108 Navamsa and 108 Names of Vishnu

Post by KMD » 05 May 2021

Hi,

Every navamsa starting from the 1st navamsa of Aries to the 9th navamsa of Pisces is linked to one of the 108 names of Lord Vishnu (Vishnu Ashtottara Shata Nama).

Check out which navamsa the ascendant falls in. The mantra associated with that particular Name of Vishnu becomes the mantra for the native and he may chant it at least 108 times daily for general welfare.

Few examples:-

The 1st navamsa of Aries is called Vishnavamsa and the associated mantra is Om Vishnave Namah. The person whose ascendant is between 0deg to 3deg20min may chant this mantra 108 times daily for general welfare.

The 102nd navamsa (3rd navamsa of Pisces which lies between 336deg 40min to 340deg) is called Damodaramsa and the associated mantra is Om Damodaraya Namah. The person whose ascendant lies here may chant this mantra 108 times daily for general welfare.

The 108th navamsa (9th navamsa of Pisces which lies between 356deg 40min to 360deg) is called Mahavishnavamsa and the associated mantra is Om Mahavishnave Namah. The person whose ascendant lies here may chant this mantra 108 times daily for general welfare.

The beauty of this simple remedial measure is that even if the navamsa of the ascendant is identified wrongly and the wrong mantra is picked, there's no harm done, only blessings come. The reason is that Lord Vishnu is The Infinitely Compassionate One.

Hi,

Continuing on the above topic let's consider the dasha of Sun. Count the number of navamsa divisions from the ascendant to Sun.

For example, let's say that the Sun is in the 70th division when counted from ascendant which is in Damodaramsa (102nd navamsa).

The favorable results indicated for such a position of Sun are marital happiness, pleasures derived from garlands, joyful interaction with relatives and experience of power.

The unfavorable results indicated for this position of Sun are injuries due to weapons, trouble from enemies, attach by animals, fear of imprisonment, weakness due to fever.

Therefore, during Sun dasha, this native may worship the Sun God to get marital happiness etc. and also to seek protection from weapons, instruments, machines, tools, animals, enemies and fever.

The specific mantra to propitiate Sun God is the 70th Name in Surya-Ashtottara-Shata-Nama, which is Om Jayine Namah. This needs to be chanted during Sun dasha at least 108 times daily.

Hi,

Continuation... ....

To study antar-dasha, we count navamsa divisions from dasha lord to antardasha lord.

In the above example, if Saturn is 34 divisions from Sun, then for such a position of Saturn from Sun, the results of Sun-Saturn are that the native may experience sickness and he may also be worried about his children. As the antar-dasha progresses, he may also get into some quarrels. Overall, it's an unfavorable time.

To mitigate the bad effect, he needs to chant the mantra corrosponding to the 34th name of Lord Shani in His ashtottara-shata namavali. The mantra is Om Virodha-aadhaara-bhuumaye Namah. He may chant this at least 108 times daily throughout Saturn antar-dasha.

Hi,

After identification of remedial mantras, let's now look at the prediction part of this technique.

To confirm whether the navamsa of the ascendant is correct or requires rectification, you may refer to Chapter 51 of the classic text book, Saravali which was written by Kalayana Varma of the 10th century AD. Herein is described the characteristics of people born with ascendant in each of the 108 navamsas.

For example, a person born in Damodaramsa (102nd navamsa or 6deg40min to 10deg0min of Pisces) is fair in complexion, crafty, good looking, courteous, learned, righteous, modest and charming.

In the next post (after this post is approved), I shall write about how dasha predictions are made using this technique - which is called 108 nadi technique).

Hi,

In this method, the dasha results are to be predicted in the following way.

If the ascendant is Pisces and Sun is in the 9th navamsa of Libra, it means that Sun is in Libra in the main rasi chart and Gemini in navamsa chart.

The prediction consists of two considerations:
1) Sun in Libra in 8th sign from Ascendant in Pisces (in main rasi chart). The results indicated for this position of Sun are injuries due to weapons, trouble from enemies, attach by animals, fear of imprisonment, weakness due to fever.

2) Rasi tulya navamsa method. That is, Sun in Gemini (in navamsa chart) in the 4th from ascendant in Pisces (in main rasi chart). The results indicated for such a position of Sun are marital happiness, pleasures derived from garlands, joyful interaction with relatives and experience of power.

Again, there are two ways a, b given below of interpretation. One needs to try out on many charts to see whether one works more often than the other.
a) The first prediction from rasi chart is overall and observable. The second prediction (rasi tulya navamsa) is subtle and woks i the background.
b) The first prediction from rasi chart occurs throughout the dasha. But as the dasha progresses, the second prediction (rasi tulya navamsa) gradually unfolds.

In the next post, I shall write about how antar-dasha predictions are made.

Hi,

In this method, the antar-dasha results are to be predicted in the following way.

Continuing with the example in previous posts, if the ascendant is Pisces and Sun is in the 9th navamsa of Libra, it means that Sun has progressed by 9 signs from Libra (in main chart) to Gemini (in navamsa chart). It's again rasi tulya navamsa method counted from dasha lord to antar-dasha lord. The Sun-Sun antar-dasha results predicted for such a progression are the person may have a feeling of distress, anger and this may be because of the need to go from one place to another without anything accomplished.

As mentioned in my second post in this thread, the mantra to propitiate Sun God throughout Sun dasha is the 70th Name in Surya-Ashtottara-Shata-Nama, which is Om Jayine Namah (ॐ जयिने नमः). The mantra to be chanted 108 times daily throughout Sun antar-dasha is the first mantra in the Surya-Ashtottara-Shata-Nama which is Om Arunaya Namah (ॐ अरुणाय नमः).

Now, let's take another example of Sun-Saturn antardasha. Let's say that Saturn is in the 6th navamsa of Aquarius which is the 34th navamsa counted from Sun in 9th navamsa of Libra. Saturn is in the 5th from Sun in the main rasi chart. The predictions are that the native may experience sickness and he may also be worried about his children. Appling rasi tulya navamsa method, Sun is in Pisces in navamsa which is 6th from Sun in Libra in rasi chart. The prediction is that the person might have some bitter disagreement over fundamental issues. The specific mantra for Sun-Saturn has already been discussed in the 3rd post in this thread.

Next in this series is regarding how to use transits to predict with this method.

Hi,

For predictions based on transit using this method, consider the following example.

At present, transit Saturn is in the 6th navamsa of Capricorn. This puts Saturn in Gemini in Navamsa chart.

For a person with Pisces ascendant, Saturn is in transit in the 11th in main chart and in the 4th amsa as per rasi tulya navamsa method. Both are favorable positions.

To identify the mantra for this position, count the number of navamsa from that of natal ascendant to transit Saturn. It is the 94th navamsa. Therefore the 94th mantra in Shani ashtottara shata namavali is selected. It is Om Niramayaya Namah. This person may chant this mantra 108 times daily as long as Saturn transits 6th navamsa of Capricorn.
