Below are a few guidelines:
[A] Transit of dasha lord:
1. The transit of dasha lord through his sign of exaltation, own sign or friend's sign promotes the prosperity of the houses it represents in the natal chart provided the dasha lord is endowed with strength in the natal chart as well.
2. If the dasha lord is weak, combust, placed in enemy's sign or debilitated in the natal chart, then, it causes troubles in the house that it transits.
[B] Transit of antar-dasha lord:
1. If the planet whose antar-dasha is in progress transits through its enemy's sign, debilitation sign or becomes combust, then there could be much misery.
2. During transit if the antar-dasha lord passes through its own sign, exaltation sign or become retrograde, the effects will be good.
[C] Transit of Moon:
1. When the Moon transits over the the exaltation or friend's sign of the lord of the dasha, or the 3rd, 6th, 10th, 11th, 1st, 5th, 9th or the 7th house from the lord of the dasha's natal position, the effects will be happy.
2. If the Moon transits over the debilitation or enemy's sign of the lord of the dasha, or the 8th, 12th from the lord of the dasha's natal position, the effects could be far from happy.
[D] Transit of Sun and Jupiter:
1. During an auspicious antar-dasha, the good effect may be manifested when the Sun or Jupiter transits the planet's exaltation sign.
2. During an inauspicious antar-dasha, the bad effects may be felt when the Sun transits over the antardasha lord's debilitation or enemy's sign.

Yes, the transits of dasha and antar-dasha lords are checked. In addition, the transits of Moon, Su and Jupiter are also seen.
