Has anybody experienced this?

Post by Sudha123 » 20 Jul 2019

Hello,
Few days back, while I was asleep, I could sense 4-5 people lift me. I could not open my eyes at all. I could literally feel being lifted.Infact I kept telling to myself that there are 4/5 people. With much difficulty I opened my eyes. I was very scared and had severe heart palpitations(it remained the same through out the next day) it was around 1.20am. I have read enough about sleep paralysis. I don't know if it was the same or was it a dream.
Has anybody experienced the same. Or does it have anything to do with energies. How will I know? Appreciate your inputs.

Thanks,
Sudha

Mostly we will be almost paralysed in dreams.We may not be able to act as per our will in dreams. We will be merely witnessing the events in dreams. The time is midnight. It is some sort of release of stress you may be undergoing.
Some people have dreams that become reality the next day. Bad things are revealed to them like this in dreams.Very ordinary people without any spiritual practices.
There will be a consistency in these types.

Thank you CL Ji

@Sudha123 - What you experienced in your sleep happened to almost everyday to me for 2 years in a row. More than once at it everyday. Very similar to your experience. I was scared as well. I was scared to death to close my eyes. If I close my eyes my body would go into paralysis, however I would still be aware of the surrounding. Happened in my sleep at night, happened when I was sitting on the couch and simply closed my eyes!

It doesn't happen to me anymore. I asked about it, researched a lot about it at that time. But after it stopped happening, I had convincing answers on why it happened. I do not know the medical/physical explanation for it. However sleep paralysis is a sign a spiritual progress. It’s just a rare moment when your awareness penetrates your sleep. You are just experiencing consciousness with no or little awareness of the body. It can happen suddenly in the middle of the night when you temporarily emerge from deep sleep and your body is not awake yet, but your waking consciousness is.

If it is a one time thing and doesn't happen anymore, it's alrite. But if it happens again, try observing it instead of feeling afraid and trying desperately to open your eyes.

Thanks left eye.
There is a lot of stress and i have been feeling disturbed for quite some time now. Nobody believes me if I tell them about this experience. I was literally scared. It was so real. How do I find out if it was a dream or was it real?

@myhead,

Thankyou for sharing your experience. Glad I am not alone in this experience. Hope I don't go crazy. I have been hearing voices and seeing 11.11 for almost a decade now. I convince myself saying that my mind is playing tricks..

The paralysis in sleep is something I am unaware. Request you to give links,if you are willing.
There is a certain type of dream when we get mantra initiation in dreams. The background lighting will be silver like or the light available on a full moon day.The physical condition of the body would not be a matter in such dreams.

Mandukya upanishad gives clear description of dreams. Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung referred this upanishad.
It describes 4 stages of a soul. A wiki reference explains in simple terms.

The first state is the waking state, in which we are aware of our daily world. "It is described as outward-knowing (bahish-prajnya), gross (sthula) and universal (vaishvanara)". This is the gross body.

The second state is the dreaming mind. "It is described as inward-knowing (antah-prajnya), subtle (pravivikta) and burning (taijasa)".This is the subtle body.

The third state is the state of deep sleep. In this state the underlying ground of concsiousness is undistracted, "the Lord of all (sarv'-eshvara), the knower of all (sarva-jnya), the inner controller (antar-yami), the source of all (yonih sarvasya), the origin and dissolution of created things (prabhav'-apyayau hi bhutanam)".This is the causal body.

The fourth factor is Turiya, pure consciousness. It is the background that underlies and transcends the three common states of consciousness. In this consciousness both absolute and relative, saguna brahman and Nirguna Brahman, are transcended. It is the true state of experience of the infinite (ananta) and non-different (advaita/abheda), free from the dualistic experience which results from the attempts to conceptualise ( vipalka) reality. It is the state in which ajativada, non-origination, is apprehended.

That is all about a brief intro. You may get lot of pdfs for this in net. With due regards to Swami Krishnanda, his write ups are not guiding properly. They need improvement. Any RK Mutt text will explain this nicely.

We are likely to have this 4th stage during japa or meditation.It is something unexplainable-you will have visions in milliseconds duration. Merging with the Supreme Brahman.

Thanks Lefteye,
I have already read that book from R. K Mutt. I have chanted enough mantras, slokas, switchwords, but never got any proper initiation.
I have stopped doing all that after my mother's death.

I have been reading a lot recently, yet I am unable to focus and there is always some uneasiness and unknown fear.

I wonder what is my soul's purpose... Everybody wants to get moksha but only some achieve. So let's see.

Regarding sleep paralysis, there are a lot of vedios and articles available. Generally your body becomes heavy and immovable, you cannot speak, you cannot open your eyes yet you would have a strong urge to move, shout, and open ur eyes.

@sudha123,Thank you.I will watch the videos and revert on this.

Meanwhile, I like to exchange few ideas about the paralysis we talk about.

Anaemic condition may be a cause if we go benumb in sleeping. In this case, will get up from sleep but will not be able to move parts of our body. If we get tiredness or some rashes together with this, it may be a disorder like anti immunity. An autoimmune disorder occurs when the body's immune system attacks and destroys healthy body tissue by mistake. This mainly happens due to lack of Vitamin D3. Most of us don't get required sunlight and that has been diagnosed as the reason for this.

Have experienced this myself. This subject is studied in depth in Christianity, the view is that demons are usually around when this phenomena occurs (lol) not sure if I believe it. When in this state....do not panic, but start japa, anything will do 'ohm nama shiva'. This will bring you back to life :-)

Sudha,

That is all I know about these experiences. I still do get weird dreams. Almost every night. Mostly some sage(s) that I have no idea who he is, in my dreams. Giving me some kind of instructions that I seldom remember after I wake up.

I believe your experiences are truly a sign of awareness expanding. I understand these are scary to the mind. But what is not scary to the mind? I would recommend you to think your experiences as positive re-reinforcements in your journey.

The only thing I can suggest for you is to read "Teachings of Ramana Maharishi in his own words" by Arthur Osborne if you haven't read it yet. The same book is conveniently and clearly written down by David Godman as "Be as you are". Much better book and easy to follow

You have written about the purpose of your soul. Ramana himself said “The only useful purpose of the present birth is to turn within and realize the Self.”

Good Luck

@myhead,
Thankyou for your suggestion. I haven't read that book, shall give it a try. If you are an astrologer please let me know the purpose of my soul. Some of my friends have told me that I will get into spirituality eventually.

@sudha123
I have gone through some pages. The reason stated is unsound sleep or REM. Melatonin deficiency is the reason. Melatonin-is included as one of the hormones in endocrinology recently. Pineal gland secretes this. This is related to meditation and pranayama. Medically,this sets the biological clock in our body and is available in syrup forms mainly recommended for sleep disorders.Consulting a physician is the best remedy.Or sleep disorder will be increasing. Depression and sleep control can't be controlled by meditation at entry level. It requires a wider experience.
