satyacharya (Amshayu ) method

Dear learners,

iam trying to learns styacharya ( amshayu) method for calculating longevity , however i got stuck in middle.

Iam not able to convert planet degrees into years and months and days....like

ex: sun 9 degrees 40 minutes 20 secs

(9*30*60)+( 40*60)+20 ------divided by 200 after that i didnt understand how to convert the result into years and months and days...

Can any one please explain the process ...thanks a lot

hello nagaraj,

you must take into account of the rasi plus the deg of the planet.

Suppose , sun is in virgo 4 deg 47 min.. then sun has crossed leo, which is 150 deg and placed
at 4 deg 47 min.

5 rasis+ 4 deg 47 min / 200 gives number of years for sun.
150 deg + 4 deg 47 min /200 = 154 deg 47 min / 200 = ( 154 x 60 + 47 )/200 = 46 years 4 months 18 days

154 * 64 = 9240
9240+47= 9287
9287/200 =46.437

i didnt understand how do we need to arrive at 4 months and 18 days...

like how should we convert this . 437 ? Request you to please explain in simple steps.

what you wrote in the first line should be the following.

154 x 60 ( not 154 x 64 ) = 9240 min

9240 min plus 47 min = 9287 min.( This means Sun is placed at 9287 th minute from begining of Aries )

This 9287 should be divided by 200. That will give you the number of years. You will not get a whole
number.

9287 / 200 = 46.435. years.

Now take the fraction 0.435 . This fractional part of the year can be converted into days by assuming
a year to consist 365 days. ( approx )

0.435 x 365 = 158.775 days

which is equal to 5 months and 9 days ( approximately ) ( earlier calculation 4 months was wrong )
