Nakshatra for day

Post by gansub » 09 Mar 2019

Looking at panchangs - At what point in the night is the moon in a particular nakshatra considered to be the "Nakshatra for the day" ? Is it before sunrise ? But then the period of sun rise varies from location to location. So is it adjusted for that ? So if the moon transits into another nakshatra at say 5.45 am is the nakshatra for the day considered to be the new nakshatra or the old one ?

As an example - let us say - moon is in Magha Nakshatra at 5 am tomorrow morning. At 5.30 am it changes into Purva Phalguni. So is the nakshatra for the day - Magha or is it Purva Phalguni ?

Moon transits from each rasi in 2.5 days and within it transits from each nakshatra to next under it. the panchangs usually take early morning as its the beginning of the day

Hi,

I believe the nakshatra that the Moon is in at the time of Sun-rise is considered the nakshatra of the day.
