Isht Devta Computation as Per Parashara, Jaimini, and Relevance

Post by ketochamp » 30 Aug 2018

What is the right way to compute Isht Devta? 5th house(karma) from lagna sounds okay but one could wonder why not 9th lord(the true house of dharma). Besides, this sounds too basic in that AK in D-9 sounds more complex and unique.

Atmakaraka theory sounds plausible but what confuses me is whether we have to look at the condition of 12th sign from Karakamsha in the Rashi Chart(karakamsa chart) or in the Navamsa Chart(swamsa chart). Or in other words 12th from Karakamsa sign in the D-9 chart, or 12th sign from Karakamsa Lagna(which is Rashi Chart rotated in a way that karakamsa sign is 1st house = Karakamsa Chart).

Now comes the main question. Is an Isht Devta specific only to gaining spiritual progress? What about health, wealth, career. I am not asking this with a materialistic angle, but more a pragmatic one in that why can't we focus on spiritual progress while making sure we don't have to suffer while we're here.

In that case could we use the position of Amatyakaraka in D-9, and using that as Isht for iccha poorti particularly 2nd, 5th, 9th, 11th from this position?

Alternatively, could we use 2nd, 5th, 9th, 11th from Atmakaraka's Karakamsa sign to see financial, academic, professional progress of an individual?

WOW! these are good questions, but quickly Ishta Devata is mainly seen for Moksha/Mukti. There 9th from AK for Dharma Devata and others.

Indeed, and what's your take on identifying a deity for material gains and comforts?

Would worshipping the ishta of Atmakaraka and Amatyakaraka planet be the one or should it be Putra Karaka who by axis also controls the 11th bhava? Then take the placement of Putra Karaka in D-9 and use this sign as a Putrakarakalagna (similar to how we identify Karakamsa) and use this sign as a lagna and look at placements in relative to Putrakarakalagna where this lagna specifies the net wealth

2nd from this sign = bhava of accumlation of this wealth
3rd from this sign = division of this wealth
4th = what we will be buying from this wealth i.e. tangible wealth
5th = intellectual and creative wealth
6th = wealth of health
7th = spouse's wealth
8th = loss of wealth or inheritance
9th = charity, alms, donations
10th = how one will work for the wealth
11th = how wealth will just happen to come to you
12th = how you will depart from this wealth (could be loss, renunciation, charity, death, or losing the desire to spend)

Alternatively, we can use Amatyakaraka sign in D-9 and perform the same exercise because Amt Karaka is the significator of realization of desires

late reply, Ishta Devata is mainly freedom and mukti, but if the other gains come along thats fine, its your favorite from of god, if it comes, it comes. Other ways of seeing worship of a form of the supreme comes from
6th from AmK in navamsa. For material gain and comforts, we could use mainly 5th lord in rashi or 9th lord in rashi, though this may be too crude and simple, compared to AK, AmK, or Dharmadevatta in navamasa.

Since Jaimini has various translators and scholars at hand whom have translated, and used diff methods, upapada being a controversial issue, its best to look at all the schools scholars and make a rough test with a lot
of charts to see what works.

There is a methond by one scholar where he takes AK in D-20 and does the 12th from AK there to see Ishta Devata.
