over. In just 18 months, he has managed to make this team a winning team.

Xabi also had a successful career. In 2004 he joined Liverpool and won the champions leagure the next year. He has had multiple successful years as a football player.

But it is very confusing why he has managed to get all this success.
