Excerpts from Jyotisha Phala Ratnamala

Post by lefteye » 22 Feb 2020

Jyothisha Phala Ratnamala was written by Sri Krishna Mishra around 5th/6th century. It is the key to understand Jaimini's Sutras as recommended by great scholars. The Jaimini scholars have different opinions from scholars of other systems explaining Jaimini. From a learner point of view these are astonishing and require close observation.( It gives the actual naisargika strength in the exact opposite of what all classics recommend. ) I happened to have a copy of Sri Chandrasekara's translation and give 2 points here for the kind notice of the learned members of this forum for their valuable insights:

When the master of Lagna is in the Lagna, when two Grahas occupy the Lagna, or even when one or two Grahas in exaltation anywhere in the horoscope (even in the 12th house), then the Lagna receives power from this configuration.

Chandresheheraa's Comments: Indication of Grahas in exaltation in any bhava other than the Lagna may also mean their stay in the 12th bhava as “paratra”, which also means continuation. The 12th bhava, rises after the Lagna and therefore can be considered as a continuation of the Lagna, although some may take the second (house) as a continuation.

While we are of the option to treat 12th house as the one preceding lagna-the rising sign at time of birth, the translation gives an additional option of treating 12th house as the sign that follows lagna.Which will be the actual direction as per geo centric theory? (We have lagna moving in clockwise in charts with progress of time)

2. The next one is giving a direction to assess the strength of the planets from vargas.

"The power of Chandra and Shani is visible from Trimshamsha (D-30), Braziers from Shodashamsha (D-16), Buddhi from Shashtamsa (D-6), Guru from Ashtamsha (D-8), the power of Shukra is determined by his strength in Dashamsa (D- 10), the strength of the Ravi is estimated by Dvadashamsa (D-12)."

(Both slokas are from 3rd chapter)
